I hope if you're doing them with a band you do them the way Bret does them or you're not getting what you think you're getting. You have to pull the band apart as you pull it towards your face or it will be a menial rear delt exercise and not get much lateral delt activated almonds.
This is specifically why I bought bands. They're pretty affordable and have other uses too besides face pulls.

Can you provide a source for this claim? FYI thoracic rounding to increase weight is a known technique in powerlifting circles and valid in context and not bad advice necessarily. As well the spine can potentially adapt to this position.

They work extremely well for this through weighted stretch which again is a technique previously known that he did not invent.

First of all, 99 percent of gym goers are not power lifters and secondly Alex isn't either. He's said very clearly in at least one video that he's not a power lifter and he's not a competitive lifter and he isn't interested in it.

1) Thoracic round =/= Lumbar rounding and as such isn't inherently unsafe or a concern for the spine
2) Increasing weight obviously has the benefit of greater strength and muscle adaptations to occur
If you're at a plateau you may need thoracic rounding or it may simply come naturally to your anthropometry. You shouldn't disregard wholesale the concept of thoracic rounding. And once again, I've seen no source of this specific claim made by him so I can't really discern a made up claim.

yeah it's been shown that lumbar rounding isn't terrible either but rather it's when your spine goes from one position to another UNDER LOAD eg rounds under load while not starting from a rounded position that fucks your shit up. a rounded lumbar is suboptimal from a structural integrity standpoint but the spine can adapt to this. the spine cannot adapt to repeated flexion under load.

been liftan for 18 months but only recently started to try and bring my deadlift up, still getting slow linear gains (maxing out every week adding 1/2 or 1 kg on a triple)
still stronger than 99% of Jow Forums, but the point is, it feels absolutely unnatural to me to try and lock or extend my back. I honestly think it'll find its safest and strongest position. never had any pain or even strain.
