Being a nerd used to mean being smart and receiving rejection and isolation for being such a thing. Bering a nerd was never cool, it was never an organized subculture. It was something other people labeled you like the mark of death so that they could bully you. Being a nerd meant being the first guy on your block with a computer, chess club, never getting laid, and being socially isolated from your peers. And it meant getting all of that and using various pop cultural things like video games and dungeons and dragons as a form of escapism with your nerd bros to forget about your shit life.
The modern nerd is a normie, a consumerist, a liberal retard spending their paychecks on funkpop and brainwashing their children into watching the same stupid shit they liked when they were a kid, creating a family of consumers.
The modern nerd is a soulless Nietzschean last man, who lives for nothing greater than himself
Because there is less focus on the hobby and more focus on sex which brings people that dont really care about the hobby to the hobby hoping to get laid
I'd like to highlight this post as it closely matches my thoughts on the subject. I have no interest or empathy for people who are interested in some niche hobby but have never been bullied for their fanatical obsession with it.
Because it isnt actually a hobby for them. Its just another way for them to attention whore and promote themselves and whatever dumb shit theyre doing. Women in any hobby will result in the death of that hobby. Roasties fuck off. Go get Chads attention somewhere else like a football game or some shit.
Probably because they're seldom actually into the hobby. Amazingly, people get annoyed when others use them. Crazy, I know.
A lot of people are incredibly insecure so when more people start to become invested in something that they enjoy, it is no longer something that is unique or special to them. They feel like they are being stripped of a defining character trait, which is honestly pretty pathetic.
Nope. People just want to have fun and enjoy their hobby in peace with other people who genuinely enjoy the hobby too. It is annoying when a bunch of annoying faggots usurp and destroy the hobby.
See:
So its impossible for beautiful people to genuinely enjoy a hobby that geeks/nerds share?
Also even if they are just doing it for attention, which I am not saying they are, so what?
You can still enjoy the hobby by yourself or among your friends who do genuinely enjoy it.
I dont see what it takes away from you.
Yep. They just want to use it as a vehicle to flirt with and hookup with other posers, they can just go to a bar and do that, they can leave people hobbies alone.
Ok. You are just delusional then.
Because they take over and ruin the hobby, they start dictating the direction the hobby goes in and fucking ruin it.
Are literature and philosophy the last strongholds of the normalfag invasion? From what I recall normalfags hate reading on any sort of level so it's a good place for us to hide.
Bikini models dressed up as boba fett were never nerds
Holy shit user, couldn't have said it better myself. I definitely miss that sort of secret grit that accompanied embracing the nerd way, you knew you were pretty much already dead in a way, but still you chose not to give in and fall. Now every other fratbro goes around uploading his trickshot in fortnite (a game in a niche made specifically for this kind of people) to his Instagram story. Gone are the days of the outcast.
If they had such strong opinions on the hobby they would change the direction then that would indicate to me that they do genuinely care about it.
Sorry but people arent always going to cater to you every time.
They do not care about the hobby as it was, no. Imagine that for whatever reason your rich friend/cousin/acquaintance moves in with you and starts redecorating your house without permission in a way that you absolutely despise, and also starts inviting more people that you aren't acquainted with nor you like, again without your permission. Would he be right to do that just because he has more money?
Its not your house though.
You dont own shit.
No but the point is not that you look into the fucking technicalities or I won't be able to explain you shit because you obviously don't understand the original point in the first place. Now, at this point it's obvious this shit hasn't happened to you or else we wouldn't be arguing right now (unless you are the biggest fucking cuck on planet Earth). Hell you're probably the normalfag that ruins communities in the first place.
>you obviously don't understand
He's trying rile you up.
I know but I must take every bait and take it serious and actually try and argue with them on the off chance they're serious about their bullshit. I also love to get mad.
"When I buy dungeons and dragons, it is because I am an innocent victim seeking escape from a never-ending hell of unwarranted rejection and ridicule. When you buy dungeons and dragons however, it is because you are a brainless consumer, the very portrait of everything wrong with humanity. Truly, you are the cancer of the modern era."
