Muscle ups. WTF

'Sup Jow Forums,

I can't fucking do muscle-ups and I can't figure out why. I can't get the transition no matter how hard I try and I should be strong enough. There was a point when I could do 100 pullups and I still couldn't fucking muscle up. I can do bar dips for like 15-20 reps straight so I'm just having trouble with the transition.

I couldn't do them on a straight bar and I can't do them on rings.

Training gymnastics now and I can jump into support position and do a bunch of other shit which are harder movements but can't do a fucking muscle up. I've tried watching videos and I'm honestly stumped. I'm even starting in false grip to make it easier, I've tried with kipping, etc.

tl;dr I'm having trouble getting my elbows pointed up and can't figure out exactly what I'm doing wrong. Like, I know the motion I need to do but can't will my body to do it lol. Any advice? How'd you finally get it?

pic related = physique from doing rings for the past 3 weeks after a 3 month break from any working out.

stay away from our women you god damn nigger

The mighty three pack abs

Learn to do pullups where your chest touches the bar, do speed pullups, have a friend push you over the bar (they push your back upwards), when you can comfortably do pullups to mid chest fast the muscle up will come easy

1. learn to chest higher on pullups - upper chest touches bar -> mid chest touches bar etc etc

2. Do speed pullups/explosive pullups/switching grip pullups

3. Have a friend push you upwards during the transition phase

GL, shouldnt be too hard

Also try a narrower grip - its harder to do muscle ups with super wide grip normally, try shoulder width

it's literally completely momentum

I'm asian, you dumb fuck

lol even when I'm super lean my bottom 2 still barely show. Fucking genetics

So when I'm practicing these pullups to mid-chest should I be focusing on slow reps or be doing them explosively? Gonna give these a try tomorrow - thanks!

Shit is pissing me off and I'd like to get them before May is finished. I think it's doable but I just need it to fucking click

oriental or some sort of jungle asian?

keep working on your false grip on rings, ... bar is harder imo

I cant do 3 pullups lol

Learn, bro.
You don't have to have a god tier body to do pull ups.
I can barely do 5 and my long term goal is the muscle up too.
Speaking of which, anyone here got advice on increasing pullup reps?
I'm 6 foot 170lbs so relatively heavy about 18% bodyfat(visible muscle but also visible fat, not bothered about aesthetics tbqh)
I started doing ladder sets to increase repetitions performed in a day (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 repeat a few times) but I'm not really sure about the programming of increasing pullup reps. I find even doing 8 to be absolutely impossible and no matter how much I do negatives until my arms burn I can not seem to do more than 5 reps without struggling to do the 6th, every damn time.
I swear it's been like a year, but to be fair I haven't really focused pullups, started doing handstands and bs etc.
ANYWAYS, how 2 more pullups

Hang off the side of a building. The adrenaline will help.

I remember seeing a video of some dude doing pullups on the side of a building then being too weak to get back up.
He died.

Tldr but do weighted pullups

I can barely do weighted.
Max 3 reps for like 15lbs
How often should I increase weight?

unironically this

how the fuck could you do 100 pull ups? what is the secret to increase reps

nice trips
the secret is to do them as 20 sets x 5
also even if he is lightweight no leg faggot, this kid can't do 20 strict pullps
15 is also doubtful

The secret is crossfit.

No it's not. Say that to an Olympic gymnast. If you are strong you should be able to do a controlled muscle up.

Practice.

Used to have a hard time learning false grip and the transition on rings but now I do 6 strict L-sit muscle ups on rings, goal is 10 reps. Best full upper body exercise

I started doing weighted once I was able to do 15 pull ups and about 50 in 4-5 sets. By then I was able to add 25lbs and 5 lbs every week until plateauing at about 45lbs last week. If you are fat try losing weight too but I think being able to do 15 normal pull ups is going to translate well into weighted.

I'm in a similar situation. I can routinely do a set of 20 of good form, full ROM no kipping pull ups at the beginning of my workout. I've also started messing around with weighted pull ups and I can do 5 reps with 50 pounds. I have no problem with dips. But I still can't do the muscle up. I can get one arm up and pull myself over the bar, but its not even remotely proper form.

You're probably too slow. A bar muscle-up requires you to get a hell of a lot of speed going on the pullup portion to get you into the proper transition point.
