The key is finding something better to do with your time. If you quit video games with no back up you'll just be staring at a wall during the times you would usually be playing video games.

just like stop

>finding something better than videogames
Good luck with that

You're literally playing with children's toys

I am literally not. I play mature games with sex and violence.

>start talking to girl
>realise after 2 weeks i havent played video games
wow would you look at that

Love yourself enough to not waste time sitting down distracting yourself from becoming the best version of yourself.

Congratulations youre a manchild

Because you say so?

Because you play video games

Just stop playing video games man

Why would i? I like playing videogames.
>participating in activities that you enjoy makes you manchild

just because i enjoy it means it's not for children

oops forgot my greenie pointers

>Finish degree
>get job

Haven't played for months. Trying to raid or farm in WoW after 10 hrs at work is a fucking hassle.

Literally find something else to do. Sell your console if you have to.

How much time do you spend a week playing?

is playing 50 hrs a week too much?

I try to reduce my gaming times too. I meditate before i play an hour, like 5 min. For the second hour, i meditate for 10min and 20 for the next. It reduces my gaming time to 2-3, relaxes me through meditation and i have more time to be productive

BASED

Get awesome enough that it doesn't hold your interest.

I've just gotten bored of them. I'm not saying you should never play or I never play, but I just get bored of really spending significant amounts of time. Maybe one or two weeks a year will I spend more than 5 hours playing some incredible new release.

> be me
> 6'4 220lbs masterrace
> quit gaming few moths ago
> life is boring and pointless right now

think about your ideal game. think about the kind of game you really want to play. now exhaustively and uncompromisingly look for it. dont worry, you won't find it. now remember the feeling of 'fuck it's and refer to it when you think about playing some mediocre corridor themed current gen piece of shit.

My fucking sides

>incredible new release
Good fucking luck, video games suck. I literally play call of duty once a day for a match or two just to relieve some stress. I hate myself for it but I dont have time to devote to an RPG or get good at battle royales. Its simple, quick, and helps me decompress after work

How can you have fun playing video games as a grown up man?
When I was a kid, I liked mario and super metroid and all that.
My last game was Metro the last light and only because I know the books.

Honestly, why does it make fun to play video games every single day.
You dont get anything in return, its not nearly as much fun as sex or party or just hanging out with people.
Multiplayer games are toxic and full of kids.

Literally just stopped one day, i'm several months in and have no desire to play anything.

Im almost 28yo and have been a gamer since i was 7

You don't enjoy them, you think you do because the only time you are a hero or do something great is in a fantasy world. Don't replace video games with just some hobby, you won't be any more happy or fulfilled. Go out in the world and do something meaningful, good, and difficult. You will be the hero you desire to be, and others will praise and respect you for having done it.

youtube.com/watch?v=pADaCLqhP1E&t=158s

I watched this video and it redpilled the fukkk out of me. In the future that I see for myself in 10 years, I don't spend time in videogames. I want to live in real life, doing real activities, learning, enjoying, meeting wonderful people and developing a career. None of this is possible in a video game.

>You don't enjoy them, you think you do because the only time you are a hero or do something great is in a fantasy world
You sound like a fucking boomer

i wish i coyld play more. all my friends are gamerbois and i feel like such a fraud when talking with them since i only play an hour a day on average, and only one single game at the time.

Worst part is that im really shitty at games too.

he isn't right about the reasoning but playing video games as an adult is pathetic, it's a hard pill to swallow but we all know it's true and that's why it hurts so much

Kek. Man of taste

you will not be able to stop playing video games if you spend all day by your computer

Ehhh whats the big deal, play some vidya if it helps you relax. Its not any different than sitting in front of a tv watching netflix or whatever.

As long as you have your priorities straight and dont ditch important stuff to play games youre good. People saying you NEED to ditch games in order to "grow up" are insecure tryhards

Pick up an instrument
Learn a language
Learn to surf
Learn to ski
Make sculptures
Paint
Join a sport team and practice ever day (bonus point for becoming the best player and bringing chicks along to games that will froth you)
Go to music gigs
Write
READ

There's so much good shit to do in the world man and most of it is better for the soul than vidya. I was a pretty intense gamer my whole life until I got into my PhD. Suddenly after working 50+ hour weeks when I get home I was much more motivated to do more productive things (talk to my parents, practice my instruments, skateboard, surf) and they were way more satisfying than video games.

Choose something that you can steadily improve at every day.

