Well, we already know that meeting women at the gym can work -- otherwise OP's story would never have happened. Bars are good if you're not looking for wife material. If OP has a dog, all he has to do is start going to dog parks. If he's religious, all he needs to do is start going to church every week. More importantly, though -- how much time and energy are you wasting, worrying about that sort of thing? How many times have you thought yourself into a depression because you think talking to women is a big scary deal for some reason?
Worry less. Forget about meeting women. Focus on yourself. Eat right, get lots of sleep, be social, make some friends, apply yourself at work (no matter what sort of job you have -- it's yours, so take pride in it), get a productive hobby, pick a subject and study it, read a damn book once in a while -- improve yourself and never stop.
