more about the number of hard quality SETS done. because really only the last few reps of any set (both reps of top doubles, the last 2-3 of a top 5, the last 2-3 of a top 10, the last handful of a set of 15-20) count, and that's pretty much the same number per set regardless of rep range
other limitations apply such as some minimal intensity, etc. that's why calisthenics can build size, but only to a limited extent, mostly in beginners, and only if progressions of appropriate difficulty are used
must be multiply. single is usually only good for 30% to 50% higher than raw.

and of course if you want to train rate coding and other neurological factors, that minimal intensity has to be at least full fiber recruitment i.e. >80%