I always was getting bored pretty fast with them, and fps felt like it requires Too much time to git gud. I liked old games I played in childhood, new ones never really attracted me. The few games I finished were puzzle quest, portal, warcraft 3. In general in highschool i started feeling it's really pointless and stopped enjoying them. My last bursts were pokemon and diablo 2 around 2-3 years ago but they were pretty short, after week or two I was finished with the game and felt it's enough. I think when you mature you find more productive or interesting hobbies that improve and fullfill you and games just stop being attractive to you. If you're an adult and play games daily then something went wrong, but I guess there's no other way than maturing to really change your mindset.

>this bad habit is okay because it's the same as this other socially acceptable bad habit
not gonna make it

Same here. No PhD with 50+ hours a week, but when I got my degree and a full time job, it just feels like such a waste to spend time and energy on games. I get depressed if I'm not putting energy into working towards financial independence

>durrr video games are for children
You realize you're on an anime image board, right?

>toxic and full of kids
You realize you're on Jow Forums, right? This site is literally "toxic and full of kids".

>Bad habit

Relaxation is good for body and mind, everybody needs it. How you choose to relax and unwind is your own choice.

This tryhard attitude to HAVE TO BE occupied 24/7 with something "constructive" to make you a more interesting person only stems forth from insecure virgins who do everything they can in the hopes of finally getting noticed by girls.

Just because you are an incel that used to spend 14 hours a day playing World of Warcraft doesnt mean playing games every now and then is a "bad habit". Learning to control yourself and get your priorities straight is more "being an adult" than trying this hard to look like one

This user speaks the truth. I went a very long time without games one time and then later gave myself permission to play again. I had a blast. The differences this time was that I naturally get my stuff done then play.

I've found when you deny engaging in an activity for a period of time, you can return to it in a more balanced way. I play occasionally now but it's after my shift is handled. Even have some days where I game all day and no longer beat myself up anymore because my shit is handled before hand.

Gaming itself is not bad and is fun. Gaming when you have other shit to do is a problem that stems from you and you alone.

Couldn't agree more with this guy

no its not. I'm only on Jow Forums and /lit/. People are over 18 on both boards and /lit/ is mostly my age.

fucking kek

>Sorry I dunno

>stigma makes things better or worse
lol
feel bad for you famalam

By realizing they are a complete waste of time and money

This

This.

Also video games don't have to be antisocial. If you have plenty of friends that play them with you, it's a great time. Met my gf through a mutual interest in Black Ops II and we're still together and play a couple times a week.

In a world of hollywood, shitty music, TV, etc. video games are clearly the least-bad entertainment option.

I haven't played a non-mobile videogame in months but what's with the "dude only children play videogames" mindset I see on /v/ ?
Only tryhard petersoncels say this garbage. If you faggots actually left your houses once in a while you would realize that tons of adults play videogames, watch superhero movies and do all that retarded kiddie garbage, even well-balanced ones.
Stop believing in Jow Forums memes, stop watching peterson, and stop trying so hard to become acceptable to other people.

Attached: 1513325019645.jpg (1536x2048, 190K)

Find a middleground.

Can be swole and play games, it's possible.

Spoiler alert: I do it

Just stopped being fun when I left childhood.
When I started dieting, cooking, and lifting, I found myself much more fulfilled and felt better about myself.
Now I'd rather go for a walk while listening to Rip talk strength on his podcasts or shop online for home gym equipment then play a game.

Haven't played games in months, but should I ever get the urge I really want to finish XCOM 2 WotC.
Also really looking forward to bannerlord, but I'll probably never play because I'm 100% Linux now.
Also CK2 expansions, I love that game and would probably sink a whole 4 hours into it before getting bored next time they release DLC.

>/v/
I meant Jow Forums obviously

This.

>life is boring and pointless right now
Had to realize it sometime, buddy

Attached: 1523168433834.jpg (680x1020, 67K)

it is a straight up bad habit, just because you need a crutch to justify why you playing video games as "it's relaxing" doesn't make it okay.

Why is it a bad habit? Please elaborate.

it's no different than saying you still like playing with lego, it's just sad

you are wasting your time.
no person ever feeled relax from playing video games.
I'm pretty sure most people get angry and furious when they play.

It also shrinks your imagination, your ability and desire for wisdom and knowledge.
Only Idiots play Video games, sorry.

Do you have any actual reason other than your own opinion?

> Man, shitposting on an anime fitness board is SO much better than playing video games

Every single fucking time it's always this

>how do I stop doing this thing that hurts me long term

Well, you can see it hurts you long term, what more do you want?

A piece of paper validating your humanity and ability to act on your own?

A list of reasons you already know that justify stopping your participation?

A pat on the back telling you it's okay to be a fuck up?

I seriously don't get these fucking threads

I've had and dropped most common bad habits because I'm not a fucking slave to complacency.

You have a limited number of minutes on earth, are you gonna waste em? Or maximize every single one?

