It starts with saying whey protein is just lining the pockets of capitalists but studies say its harmful.
But its the most mumbled up pseudoscience taking wrong conclusions on un-peer-reviewed papers.
Anyway someone tried sharing this with me. I fucking hate this fake news shit. They did a smear piece on fasting 2 weeks ago based on a bullshit rat study.
People say "why do you care? just dont read it!" - well my unfit friends keep trying to tell me I am harming my body by exerting myself, fasting 18 hours a day, eating 150g protein. And they roll their eyes when I tell them to read a metastudy or link a doctors blog. So I stopped talking to them when they talk to me about it, but then they just shit talk me in groups at the pub. So now I see them much less.
God I fucking hate The Guardian. anyone else suffer from this?
the world aims to suppress passion in all fields ignore the bullshit and trust your own conclusions, they should be free of any bias except those which would benefit you first and foremost
Justin Reyes
High protein diets are a gymcel meme. You need ~4g above maintenance level to build more muscle. There's a good chance most of you are eating more protein than necessary, which really only serves to spike blood sugar, especially if saturated fat intake is not adequate (common with protein isolates).
Colton Roberts
How did you even connect with people like that in the first place op?
Xavier Young
define maintenance, also define need even when nitrogen balance is achieved, higher protein intakes are constantly shown to be benefitial for muscle mass accumulation and retention, specially if you have piss poor genetics like most people do The older you are the less sensitive your body is to the anabolic properties of dietary protein. High protein diets are godtier and anyone talking shit is a dyel
Isaac Moore
Why argue with people in the first place? Just say "ok" and move on. The vast majority of people are to dense and stupid to have an actual dialogue with about nutrition or other important matters and simply want to talk at you.
Also: why are you surrounding yourself with these kinds of people.
My friends found out I was doing intermittent fasting and asked me "why? Aren't you hungry" and were genuinely interested in having a discussion about it and actually learning WHY I was, with most conceding 'they could never'. Surround yourself with better people.
Andrew Lewis
Maintenance is whatever your body requires to maintain lean body mass. And the reason its beneficial for gaining and maintaining muscle weight is because it turns to glucose, serving exactly the same function as carbohydrates which is the most anabolic and essential in retention of intramuscular water. But again, it's not like everyone is necessarily interested in just muscle gains, these things are not very healthy and people get very, very sick from eating high protein diets (see: rabbit starvation, Vilhjalmur Stefansson on lean vs. fatty meat)
Joseph Rivera
The guardian is lost, has been lost for years. What used to be a champion for the working class is now a hybrid abomination, part Huffington post, part tumblr. They want to turn the UK into a Caliphate populated with rape gangs who turn little girls into kebabs when they're done with them, soiboys and trannies.
Gavin Green
I agree, but it doesn't mean high protein diets are a meme, plus just because you only synthesize a pathetic ammount of muscle proteins a day(around 2-10g a day) doesn't mean you need only to eat slightly over "maintenance" in order to gain, because you need to eat a disproportionate ammount of protein in order to benefit in terms of anabolism. >rabbit starvation Myth that hasn't been proven As much as 400g protein daily has been shown to not cause any bad effects in humans. And eating mostly protein daily also isn't an issue on the short term either, the whole thing about explorers starving on rabbit cannot be explained at all with the anti protein dogma because rabbits are not 100% protein to begin with. The reason why "rabbit starvation" became a meme is because people eating mostly protein and very little calories basically never accumulate any fat, and just burn through their fat stores like they would on any diet that restricted them of calories.
Caleb Reyes
Yes it's because rabbits do not provide adequate saturated fat intake. It's similar to how nignogs in Africa starve to death despite eating rice or maize every day. What I'm saying is, that eating high protein specifically is stupid, the "anabolic effect" is literally just blood sugar spikes from gluconeogenesis, you would achieve the exact same effect by eating high carb.
Jose Hughes
This, just ignore and don't talk with passion about things you care with people who clearly don't share the same mindset. I've learned to keep my mouth shut when my dadbod friends complain about their state and I confront them with the things they should put in practice

