That laptop will be able to run plenty of fun stuff. I would have got something with more emphasis on the usability of the whole package. 1600 x 900 makes it less useful than her phone for lots of stuff. Anything less than 1080p is unacceptable in 2018.

We don't play on console, never have never will. And this laptop is 1920x1080.

My only concern is that it will be too heavy for her, since she lays in bed most of the time while using her laptop. She's really small and this thing is beefy as hell.

The helios 300 has a 1080p screen and the switch has a 720p screen and a lot of docked games dont even hit 1080p, some games like doom dont even do native 720p in handheld

if you want, i suggest you try to return it if you can, and get at LEAST an 8000 series (i5-8250u for example) with MX150 graphics (mx150 is twice as good as 940mx, and 1050 is twice as good as that, and 1050ti is like 40% better than that.

here's a useful resource if you MUST stick to the laptop form factor. i highly recommend a desktop instead but if you must go gaming laptop, i would think the acer nitro 5 or dell 7567 are the best "resaonably" priced ones
