I never watched how people on tv dress i just chose things i find cool. Also i get a lot of clothes from my father and i also wear them. You know this for yourself when maybe you're walking through a business area and around suits, you feel out of place or like you're being judged. You place yourself underneath them automatically.

>make pants a color that compliments your top (must not match unless all black/all white)
>jacket that compliments the set so far

There's one "golden path" to developing good tastes, and it's simply to be always paying attention and categorizing fashion that you see. When you see someone dressed well, try to take not of what you like about their outfit. You'll get better at this over time and it's really easy to do every day since all you have to do is think and MAYBE take notes in your phone. Try to look at intentional outfits. Especially focus on people who have your body type, skin tone, hair color, preferred aesthetic.
If you don't live in a major metropolitan area this can be a little more difficult, but the interne is a great tool. Just browse browse browse.
