Assuming you are actually a girl (I'm in doubt) no one goes to the gym at 2am to socialize, not even normies. You want to interact with them, go talk to them. assume some of the social risk and make the first step. OTOH, leave people alone at the gym, what a sick place to hit on people.

The prospect of asking a girl out who goes to the gym and most likely getting rejected, then having to awkwardly be around that person is not appealing.

There's no way a guy can tell you're going to be receptive to him asking you out and there are consequences for getting rejected. Plus, he'd have to interrupt his workout and your workout and make awkward small talk in a place that's not really designed to be a hangout spot.