You wanna die having spent most your life being a porn addicted wage slave?

You want to hit 50 without having reproduced (your most basic evolutionary prerogative) and wondering why you're unfulfilled?

You wanna be an MLG that has never had a serious relationship because you use vidya as an escape mechanism from your own pitiful lack of will power?

Inb4 "It's hard"

Every that is worth doing is hard.

Stop watching the clock tick, gain skills, accomplish goals and fucking do something with your life

think of all the other things you could be doing with your life rather than sitting in front of a screen rotting away

I find single player games relaxing, others I play to get that competitive high that I don't get from sports anymore.

I don't think "shrinking your imagination" is even a thing. As far as wisdom and intelligence go, I work in a cancer research lab and balance the two just fine.

play an instrument or something instead of wasting your time

the amount of cope in this thread is too damn high

I haven’t felt the urge to play video games since I started getting in shape. All I do is browse Jow Forums and try accumulating all the knowledge I can

a lot of agreement in the replies for claims that are constructed so poorly
projection, rationalization, cope
or at the very least, conflation
I like your final sentiment, but not its tone
it's also a bit contradictory to criticize the arbitrary level of effort involved when that's entirely subjective

basically
>this
but I still hate you

I have a well balanced life, a gf, full time dream job. Playing video games with friends/gf for 8 hours a week isn't going to kill me.

True, I've actually been looking into stuff like this. Got some painting supplies last weekend, will see how that goes.

Faggots actually feel like they accomplished something when they max out their stats in RS or win a match in Fortnite without realizing that it's just as braindead a hobby as watching TV or browsing the internet. I can't think of a single reason why anyone would argue that it is a good hobby but for some reason it isn't uncommon for people come to a fitness board out of all places to do it.

>I work in a cancer research lab
as a caretaker?

>lying on 7chong
disregarded

I really don't think any hobby can be seen as good or bad if it's kept at moderate levels (outside of self-destructive things). If someone gets enjoyment out of it, why judge?

Post-doc

FUCK YOU WHY WONT YOU LISTEN TO ME VIDEO GAMES IS BAD HABIT YOU COULD ONLY BE MAN IF YOU STOP PLAYING VIDEO GAMES YOU FUCK MANCHILD HAHAHA STAY MANCHILD FOREVER WHILE I FOLLOW PETERSON ADVICE TO CLEAN MY ROOM LOL KYS YOU MANCHILD

MY OPINION IS BETTER THAN YOURS YOU MANCHILD HAHA HAVE FUN PLAYING GARBAGE MADE FOR KIDDIES WHILE IM PRACTICING ACTUAL INSTRUMENT

>he's says while sitting in front of a screen doing nothing constructive
Roids must also juice up the autism in people

I think it's pretty easy to identify good or bad hobbies based on how it benefits you, for example if I joined a local sports team I'd be put in a social environment where I'd also improve my cardio, but if I spent that time playing video games instead it just about does nothing for me. That being said I don't really care if people opt to choose shit hobbies over good ones but I just find it absurd that people try to argue that gaming is a good hobby.

Playing video games with friends can be social. I guess rec sports would have cardio but I just do it in the morning before work.

No. This sounds like the rant of someone who is excuse making.
When you find things yiu enjoy and are productive you dont feel the need to “relax” and unwind with video games ir shit. You feel fufilled and have funndoing whatever it is you are doing. You find more relaxing ways to engage in them over time while still being productive in some way. I.e passive learning a language vs hars focuse. Watch a tv show in that language for a bit.

Or do some mild reading to relax. Sure video games are good every now and then maybe you socialise when you play them but feeling like you need to “recover” and relax by playing them all evening or some equally time wasting thing is just excusing making for boring people.
Now days i get frustrated with games, cant play them and relax as i feel im wasting my time.

Pseudointellectuals should be gassed

That's because you are extremely insecure , you feel that playing videogames decreases your social capital and your chances of getting a gf

He's right though.
Video games are for losers, they provide a sense of accomplishment for people who have no real source

Yeah man! Well rounded, successful adults would NEVER play video games.

I'd limit that to "playing videogames as an identity is for losers".

You're as much a loser for picking up a game for 20 minutes as you are for flipping on a TV show at some point.

Had a professor at Uni who:

>Lead Operations Manager for Multi-Mil company
>Two Trucks, Two Porsches, Audis for the family
>Lives in nice neighborhood
>Nice suits + jewelry
>Played Battlefield on PS3 once a night

I think you can be successful and play a video game.

Thats not why at all. I just think its because every time i end up playing i feel like I genuinely have something better to do which i havent done yet.

