you are gonna confuse people here who dont understand but ill give a quick run down.

Sprint Cyclists/Velodrome Cyclists
>lift heavy like a Powerlifter
>train to ride fast as fuck on a niche track that even the wrong crank length can cause you to hit the incline and send you off your bike
>these tracks in reality are few and far between when compared to something like a running track or Olympic swimming pool

Now onto what most people perceive cyclist as:
Long Distance Cyclist:
>skinny as faurk
>train like an ultramarathoner that even makes long distance running fags look like pussies
>100mi a day would be atleast once a week for your average competitive cyclist
>more time consuming than comp body building because you have to pull almost fulltime job amount of hours doing cardio
>have to eat in the saddle every 15-30min or you will legit be running on empty
>constant deficit to the point your body suffers and you really cant get around it.

My father did both, I only ever did competitive distance.

my father does ultra distance. he weighs about 72kg right now, super skinny cause hes training for two events.

Judge Dread rides a bike.

There are differences between several groups of road cyclists as well:
>sprinter
Has verry high peak power, great at explosive sprints up to about 70 km/h.
>time trialist
Can sustain a high speed in the flats.
>climber
Can ride uphill verry fast, has a insane power/weight ratio.
>alrounder
Does everything decent, but doesn't realy excell at anything.

72kg isn't skinny lol, unless he's like 6'2 or above

its skinny for him, i dont know his height. he hasnt been this weight since after he finished the 13 day race that he will be doing again in july.

Roadies are fags
MOUNTAIN BIKE MASTER RACE

22 ish bmi is really kinda the upper limit for cyclists/runners. It's only genetic freaks who can be that heavy and still perform at a top level. 19-22 is the optimal range, but obviously regardless of bmi all these people are going to have low bodyfat

would a stationary bike be good for leg and calf gains? specifically because you can change the resistance

Like a trainer? Yeah they're good but only if you go for at least an hour and a half. The only time I ever use a trainer is if it's ungodly hot outside or if it's shit weather. If recommend getting a road bike and hooking it up to a trainer if you absolutely can't go on a road ride. Just remember, mountain biking will get you way more Jow Forums compared to road in my opinion.

thanks

>he uses BMI
Jesus it's like talking to a mom or something. BMI says I'm obese, I'm mid teens BF and 6'1" and 187.

>have to eat in the saddle every 15-30min or you will legit be running on empty
>constant deficit to the point your body suffers and you really cant get around it
that sounds fucking horrible. I hate it when I'm hungry after a workout but having to eat every 15-30 minutes sounds legit retarded. I guess those cyclists don't eat proper meals but instead some shit like shakes and candy bars, right?

uhh 1) we're not talking about people with a ton of muscle, we're talking about cyclists and runners 2) you completely ignored what I said at the end about low bodyfat being the prerequisite

Hell you fuckin say.

Nah when you are in the saddle you basically snack on carbs n shiet. Cycling shops will sell "go food" you can also make your own. PB sandwiches can work... just not crunchy. Lol learned hard way.

he needs some reserves on him because he usually loses so much when he does them. body fat was about 13% yesterday.
heres his loaded bike at the moment. he has to be self sufficient of course, and hes ordered a bespoke bike which will come in a few weeks.

sounds like a chore but hey, lifting the same weights over and over again can also be seen as exactly that
>Cycling shops will sell "go food"
>go food
you just know that cycling shops are selling that shit at a far too expensive price. it's probably way more inexpensive to make carb shakes or, like you said, sandwiches

Yeah but some of the stuff is pretty good and seriously worth it. You know how long it takes to eat a PB sandwich at 20+mph? Legit easier to take a GU every 15-30.

My father rented one of his buildings to a cycling shop so I got bikes, food, and gear @ cost.

Imagine eating 5-6kcal on a bike

I don't have to senpai, I know. It's hell. Your jersey is literally PACKED with foods.

all points about competative roadies being spookie skeletons are true, but if you dont overtrain youll have massive leg gains in no time like me in all areas: calves, quads and datass (and without too much knee stress like with heavy squats).

trick is to keep rides under 1 hour, or 2-3h, but if you do 2-3 hour rides, keep once a week. ride CLIMBS for massive gains.
Keep a slightly lower cadence (lower spinning rate) and that is all, DO NOT OVERTRAIN and you are good. I know plenty of swole casual cyclists, you just need not to keep it your prime sport.

Stationary bikes? meh, get a trainer, cheaper and better.

I'm by no means a cyclist but I find it a decent way to train legs while aggressively cutting/fasting. If I squat heavy while very hungry I feel like I'm going to black out but I can go all out on the stationary bike for about an hour and get a nice pump

swole is for kids.

someone post froome spooky skeleton.

why did you include me in this

unironically the most helpful thread in catalog right now

>Canyon
How does it feel to be a pariah of the cycling community? Might as well be riding on cheap chinese carbon.

youtube.com/watch?v=PCLvqN9kwuo
>ywn hit 2000 watts

>pushes over 2000W
>still looses against roadcyclist with 6 minutes difference on a 19 minute climb

If that's Robert Förstemann he's swole as fuck thanks to a myostatin deficiency.
Must be an old pic, he's megs swole now and too big to be competitive.
