>guy rapes and kills two people
>is executed for his crime
>now three people are dead and the murderer has evaded decades in the hell on earth that is prison because vengeance
Someone please explain to me why the death penalty is still a thing?

Either the murderer spends eternity in Hell after spending decades suffering in prison, or the murderer spends eternity in Hell immediately, without all the suffering.
Also, nobody is 100% sure Hell even exists in the first place.
Either way, you can't use religion as justification here.
>Not sure if I wanna agree with the vengeance niggers who wanna see him die quick and painfully, or the ones who wanna see him go slow and painlessly.
Capital punishment is quick and painless unless something goes wrong, which it rarely does. And if it does go wrong, the person typically survives (with permanent defects) and they're not allowed to attempt the execution again. In the US, it's considered inhumane to put someone to death painfully.
You know what's not quick and painless? Being raped over the course of decades and finally being shivved to death in a jail cell.
>Believes in the prison rape meme
If you're big-time enough to be on death row, they won't allow you in a shower with another man
Hell they'd assume you would be the one raping
Fine. Solitary confinement is even worse. It's psychological torture.
Still, there's no reason to kill him. You're only helping him evade punishment.
Deterrent and societal grounding factors.
Giving a serial killer the same punishment as somebody like Bernie Madoff hardly seems equitable, does it? The fear of imminent instant death is a far worse punishment for many people than being allowed to grow to old age in prison. If it wasn't, you'd see many more such individuals commit suicide in prison or not appeal their death sentence. Additionally, many times the family of the victims appreciates the closure and finality that is offered by their meeting the same end as their loved one. Further, in rare instances like Ted Bundy escaping from prison, it completely takes their ability to ever repeat their actions outside off the table.
I'm of the opinion that capital punishment should be used very sparingly, but should never be taken off of the table. Reserved strictly for the worst offenders.
He's not worth caring for in jail (aka not worth taxpayer's money.), and we can't release him into society cause he'll do more bad shit.
The death penalty is a pretty convenient solution.
In most cases it's actually more expensive to execute someone than to give them life in prison.
If this person is deemed such a threat by the public, he should be placed in a maximum security prison.
Ted Bundy was not.
women like criminals maybe that plays a factor
You're arguing the individual case rather than the overarching point. If you insist on being a stickler, it's not as though escapes from maximum security prisons are unprecedented. nytimes.com
Cost about $32,000 a year to tax payers per person in jail. $32,000 x 40 years is a lot to waste on a rapist when you could just kill them off.
You can't un-execute someone who was wrongly found guilty.
You can't unrape the raped. You'll know.
True but you can take them out of the environment where they're in danger and apologize to them in the process.
Dead people, however, remain dead.
Sure, but:
A) genuine wrongful convictions are rare
B) death sentences are even rarer
That's a convincing argument to use the death sentence sparingly, perhaps not at all when there's even the remotest doubt present. When it comes to cases where there is no doubt, however, (most serial killers or people who are proud of their crimes, for example), it's not a good argument for completely eliminating it. Judges don't take the death sentence lightly, nor does the legal system as a whole. To me, that's not a great singular argument for eliminating it altogether. It's a good argument for judges to exercise even more discretion in handing down such a sentence, however.
Rape victims never recover. I'm sure you'll know

death row inmates cost a lot too you know. maybe even more than most prison inmates
>t. snowflake
It's easy as fuck to recover from rape. It's only a big deal if you make it a big deal.
I bet You'd know.
Yeah I got raped once and it was fine. Two therapy sessions later and it basically never even happened. People blow rape way out of proportion.
You do know that they don't just immediately execute the defendant right then and there as soon as the judge bangs the gavel, right?
Like, they don't just haul the guy away to be slaughtered right away. There's repeals and more court dates and death row...it's not that cheap at all.
>repeals
appeals*
If the criminal and victim didn't exist prior to the crime, can you truly claim that you give a shit about either or the after?
Yea. Give them like 5 years or so to prove they are innocent then kill them if still guilty
