Does 5x5 work?

Can anyone share their experiences doing 5x5? I was thinking of trying it out.

Yes, it does work.

t. on SL since March

I've not been making the gains I wanted because my sleep hasn't been on point. Only gained 1.4kg of muscle mass in three months. Still, my lifts have all gone up, my CNS is definitely better and my body is less soft.

for a microcycle, yes
not ideal for novices unless under coaching + novice has athletic background to avoid form breakdown due to fatigue
can be used in intermediate programming but not every training session per week
not the be or end all either, do it for a mesocycle 4-8 week block then switch to a different rep range like 3x8 or 4x6 for stuff like squats as varying what rep ranges you can perform a lift cleanly WILL improve your proficiency in that lift
a lot of "strength" lifters who only lift

Of course it does. Last year I was 165 lbs 5"10 , atheltic looking but total dyel but never lifted weights. Did it a full year with proper diet now im 185 lbs and loving it getting all kinds of compliment. Weirdly enough i saw very little change in the first 3 months but then its like my muscles exploaded. Did 4x3 months , deloafing to 50% of my max rep after 3 months and going at it again. I feel so strong now and im super hyped to start a bodybuilding program in 2 weeks. There aint no meme in 5×5, be patient and the core really toughen up and strenght increase immensly.

It works if you do it right obviously, don't half ass it.

Just know it won't carry you forever, maybe a year at most.

On it since february. I've gone from 65lbs on all the lifts (except DL) to:

>235 squat
>175 bench
>300 DL
>115 OHP
>170 Row

I'm at that point where it's starting to get fucking grueling, though. And I think I have a strained hip adductor. Gained about 15 lbs since Feb but don't feel any bigger. Definitely feel stronger tho

What about aesthetic, user? Do you feel like you've made any progress?

If you're new enough to lifting to ask this question literally anything will work

Not user but I've recently just began lifting and I went from never touching a weights only doing situps and pushups occasionally before to this. I haven't been eating right, but I've still noticed some gains, like in my forearms, lats, and biceps, and some chest.

I'm worried I'm not going to make gains if I try to loose weight while I do the 5x5. I'm 6'1 180 lbs and pretty skinny fat I guess. Would it make any sense to do a pull up routine while doing the 5x5? I can barely do one atm.

It works, but don’t forget your upper body

When I do 5x5 do I go up in weight every set or just warm up to max then 5x5 max the whole time ?

You can recover from bench/rows/chinups pretty easily low bar squats and deadlifts not so much.

>bench press 125lbs
>The Press™ 120lbs

How

You do the weight it says for that day for 5 sets of 5, champ. Warm up however you want

No lol, unless that’s your point. Most 5x5 programs have the 5x5 set the same weight and make you do more wieght th next time

I'm a little behind on my overhead press, I'm at 115, but it's definitely the hardest exercise for me to keep up with. What do you mean how?

OHP is ridiculously hard for my DYEL ass. I can barely put up 65lbs 3x5 but I can at least bench over 100 5x5. I hear it's difficult to progress OHP for most people, so it seems like it's your bench that's lagging.

Went from
192lbs
275 3x5squat
295 3x5 deadlift
205 1x5 bench
70lb 5x5 dumbbell ohp

to
187lbs
335 5x5 squat
365 1x5 deadlift
255 5x5 bench
185 5x5row
155 5x5 ohp

Using stronglifts app and reading rippetoe's book for form tips.
The hardest part with the app is going to the gym and doing a 5x5 squat with like 155 for the first workout and not blowing your brains out.

Just be sure you eat with every waking moment and I'm sure you'll be fine

Idk i haven't tried anything heavier than what the stronglift 5x5 has told me to do yet, other than deadlift, which I could do 285 before my grip gave out, now I'm trying to figure out claw grip. Only recently have I really been feeling the weight in most of the exercises, especially squat. I skipped the first few weeks because I felt like a silly baby man squating like 55 pounds or something for 5 sets of 5.

My goals are really to be able to ohp 1 plate, bench 2 plates, squat 3 plates and deadlift 4 plates. First time posting on Jow Forums, sorry

After two months I gained about 15lbs (dirty bulking because I'm skeletor) but I don't look any fatter. When I went back home both my parents said I looked bigger, and my friends have said I looked bigger as well.

I'm still dyel but I'm trying to make it as best I can.

Hey man I've been doing SL for 3-4 months now. I squat 145 DL 165 Row 105 bench 105 and barely OHP 67.5. ohp is the fucking devil just keep pushing yourself . I bought a set of micro plates so I can keep progressing 2.5lb per B day because 5lb is too much for me on ohp. I feel great and know I'm starting to gain muscle. everyone has a different background and body so don't beat yourself up because some random dude can lift 3x the weight you can. If you stick to the program , eat and sleep enough, DO THE RIGHT FORM you will make it, we're all gonna make it Bros.

Yes I gained 100 pounds on my 1rm squat and 20 pounds on my 1rm bench in one month.

I want to lick that butthole

>Most 5x5 programs have the 5x5 set the same weight and make you do more wieght th next time

Ok cool that is what I have been doing

Nah, if anything I look worse

I've been doing sean10mms stripped 5x5 for about two weeks now, I'm enjoying it and definitely gonna stick with it but I suck pretty hard at pull-ups, I can barely do one. I realize I'm missing like a third of my workout there and it's bumming me out. Should I stick with it and maybe I'll be able to do pull-ups in a month or so or is there something I can do to replace it for the time being?

Those wights are kilo right. Or are you a grill.

you can do assisted pullups, or the chair method

Freshmen year I went from skelly, every so often being told how skinny I was, to being complimented a lot from the muscle I gained. went from 130 to 165 pounds over about 8-9 months

I'm Starting over again from skinny fat. Been cutting to get rid of fat. I cant see my colar bones as easily so I definitly made some muscle but I don't feel I've been making as much gains as I was 3 years ago when I was bulking like crazy, obviously. But I've also been doing this for only for about 2 months.
I really want to see abs for the first time in my life but I was wondering if you guys think I should just bulk. I'm 5'11" 155 pounds
