How do I motivate myself to put my phone down and pick up a book?

How do I motivate myself to put my phone down and pick up a book?

First step: turn it off.
Come back when you're done.

it's probably impossible and you know it.

it's over, your life is a meme you literally can't put down your screen and read a book

what's that like? to be powerless and pathetic? Stacie is reading away after suckign off chad at college she's on her way to a degree.

but you, you can't fucking do shit.

read

books

on

your

phone

also; read the first letter in every line

there is no one who can give you substantial advice on this issue OP. You simply must have enough willpower to control yourself

there is no advice anyone can give you, you just have to force yourself to do it

ironically i didn't proof-read that before i posted and messed up the acronym

>rboypa
what in the fuck is that user

yeah, i messed up - don't include the 'O'

unironically this. I tried to get into literature but failed miserably. My attention span is fried, I'm too stupid, I just gave up

or the 'A' because that's a separate line telling you to read the first letter of every preceding line

>rbyp
i am still lost user
are you ok?

> are you ok?

yeah, been awake for nearly 24hours now, so i'm a little loopy, but you srsly don't know what the acronym RBYP means?

what are they teaching you kids these days?

You can't. You're a weak willed faggot who can't pay attention to any one thing for more than five minutes. You ruined your own attention span forever and there's nothing you can do to truly fix it.

no never heard it before
also I've never really used any other forums

>telling OP to read before he posts
You might actually be retarded. Go see a doctor.

welp, guess i don't know my audience like i thought

I feel you 100%, my attention span is fucked. Do you believe phones and the oversaturation (and overload to learn) of information causes this?

think about this kid, if he spent his time reading before telling us he can't into reading, he'd be reading right now and not having me poop-poastan all over his nice thread

it's just common sense

If you don't seem to have time to read, try audio books. I have listened to the Prince twice. It still is relatable to today's world happenings and politics. What is happening in Syria, for example, is following the playbook of Machiavelli.
One way to conquer a country is to displace its population.

>Get a library card
>Hire out books from the library
>Feel pressured to return them In three weeks as to not be overdue to save speaking to the librarian qt on the phone
>Return them feeling satisfied you managed to read a book in three weeks
>Repeat and carry on to the next book

By all means going to and from a library is not ideal yet if you have time to do so you will save money and grant your life a sense of meaning in going to the library and of course will give you a chance to talk to qt librarians.

But if he could read he wouldn't be posting this. You're basically telling a suicidal guy to just stop being sad.

he's reading our tired little interaction as we speak, but he could have done something more productive couldn't he?

but no, he started this thread which is currently stealing all his attention while we go back and forth with you trying to gain some imaginary upper-hand like you can actually win something important when arguing with a non who messes up simple acronyms like RBYP and and that's why he should have read before he posted

There's an audio reading of the prince on youtube if you can't gather the motivation otherwise. Other books of this theme too.

>tfw he will never be your advisor
>tfw he will never share secrets of human nature with you
Fuck this gay earth

Start with little blocks of reading time. Like 5 or 10 min, then do something else. Put little blocks throughout the day until it gets easier, then start extending the time. If you are NEET or just don't have to immediately do something after waking up, try reading before you use your phone in the day. Read for 10 min after this post. Another 10 min in 1 hr from now on.

>By all means going to and from a library is not ideal

But over time it may become a very comfy ritual. Like going shopping but for free. I'd do it more but I've been spoiled by libgen and irc, and while I like the physical feel of a book, the selection and availability is too good to pass up. Still, now I wanna get a new library card just for the comfort.

Aye even if you never use it just grab one for the sake of being able to get free books, as after all we are all bound to fall upon hard times skint as fuck with no money.

So why not be prepared and able to get free shit like books, or even go as far to buy the books you really want to read and rent the books you sort of want to read but not quite that way your saving money snd not being shitty books you most likey won't want to read.

where can one get books/graphic novels??

first of all, don't place all your reading potential on reading one type of book. i can't really read fiction anymore but i like philosophy and new media books. if at all possible, try to find books that purport to refer to "real life" type of current events because that way you can bring your own experiences into interpreting the work. like you could start with nagle's "kill all normies" and gradually move on to books about topics you know nothing about. another thing i do is underline important parts of the text to reaffirm the author's argument but be careful to not underline too much.

user, The Prince is like 100 fucking pages. Just shut off your electronics and do it it will take you two hours at most even if you're retarded.

If you want free books, libgen.io is great. It's the biggest pirate book repository I can think of. IRC is also decent. Maybe mobilism in a pinch

I'd add another 30min for a good summary and analysis to follow along with

This user mentioned block of reading time, but I believe it is more effective to set yourself a minimum number of pages that you will read per day. Start with 10 or maybe even 5. Whatever you will actually do. As you get more comfortable you can increase the daily page goal. If you were to read 30 pages a day, in 10 days you will have read a 300 page book. Good luck.