Goddamnit can't anyone just play dungeons and dragons BECAUSE THEY FUCKING LIKE DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS?
you know what i see in this ...girl after all i read etc about her [thats is barely anything] is that she is a simple whore.
I mean it probably [well definitely] feels good to show off in a setting where you are one of the best looking around, however it just shows how lame she is..
a lame fake boob bimbo
I just dont see anyone ruining communities and you havent really given me anything to work with. Your analogy was flawed. It wasnt about technicalities. You made it sound as if the hobby was yours alone. Which isnt true. Anyone can pick up a hobby and enjoy it.
Essentially you are just delusional and insecure. Gonna go fap now. Bye.
altho to be fair, i wanted to add there are obviously pretty girls on anime/comic/whatever cons beside idiot whores like she is, but likely as much fat girls too and stuff like that so she appears better by default, which is easy, she is just a narcissistic bitch getting off on nerds orgasmic and gazing on her.
i mean she actually likes the hobby and also likes attention?? okay, but thats what im saying, i would bet its like 85% whoring 15% actual hobby. Its okay to be a whore, just dont act like you are not one.
Because they aren't beautiful and more importantly they don't have girlfriends.
Half of "nerd culture" is about being rejected, which the normies are not.
Wish you were right but those people don't like dungeons and dragons in the first place. The ones that do like it don't go around parading semi naked in a shitty "cosplay" that consists only of a bikini and the general color palette of the character.
The ones that buy d&d just because they like it aren't the beautiful fuckers that could very well be partying or doing whatever normalfag shit they do elsewhere with like minded normalfags and enjoying the attention of said normalfags.
If you don't see anyone ruining communities you're part of the problem yourself. And of course anybody can pick whatever hobby they wish, so long as wherever they go they do as they see. Imagine some random dude that isn't into basketball going to an NBA game then he starts complaining that ball isn't good because it's not like soccer, then he brings his friends that think alike and then the sport is changed to something very similar to soccer. Would he be right to do that? What about the original version basketball fans, does their opinion not count at all for not having the numbers? Are they doomed to create basketball leagues just to be eventually overwhelmed by soccer fans? In that case are you suggesting that the majority is ALWAYS right no matter what? Are you maybe implying that an individual's tastes and interests do not play a part in their identity and personality? Are you a bland fucking sponge or what?
Nah the problem is when social as fuck people start labeling themselves nerds after playing 1 half assed game of d&d, but no sane man would call himself a womanizer after having sex for the first time at 30.

>imagine some stranger comes into your house and starts messing your my shit
>imagine some guy erases basketball from existence by complaining
Here's the thing about an analogy. They illustrate a concept or an event or a premise. What are these supposed to be an analogy for, other than the made-up scenario in your head where you're the victim?
Because they are fuckin posers who wouldn't be into my hobby if it weren't for all the normies suddenly finding interest in my hobby. Twitch has ruined videogames forever. Developers are designing games to be streamed online instead of making a satisfying gaming experience.
>What are these supposed to be an analogy for, other than the made-up scenario in your head where you're the victim?
I dont see how the second analogy is anything but the clearest example of why others taking up a hobby they're not interested in is a bad thing.
Then, am I not ever allowed to enjoy things as I like? Only as the majority likes it because the majority is always right and I should bend to their will?
Tell me an example of a community being ruined because you seem to not even have a clue of what it's like, or even worse, maybe you think it's not a thing. Also you have yet to answer some of my questions.
>Would he be right to do that?
If its just one person then its pretty easy to just ignore. Not right or wrong. If there is a large enough majority then sure, maybe. Ultimately its up to the NBA or whoever handles the ruleset of basketball to make the decision so place the blame on them if anyone.
Also I dont know what this analogy is really for. Can you give me an example?
>What about the original version basketball fans, does their opinion not count at all for not having the numbers?
Maybe. Again, depends on who handles the ruleset and what their mission statement is.
>Are you maybe implying that an individual's tastes and interests do not play a part in their identity and personality?
