How do I get into MTG in this day and age? I haven't played in god knows how long so all my decks are super out of date. Do people just play digitally now or what? Also has anything come out since that tops this absolute monster? I could never believe a card could be ths good.

I remember playing phyrexian obliterate in standard. Good days. I play modern since I've been collecting since my lanklet days. If not, standard is pretty healthy right now, just look up a list and mog everyone at your LGS. Don't be one of those faggots that only plays commander.. playing mtgo is pretty close to as expensive as paper, especially if you have no collection. If you have some old cards, go to an LGS and try to trade for some modern or standard shit

Pick a format, find a deck you like, and try it on XMage. Ignore MTGO completely, it's almost as shitty as XMage and it costs money.

The problem is that some people will come in with a mishmash or dick around which is fun and then some people bring no fun allowed meta decks and don't want to play free for all

Standard now is infinitely better than Kaladesh or Amonkhet, no more Temur Energy or Tamunap Red. But you're not wrong, standard is always the worst format. Easy to buy into though

From what I've heard from standard players, if you go second and the opponent plays a mountain you might as well concede. Red is basically tier 0 in standard right now.

A Standard deck costs as much as some tier 2/3 modern decks, and has constant upkeep costs, along with the risk that your deck and almost every card in it becomes worthless when one card cycles and nothing new fills the void.
