Be serious, does any of you actually do this exercise or is it just a meme? This position is so unnatural and uncomfortable that I have no idea how can anyone focus on lifting hard.

use the smith machine for it

yes, it's in my deadlift program :)

And in my program it used for mass building, 10 reps each set.. not lifting heavy.

i do. Squeeze your back then pull it into your lower belly with your elbows tucked in

It is a very good compound imo. You can do it if your gym doesn't allow full rom deadlift

Your natural and comfortable exercise is sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos.

rows are a staple if you dont do them but do bench and ohp you're dicking yourself

better start adding facepulls to all your workouts before its too late

nah, don't want to jew up my back
i do barbell face pulls on a bench

i just feel like dumbell and cable rows are so much better

I do bodyweight inverted rows with weight added and facepulls for horizontal pulling. Yeah, bent over rows feel like shit when you go heavier.

I've never done barbell rows. But I do heavy dumbbell rows and then do cable rows for higher reps. Also high pulley one arm rows and face pulls because of athlean x. Helps my shit posture.

Barbell rows are shit, and I rarely do them.

Why the fuck aren't you seal rowing?

I recently hear a lot about the seal rows. Are they really that good?

I traded these for T-bar rows in my routine. Feel it in my back much more and I dont feel a strain on my lower back and hips

I did them early on because they seemed easier than powercleans like rippletits suggests but I felt like I couldn’t get a hang of them and replaced them with dumbbell rows, hang cleans, and cable facepulls.

>if your gym doesn't allow full rom deadlift
What the fuck? That doesn’t seem real. Is your gym at your mom’s house or something?

i do it because i want a joocy back, not everything has to be FUNKCHONAL STRENTH

Some gyms targeted at old people that dont wanna commit and they ban loud noises. The best gym in my area in terms of equipment/cleanliness has a strict policy on that. Will probably go to a local gym

I did those for a while just with some dumbbells between my legs, but it got awkward and then I started doing tuck front lever rows. But I'm not really sure how much further I can progress with them. I have added a little weight with some small ankle weights I have but I kinda doubt I can pull off rows with my legs extended out any time soon. How did you add weight, user? Do you use a vest?

I do because I can feel it more in my back than dumbbell rows

>Still do both tho

>old people
>loud noises

like they can fucking hear it anyway

Good for bodybuilding, terrible for athleticism.

It’s a good exercise for beginners

>Squat
>Bench/OHP
>Rows/Deadlift

Agreed.

If you can’t do even 10 chin-ups, you have no business doing the barbell row.

Rip was right when he said that the barbell row is an intermediate assesory exercise. Or the more quotable:

“My opinion about barbell rows is as follows: fuck barbell rows. Really. Fuck them. Stop wasting time worrying about barbell rows and get your deadlift up to 500. By then you'll have your own opinion and you won't have to worry about mine.”

-Rip

BB Rows will do more for your physique than the heaviest deadlift ever could. Not being able to do them with proper form means you have shit ham and glute mobility, as well as a number of other imbalances.

Not your lower belly, your lower chest, think your very top row of abs. This allows you greater rom. You want your elbows as far behind your back or "as high" as possible. I hated barbell rows until I learned this and now I'm building size in my lats, my row is stronger, and it's a simpler lift that it's easier mentally to go harder on because I'm just thinking about tucking my elbows and getting them high. Try them. I'm going to make you a believer user.

post body

Chains and backpack with sand. I workout at home so I gotta be creative with some of the stuff if I want to take care of my wallet.

Yea, pendlays. One of my favourite exercises. I can row more than I bench, but that's partly because I dont really care about bench

rows are pretty based, reverse grip bent over rows are really good for bicep growth and pendlay rows are really good for lats, aid benching and really separate the weak from the strong
regular bent over rows are a bit of a ego lift tbqh though

That's for pendlay. Going that high on a standard row seems like a bad position for your shoulder

They’re great
>terrible for athleticism
>is a strength standard for Olympic wrestling teams
>is an accessory in Oly lifting
does not compute

How do you guys get around hurting you hands when doing heavy weight rows? I swear that my progress is getting hindered because the barbells at my local gym are like sand paper.
Does hook grip works better? Same for deadlift. These motherfuckers are making me consider a glove for the first time.

I do Pendlay rows and weighted chin ups.

Lmao fatty, get out.

>mommy the knurl is too rough
>wants to do hookgrip

Try it and report back with results

I do cheat rows like motherfucker with weights up to 3pl8 and it builds upper back well.
For lats stick to strict tbar rows, pullups, straight arm pulldowns tho

>immediately runs to the gym and does barbell rows

Cope harder, bigger than you and stronger than you :^)

Well you can help or just shitpost like you're doing now. Typical Jow Forums you can't come with a related question and expect a real answer, only memes and shitpost.

I do them because I have shit lats.

I do chinups weighted with 35kg for 4 sets of 6 reps.
Barbell rows for 4 sets of 8 reps, 90kg.
Still I have no lats.

I feel like I get a lot more from pendlays, T bar rows, dumbell rows, and both seated & standing cable rows.

Nonsense. It's the greatest rom you can achieve with your lats and a barbell. You sound like one of those guys who doesn't touch the bar to his chest benching because it's "bad for your shoulder"

No I've just always seen successful lifters touch at or just above their belly buttons during a row. It usually allows for heavier weights and keeps your shoulders out of the lift

dumbbell rows, face down on an incline bench.

I'm literally going to be doing it in 6 hours.

