As near as I can tell she waits until she hears footsteps outside of whatever room she's in and then wraps a chord around her neck and pretends to hang herself as the person walks into the room. That was how her mother found her and "saved" her from her suicide attempt the first time around. Then later, she attempted suicide the same way after being sent to rehab.
