Back when my bro was diagnosed with cancer the vet had him on a daily steroid regimen. After getting him set on a good healthy diet and taking him out exercising daily he managed to bulk up from a trim 40 pounds to a good solid 60 pounds of muscle.

If you get a cat,don't get a baby cat unless you have plenty of time to spend with him since they require a lot of attention. Otherwise adopt one that's preferably 2+years old, by that point there fine being by themselves

You don't know you're okay with that commitment, a lot can happen in 15 years.

It's definitely worth doing. Get an adult cat (adopt a black or black and white- they are often overlooked and are usually very affectionate), and enjoy its independence even as an indoor cat. They really take care of themselves. If it doesn't work out for you there are often family and friends or friends of them that are willing to take on a cat. Don't return him/her to the shelter as the older they get the less opportunity for adoption they get; you won't even have to consider this though because all you will need to do is feed it twice a day and change its litter box. Including some good (intense) play sessions with my three boys, preparing their raw food (Not necessary just get tinned and kibble!), etc, I probably dedixate 45min-1 hour a day to them but if you go with tins you're looking at maybe 30 min a day.

my neighbour when I was a kid used to have a beautiful huge cat. Not sure what breed, my mom had a video on an old ass tape where they had put me in a sledge, tied the rope to the cat's harness (the old man used to go out and walk his cat). They then had the cat drag me around in the snow. Not sure if he enjoyed that, but he got more fond of me after that, like a fucking dog caring for a child