Like seriously what’s with video gamers think that just because someone doesnt enjoy video games that they are “ insecure”? People who do photography or something don’t automatically go “hurr he they dont like photography because they are insecure “.

Gamers defend their pursuit so hard for a reason.

When i was a teenager i’d happily sink hours a day into games with friends because i had no goals other than school. These days i have lots of different goals i want to hit by 30 and gaming often means im nit doing at least one of them.
If you have no passions or goas, its fine and you probably have this view that anyone who feels gaming is a waste of time is insecure and wants to do other things for that reason. Realise this: when you find thhings you are passionate about, you feel like doing them. You feel bad for neglecting them.

And most well adjusted ppl i know say that video games are a waste of time but they cannot stop playing, whixh only confirms that to me.

If you feel like this is a personal attack on you for ppl to say video games are a waste of precious time, then evaluating your reaction is wise. The mere fact someone says they’d rather do something else they *enjoy* that is also more tangible shouldnt invalidate you or that person at all. Maybe you go to the gym or do things because you feel like they are necessarily part of a means to an end. When you find something that the means is the enjoyment ans the end is the distant then you will understand why ppl might have his view in video games.

What do you accomplish by eating good meals? Just eat grey nutrient rich paste
What do you accomplish by lifting weights? Making your muscles bigger? Why do you watch movies? Why do you do anything that does not benefit you specifically in that moment?
Maybe because your not a fucking animal

>Maybe because your not a fucking animal
Yes you are...
What are you, some kind of religious faggot who thinks people are special chosen species and evolution is a conspiracy by the devil?

That being said, give an animal a cook book and a nice set of ingredients and he'll just eat the ingredients, give an animal the choice between sleeping and lifting weights and he'll sleep.
They have no sense of meaningful self improvement, just like gamers

this pretty much. It's hard af to let go when you have nothing else going on in your life. Once I got my shit together I just lost interest gradually until I now play 3-4 matches of league a week. And I used to be super competitive, hovering in top 200 on EU

I defend it because you people won't shut the fuck up about me being a manchild for how I choose to waste ~10 hours a week.

peterson never said videogames are bad in of themselves. He said living in your mother's basement doing nothing but playing videogames, while covered in cheeto dust is bad.
is he wrong?

The second post was sarcasm, I agree with you. As long as you have other constructive things to balance with in your life, 8 hours of video games a week is just fine.

>old enough to remember when pong came out
>hit the arcade like a madman
>every console since then
>just finished latest yakuza
>no fucks given

I love vidya. Absolutely love it. You fuckers have no balls to stand up for what you like.

Go to hell. Legedary mode awaits.

Almost nobody uses his time 100% effectively. Everyone wastes time in a day, whether that's watching TV, a movie, playing videogames, browsing inane facebook memes, etc.
That's why "dude you shouldn't play videogames it's a waste of time" is a terrible argument. You waste time every day, even those tryhards ITT who brag about their cool hobbies are now posting in an anime board. What a creative use of your time.

It's okay if you don't like videogames, that wasn't the point of my post. But there is nothing wrong with playing videogames to let off some steam, unless of course it gets in the way of your other activities. Playing a game you like for 3-4 hours a week isn't a "bad habit".

Attached: 1445238942405.jpg (640x853, 140K)

>3-4 hours a week
Man I really like all kinds of single player games and that isn't enough time.
Guess I'm a manchild.

Your right user, and i dont deny that at all. But being honest and saying they are in fact a waste of time is something many cannot admit, because they either spend 30 or more hours a week on them or dont have anything else to be productive on and enjoy.

I play sometimes still
But on average not a lot. I just accept it is a wate of time.

Almost every i know post 21 who spends more than 4 or 5 hours a day on games after work is deteriorating. Getting fat, not gaining much skills at all and overall just letting themselves go. And many are friends who openly admit that gaming feels like a waste of time.

Nobody is saying dont play, we are saying they open the door for people to let themselves go. The getting fat bald and boring by 30 happens for same reasons. The average person just becomes lazy and wastes time
After work from college onwards. Whether its games TV or anything. Most ppl are boring and average and poor.

You lift right? I mean ur posting on fit. Most guys look like shit after 25, they let themselves go. Same concept

It's merely an example.

As long as you do everything an adult should do to advance himself (or herself) in life in an X amount of time per day, nobody should care about what you do the rest of the day.

For example you sleep for 8 hours, go to work for 9 hours, go to college and study appropriately, go to the gym for 90 minutes 3 times per week, go to social gatherings with friends or gf on a regular basis, etc.

There are successful sports players and actors playing video games and watching anime. Your past time activities don't define you, your success as a person does. A neet who cooks and paints and writes poetry is still a neet.