You can survive and thrive on 0 saturated fats, it's not that the rabbits had 0 saturated fats anyway, it's just that they ate too little energy and as such they starved, even 4k calories of protein alone would put most people in a caloric deficit due to how protein is metabolized in humans.
Jeremiah James
This No, u.. nigger
Robert Baker
Not that I don't disagree with that guardian piece but protein powders have been proven to be full of heavy metals, honestly you're better off just eating real food rather than powders of which the composition is dodgy at best.
Nolan Moore
oy vey! Can't have strong and healthy goyms running around, can't we?
>You can survive on 0 saturated fats Yes. >thrive No.
The reason you are able to survive for a period of time without saturated fats is solely down autophagy, this is the only reason anyone is able to stay on a vegan diet for extended periods of time and hence why they all eventually get sickly underweight. Saturated fat is the basic building block of all cells and absolutely 100% essential for life, literally all animals have a diet based on saturated fat.
Jordan Myers
the graun is an excellent news source but unless the author is actually good, like David Mitchell, their opinion pieces are basically self-parody
I appreciate that they report on issues that matter but how anyone can give column inches to Jessica Valenti is beyond me
>the anabolic effect is literally just blood sugar spikes from gluconeogenesis First off, blood sugar spikes are not anabolic, at best they are anti catabolic. Eating high protein isn't stupid. Africans don't starve to death if they eat enough calories, period, makes no logical sense for anyone to starve on anything if they eat enough calories unless they have a fucked up metabolic disorder that would kill them anyway regardless of diet.
Just because blood sugar rises and insulin spikes from eating protein doesn't mean it is the anabolic component of dietary protein, eating protein by itself is anabolic and anti catabolic, eating protein literally reduces myostatin, increases muscle satellite cell proliferation and mTor and MS6K and IGF-1 all in conjunction, you can't isolate just one thing and claim it is the only reason why a nutrient is anabolic.
Brody Turner
Honestly all that need be said is >grauniad
Lucas Edwards
>you can't thrive on 0 saturated fats Provide reasons then. Plus, every single animal meat has saturated fats in varying ammounts, even trace ammounts are found in fish, so again it's not that they were eating 0 saturated fats, because even if they were eating 0 saturated fats(which is impossible) there is literally 0 reasons why doing so would make them starve or suffer in terms of health. Some fat is necessary, but it doesn't have to be saturated.
they were my best friends at uni. nobody was political back then. its only after graduating and them spending years reading Guardian and NYT during lunchbreaks that theyve become unbearable socialist/communist/feminist/transactivist and so on. As I said, I see them much less. Even blocked a couple who were my once best friends. One of which turned from straight to bi to gay to trans to pansexual (he has sex with trees).
> an excellent news source strongly disagree. whenever they talk about anything I know they are totally wrong and miss major details that know the whole story. I mean see the OP post about protein. See how manipulatively it is written. Its not in the opinion section.
When I say opinion in this case I'm referring to articles written by an author who's disposed a certain way as per the OP, should probably have clarified
that said, to be fair I think you'll find a vast majority of reporting that's vaguely scientific is utter bullshit, and usually it even gets worse when it comes to nutrition. Turning evidence into practice at a health systems level is my job and it's stupid how often people get this kind of thing wrong, journalists more than most.
Also basically everything I read on there I take with a massive grain of salt to account for their absurd leanings and try to cherry pick the good info, I don't trust any major media source but at least can account for their biases as I go whereas others are less predictable

David Cocks looks like he hasn't seen a gym his entire life, so this isn't too surprising.

Its always so easy for people to say this. These people have been my best friends for a long time. I was at one of their weddings last weekend. Its the same in relationship advice - everyone says "dump her / dump him". Sometimes its best to work through problems rather than constantly burning bridges and starting over with new people.
Ryan Russell
>It starts with saying whey protein is just lining the pockets of capitalists but studies say its harmful.
Well, they could not be more right there. Looks like OP is a protein shiet salesman
0.64g-0.82g has been long known to be the maximum amount of protein needed before a severe drop off in diminishing returns. Anything above 0.64g of complete protein/lb of body weight doesn't elicit extra muscle growth and is instead pissed away in urine or used as energy. If carried through the kidneys, they are required to do excess work which may eventually lead to kidney issues. Protein supplements have been shilling 1.0-1.5 all the way to 2.0g for years, and most studies on protein timing use different protein supplements and tend to be funded by said companies.
Protein is a requirement for building muscle, but extreme amounts on a daily basis is harmful. No human, outside of extreme PED users, needs 300g of protein per day.
Benjamin Reed

Your body is tangible proof that what you're doing works. Tell them that and show it to them no homo. And I hate that "if you don't like it then don't read it" crap. First because it encourages only listening to stuff you like instead of stuff that's right. Second because that nonsense is going to reach others and shape their opinion on a subject they know nothing about, like your friends.
Interesting thing I've noticed from my teenage years. Opinions are being supressed, but the outrage is intentionally left to grow. Without realizing it, people soon adopt the one opinion that is allowed to express outrage through just to let out steam. I noticed that with myself at a point where I'd almost completely bought into class warfare and was starting to go down the path of anarchist antiracism despite being racist myself.
Good god, man. And he just had to tell others he is screwing the Ent wives. I guess it makes sense that the only things this looney could have sex with are things that can't run away. Wild guess here, the trees haven't given their vocal consent. He is raping them. He is raping Mother Nature.

That's part of our culture now fuckface

Yes it is. It has links to 35 peer reviewed studies as references. Read all the analysis. examine is a team of scientists who draw conclusions from the major metastudies and put them into one easy to read source.
If you are going to say its not a scientific source again then at least say where in the analysis they are wrong and which studies you think they shouldn't be basing their conclusions off. goddamn.

he also hosts orgies in his house. Though everyone who partakes is ugly I hear. He is polyamorous. He took a lot of hallucinagenics and smoked weed every day for years. Its like they opened his mind way too much and all boundaries got blurred. And I suppose all of his disgust reflex disappeared.
Did you know disgust is strongly linked to political leanings? If you get disgusted you are likely conservative. It makes sense when you think of feminists using periods as art and lefties saying we must fuck transexuals.