I use it. If you're having trouble keeping balance or holding it you're doing too much weight

Sub maximal rom usually does allow for heavier loads, yes

I wouldn't sacrifice shoulder health for a greater rom. You can simply make it up by doing pendlay after

Clean your room

Yes, giant set style (Brian Alsruhe giant sets) right before bench.

Try rowing to your sternum. Regular rows to the navel area felt awkward as hell for me since I'm a >husky guy with stubby arms.

I had some pretty shitty experience with them when I started out. It felt like my shoulder was about to pop out at the bottom. After that I stopped doing rows and concentrated on chinups. I do plenty of facepulls and I've started doing one arm DB rows which feel way better for me.

Joocy af

I do it once a week. Then I do lat rows on the machine for a volume day.

>Barbell rows for 4 sets of 8 reps, 90kg.
>Still I have no lats.

doesn't this prove they don't work for getting your lats bigger?

i used to row relatively heavy for my strength level but they never gave me the back gains I wanted so I stopped. I only do seated cable rows once in a while. For back I mainly do pull-ups and pull-downs

TLDR: it's good for getting strong but there are much better ways to get your back bigger IMO

Why the fuck do you think your sacrificing shoulder health

enjoy your zero gains faggot

Pendlay row sucks ass. Cailer Woolam suggested deadlifting the bar to above the knee then cheat rowing, and I like that so much more.

I started doing pendlay's rows and cable rows three times a week because I have some rounded shoulders. Is it a good strategy to fix it?

I lied. It's below the knee
youtube.com/watch?v=dyiT2W4KYkQ

Because there's nowhere to set them up in my gym, and Meadows Row works great.

>user talks shit
>Doesn't post (((his))) own body

Seal rows, dumbell rows, lay pull downs, the three I do for back.

Only started seal rows recently and they are great.

Bend over more faggot and stop moving your legs

pendlay rows are great you retard. learn how to do it properly.

Shitty lats, post a back hot so I can laugh harder.

Samefag

substitute it for its machine/cable equivalent. easier to overload w/ straps

The higher end of the rep incorporates more shoulder use at a bad angle. You're going to be flaring your elbows a bit more and holding weight in that position puts pressure on the shoulder. Like flaring your elbows on bench. Unless you're completely bent over because then itd be a pendlay, but a normal bent over row wouldn't accommodate that type of angle. You dont pull cable rows into your sternum so why would you do it with bent over rows

>row thread
>doesn't post back
>instead posts shitty dyel lats and shit genes physique

holy brainlets

the more forward you lean the higher the bar will land. If you do strict pendlay rows you row to your chest area, if you are almost standing straight you row to your belly button. Is this basic anatomy too hard for you to understand? The spot you land the bar is determined by your leverages and the ANGLES

That's what I've been saying

>barbell facepulls on a bench

I dont think you know what face pulls are son. You sure you don't mean seal rows?

You can have your torso at a 45 and pull to two different spots on your torso you fucking idiot

I am really tempted to post a backshot, but I have already defiled myself enough times in order to blow DYELs like you out of the water.

Mine is at my mom's house. She allows full rom deadlifts though

Wish I could do seal rows, but they're such a bitch to set-up with the equipment I have available.

I don't. I feel like I get nothing out of it. I also have a lot of fucking difficulty keeping my wrists straight and seemingly no matter what I do, they tend to curl(?) a bit when I get the bar near my chest. I'm a lanklet if that matters.
I use the horizontal row machine sometimes but I don't know if that is even worthwhile. I should just do dumbbell rows so I need to learn the proper form for that.

These are the people giving you advice on Jow Forums

Try supinated grip. Just remember to do a narrower grip to avoid forearm injuries

This only proves that he is doing both chins and rows with horrible form, barely engaging his back, mostly relying on momentum and traps.

i just use the landmine. i never learned proper rowing technique and it's too late for me to start

That's where your palms are facing down, right? That's what I've been doing actually this entire time. How narrow do you suggest?

Oh sweet child

Facing up Brah

yea, with my back perfectly paralel with the ground, 80kg on the bar and a long as stretch at the bottom, goat lat builder.

Attached: ahrg.jpg (540x304, 36K)

Post your bodies right now you keyboard warrior faggots. I bet he looks better than every single one of you

I always use underhand, I feel it hits the lats better. I still do overhand though for the real delts etc but not as much

allthingsgym com/things-i-think-i-know-barbell-rows/
I stopped doing pendlays after 2.5 plates cause it was hurting my lower back or I was cheating tooo much ,switched to db rows

Attached: cringe.jpg (1080x793, 119K)

>I was cheating too much
>The lift must suck, it's not me

How to improve back?

Attached: B8D60151-9696-423E-942A-8384937361A7.jpg (750x1334, 53K)

I deadlift 600lbs you fucking DYELs.

Mine doesn't even have power racks. Only smith machines. 3 to 1 ratio of cardiobunnies - men though

I do landmine pulls (idk if that's the proper name). Seems like basically the same movement but I find it more comfortable. It's one of my favourite lifts actually.

If you don't live in the ghetto or california then yeah, nearly every chain gym with only a few exceptions will forbid deadlifts to some degree.
Not so bad for suburbanites, who ought to invest in some home equipment, really bad for those who live in nicer apartments.

Well actually this is Arnold's favourite lift and he laments that you don't see it any more. Sad you won't make it user ;_;

look at this guy's legs. he's clearly using them big time to help get the bar up. is that acceptable when doing rows?
