So this is Something I have tought about a few times. Imagine some big company offered to put your brain in a robot body. Not a humanoid robot but some huge, heavily armored, heavily armed machine of war like pic related. Would you accept?
For example if you accept, your new body would be the property of the company, and essentially your job would be to do stuff like help the police catch criminals, do security at certain events, escort famous people, etc. The bad thing is that you're no longer human and you can't interact with the outside world all that well. The good news would be that when you're not ''controlling'' the robot, you would have some sort of virtual playground where you could chill during your off time.
You could completely customize your space (make it look like a garden, a beach, a forest, etc.) and Inside it you would have complete internet acces, Watch television and play video games (more on that later) and even have your own virtual waifu if you wish.
So basically you would recieve a weekly salary that about the same as a police officer that could then be used to buy stuff for your virtual space. You would be free to do whatever with your money like buy subscription to anime streaming sites, buy steam games whatever.
Of course if the company needs you while you're lounging they could automatically ddeactivate your ''rest mode'' and force you into ''control mode'' (essentially you see the world through a HUD and you control your robot body like your you're doing with your own right now.
Also you have speakers that allow you to use a voice to communicate with others, but keep in mind that you could only see your firends and family through your HUD. As a bonus you have a screen that you can use to show other people things (like internet videos) and by pluggin a controler into your body you can play video games with other people.
So? would you accept? to be honest I would seriously think about it Let's just imagine that alle the ''virtual space'' stuff is Something so that the person Inside the robot dosen't become insane even if it's not really realistic.

Fuck no. The lack of natural sensory stimulus would make it not all that dissimilar to feeling like your paralyzed or something. Obviously there would have to be some form of visual and auditory processing but it wouldn't be like natural sight and hearing. Without being able to feel, touch, smell, and sense movement your experiances would be incredibly surreal and detached. Depersonalization on steroids. There's no circumstances where having an internal simulation would help you maintain sanity, having somewherr to retreat to would only further disconnect you from reality and deeper into madness and isolation.
How good are they at tricking my brain into thinking my virtual space is real and matching it with real sensations?

Let's imagine for the sake of the thread that being in your virtual space feels like you feel now. If you have sex with a virtual waifu, it will feel like sex in real life, and you can feel Wind, sun, etc. Also you could materialize food in your virtual spae and eat it (even if you don't need to eat) and it would use the appropriate parts of your brain to make you ''taste'' it. However, it would be a ''standard'' taste for that kind of food/drink because obviously the system could not know all the flavor variations in the world.

So that "virtual playground" would be completely real to me while I'm in there, right? Now... If we're gonna go all sci-fi here, I'm assuming the virtual world would be a part of its own internet, where the interaction isn't limited to keyboard and screen.
If that is the case, then fuck yes.

essentially, imagine that it's kind of like the matrix except limited in size (not like a city, but like a very large piece of land. You could materialize a house, a masion, a castle, everything you want. A screen and a keyboard would appear if you want to use a computer (for exemple to go on the internet) a controller and a sreen if you want to play console games, etc. It would be like having your own large estate with unlimited internet, where you could still communicate on real life website like Jow Forums and use your money to buy dematerialized game to play during your free time.
Then it's a no-go. I'd hoped for something like having consciousness transferred into virtual world being a normal thing where, aside from the now-archaic internet, exists another, essentially a 3D, completely virtual internet. Kinda like something in Psycho Pass.