Where did I imply that?
I said that people use their hobbies as a crutch to make them feel special/unique and they feel insecure when it becomes more popular as it is no longer that special/unique.
You think of something like video games. When i was growing up this was a hobby dominated by teen boys. Yes, your mom might have liked to play tetris but the video game companies weren't pandering to feminism.
Video games were a domain of teen nerd boys, of all color.
Then around 2010's is when everything changes. When people start getting offended at everything and demanding more diversity
I blame obama getting elected.
Then there is just non stop clickbait about how boys need to step aside because video games are for girls now loser !
Like, i was reading fucking playstation magazine and nintedo power when i was a kid and you know no fucking girls were reading that shit, the advertisements are like lara croft in bikinis.
when i was a kid you were either a sega house or nintedo house, and only rich kids had both, and you would fight with other boys about the stupidest shit.
the 2010's have been just awful for culture in general, a great homegeniztion, forced diveristy in everything, just bland corporate neoliberlism.
It was so cathartic when trump won
Also just because a minority feels like their community has been ruined doesnt mean they cant build/keep their own community.
You know you just gave the lefty argument for why we dont see women in compsci right?

>Tell me an example of a community being ruined because you seem to not even have a clue of what it's like, or even worse, maybe you think it's not a thing.
It's not a thing, at least not the way you think. A community changed and you didn't like the way it went. That's not ruined. If something was truly ruined, nobody would like it or participate.
I knew thete was no going back when my 37 year old boss started referring to herself a "girl gamer"
You put too much faith on the collectivity and I'm honestly pretty impressed that you wouldn't care having your hobby destroyed just because a lot of people thought it was wrong. The analogy I use tries to make you understand that it is possible to have something you like ruined because a majority of people that don't care about it much suddenly want to make changes over it.
In a purely business standpoint your arguments start to make sense, but I think you have yet to ask yourself whether it's ethical or not.
You did say >They feel like they are being stripped of a defining character trait, which is honestly pretty pathetic.
And in a way they are, I guess you haven't experienced liking something niche a lot, we are made up of our likes and interests after all.
So I don't know why a rather normal reaction should be "pathetic"
Yeah but then again, what would prevent the cycle to continue.
I feel you're going with the "it's good because the majority says so" approach. I don't understand the need to step over the minority.
>Go to anime convention because it's an excuse to get out of the house and while being into anime I've never been to one
>I'm not attractive (26 year old virgin) but I keep in shape and was easily the most muscular person there
>Looking at some guys shitty art as he's sitting there with his ugly gf
>He suddenly starts calling me out claiming I don't even know what anime the character I'm looking at comes from
>I've seen it of course as I've watched hundreds of animes but I only know the Japanese name
It made me feel bad and showed me that I'll never be welcomed by mainstream normalfags nor these loser beta normalfags even if we have similar interests.
>The analogy I use tries to make you understand that it is possible to have something you like ruined because a majority of people that don't care about it much suddenly want to make changes over it.
Well they obviously would care about it otherwise nothing would change. They wouldnt be involved at all.
And the hobby would never be ruined but rather changed. Different people like different things. Maybe you will see it that way but to everyone else, they will likely enjoy it a lot more.
>you have yet to ask yourself whether it's ethical or not.
What would be unethical about it?
The world doesnt revolve around me. I have had hobbies in the past that IMO changed for the worst but I accepted it and found new hobbies.
>You did say >They feel like they are being stripped of a defining character trait, which is honestly pretty pathetic.
Perhaps I worded it wrong then?
If you cant enjoy a hobby just because its popular (which was the original statement I was replying to) then that would be pretty pathetic and an indication that someone might be insecure.
>Yeah but then again, what would prevent the cycle to continue.
Nothing. But so what?
Why do normies have no sense of introspection or self? It's like you're starting into a Borg. I don't know how their thoughts got that shallow.
even within the isolated nerd/geek core-community it's all about sex and attention
it's just that the normies and alpha stacies/chads put it on a different level where the 1/10 lowlevel geeks can't compete and leave the scene
