Do you bench below parallel? Try to use as much ROM as possible (i.e. narrow grip), possibly with tucked elbows? Do TNG for your main sets?

Nope and nope, I only tuck as much as is necessary, even when using a closer grip

I used to pause my first rep and do TNG for the rest but imo pausing every rep is better
Always touch chest (if I'm not going to do that, I'm using a board or the safeties to keep my ROM consistent). Typically I do a lot of moderate-grip work without an arch outside of meet prep but my shoulders are a mess so that's a necessary concession to training what I suck at (the bottom end) without jacking myself up by taking a wide grip. Meet prep it's what I'll do in competition - moderate grip, hard arch.
Do you use a grip that makes you stop at parallel, or medium grip and stop halfway through (board or in the air)?
I always feel bad for having like 45º of ROM.
Max grip with a big arch, you should always touch chest, regardless of how much you are or aren't arching

Slower doesn't mean worse, in the past couple years, having it be more active hasn't always been the best in terms of post/thread quality
There's a difference between deliberately using a variant of the lift in supplemental work to help what you suck at versus fucking up your form on the competition lift.
It is slow and quality is worse as well

I can't get past 185x5 on bench these past couple weeks. I'm 172lb and eat 3.5k kcal/day. Do you guys do any assistance work for bench to help break plateaus? Thanks

If not do dumbbell curls or similar one day and dumbbell hammer curls or similar the next for similar volume to the dumbbell benching.
Curls are good for you elbows.

in ipf classic world's the average bench contribution is closer to 25% of total. squat 35% and dead 40%.
in the fucking joke that is "equipped" "powerlifting" the bench is even more, because the dead gets only about 5% boost while the squat and bench get from 20% to 40%, depending. those numbers are based on lifters who competed in both categories in the ipf and are singleply; multiply numbers would be even higher.

I got a BS in biology and a BA in chemistry expecting to go to veterinary school, but after shadowing a vet at a vet clinic, im seriously reconsidering it. I thought about going back to school for a degree in chemical engineering, because I've already taken all the chemistry and all but 1 of the math classes necessary (gen chem, organic, biochem, quant, calc 1, calc 2, diff eq), all i would need to do is take the engineering classes.

Because squatting is still something humans have done for thousands of years, but it was done as a sitting replacement, progressive overload works for all sorts of muscles, and people can always learn how to do movements properly, it just usually doesn't come naturally to them.

You do lifts that are different enough from your usual lifts you've been doing, ones you don't usually do, and you can do some more unconventional lifts. You want the volume and intensity to be as low as possible without actually causing you to reach a detrained state.
Say something like front squat x8 @6, x8 @7, x8 @8, repeat once

Part of it is to find out the @8, part of it is also to get reps in at a low intensity so you can allow some fatigue to bleed off. Yes, generally you want the minimum amount of volume possible without allowing yourself to detrain.

Wide was kinda comfy but I couldn't achieve many reps
Medium was impossible barely got the first rep
Close grip was strongest, I could do 3x as many reps as I could wide
