I lived in Chengdu, Sichuan. It's an inland city of some 20,000,000 people. I loved it for it was not nearly as westernized/culturally impacted as Shanghai or Beijing while still being a huge city with amazing food and a very generally lackadaisical way of life.
I mostly met people off of various tinder-like apps (TanTan, Momo, Wechat's People Nearby function). I learned Chinese through copy pasting what most non-English speaking people would send to me and eventually got the hang of it.

people were often very eager to talk, and the sheer volume of people (for reference there are more Sichuanese people than there are Germans) makes it so it's pretty hard to run out of new users on those apps.

I would typically be fairly upfront about being in it for the p, which some people appreciated and reciprocated and others were put off by as western promiscuity. many chinese women seem to fetishize white men though, which while novel and fun at first, can get tiresome.
