I just bought a 27mm deadlift bar for my home gym, and holy shit, deadlifting is so much easier with that, compared to my 29mm power bar.
Why the FUCK isn't this in the sticky?

Because unless you intend to compete on one, you'll get more out of a regular bar.
I guess it might be nice to see my deadlift climb a few kg higher, but I'm not willing to pay $500 for what is essentially an ego boost, not unless I'm stalling hard or something.
Rather just use my power bar and buy something cooler
ok incel
Because bendy bars are cheating, man. Especially so if you're competing since they'll use very stiff bars as competition. I'm talking like 545lbs and the bar hardly gives.
>incel
I'm not the one who increases his lifts with better equipment rather than better programming / more effort.
Kinda jelly of your bar, but I'm not willing to pay for one
I actually wanted a bar specfically for deadlifting for the reason that I didn't want to bench pressing and squatting with a bar that ive been deadlifting with....
youtube.com
Video related happened because the bar is damaged from deadlifts.
btfo he will never recover
reddit wins again
Holy balls
What the fuck happened there
Was that retard using suicide grip or something?
No PL meets that I'm aware of use super stiff bars for deadlifting. It's either a bendy as fuck deadlift bar or a generic power bar. You don't see them breaking out the axles or the 55lb squat bars for pulling.
No. He had normal grip.
The problem is the bar was damaged from deadlifts.
This is why it is NOT a good idea to bench press with the same bar that you deadlift with.
I dunno what to tell you man but pic related is about 540 and it's a screenshot from a video of me at collegiate nationals.
Likely. Every time I watch a gym video and he suicide grips it I know what's about to happen.
Fuck man, now I gotta drop ANOTHER half grand on my home gym.
Can you tell me more specifically what happened? The bar was bent or something?
Bar looked a lot more whippy than a power bar.
Also not sure something like an Ohio bar with a life time no-bend guarantee would bend permanently
Wow. I'm retarded. I forgot to add the image.
Not IPF approved :^)
Nothing cool is IPF approved
Those guys need to get their shit together
Yeah, that's a normal power bar. The super-stiff bars usually don't have any visible bend at that kind of weight.
Also if you're outside the IPF they'll more than likely have a deadlift bar.
Its not just the whip, its the 27mm diameter. Its on -2mm but it does a lot for your grip.
The whip + -2mm diameter is what makes your deadlift easier to perform
I don't see why you're worried about spending extra money, you lift every week, and you will lift every week for the rest of your life, there's literally no reason to be a cheap cunt about your lifting when it's a primary activity in your life.
People waste thousands of dollars on drinks every year, why the fuck would you cheap out on an important piece of your primary activity?
Oh I see... huh. Well shit that'd boost my max by at least 20 pounds.
The super-aggressive knurling helps as well. Easy to hang onto but it'll tear up your hands in a hurry if you aren't careful.
>cheat bar
>why is it easier?
i wonder why, just use a swimming pool noodle, you don't even have to be able to move the weight and you can deadlift a million
It might, it might not. I've seen people get a ton out of deadlift bars and I've seen people pull less with them. The whip takes some getting used to and it tends to help less the higher up you usually miss.
It also doesn't matter in powerlifting but those things can be nightmares to hitch on. once they start whipping around they'll drag you all over the place.
>cheat bar
Uh so why do all the record holding deadlifters all tell you to buy a deadlift specific bar if you're serious about your deadlift?
oh its c-che-cheating. You're being a nit picking internet kuck
As long as it gets off the ground it's going up. Im really strong on lockout.
Who ever fails a deadlift once its off the floor?
I swear every deadlift Ive ever failed was because I either couldn't move it off the floor, or not an inch off the floor. Once you get the thing moving it never fails (unless you're deadlifting at 100%+)
Because they compete in feds that use a deadlift bar. Gotta get used to what you'll do on the platform.
Well you've got good grip.
I've almost dropped a dead because my grip almost gave out once I hit the top
A ton of people. Usually people miss right at the floor, just around knee height or right at lockout (usually because they can straighten out the hips and knees but not the upper back).
You'd actually be surprised, my man. The 1st and 3rd top guys in my weight class struggle with lockouts. 3rd guy especially. His grip is horrible.
>the bar is damaged from deadlift
what the fuck does that even mean and how would it affect his lifts. Hes trying to bench like 500 lbs and it slipped passed his thumbs because you cant hold that weight on a single digit
Gym barbells are dropped and damaged by deadlifts. This renders the bar spin function fucked, the entire bar spins instead of just the plates which are only meant to spin.
When the bar is damaged from deadlifts the bar the can spin out of your hands on a press
This is only an issue if the bar is actually bent (no, seriously, you can bench just fine with an axle and they're far worse for not spinning because they have no sleeves in the first place). Which far more often comes from people leaving their weights loaded than from deadlifting.
No you won't stupid faggot. Stiff bars are way more dangerous on your back and not nearly as good for hypertrophy since breaking it from the floor is ridiculous
Youre probably super hip and back dominant with bad hamstring activation. Your back likely rounds then unrounds at the top. This is more risky but effective, its how i used to deadlift before a coach pointed it out for me. Did sldl and hammy curls (just to feel the muscle) and it fixed that weak point. Im even more explosive off the floor now.
>27mm
Isnt that a girls bar? I thought oly bars are 28mm and everything is bigger.
I hate the whip on deadlift bars. I've been trying to get used to it for 2-3 months now but I'm always short of my RM by 20-50 lbs when I use my gym's Ohio DL bar.
Are these just better for sumo lifters?
Because they're expensive and a one use thing. I love using them at my gym, but whenever I get a home gym I'll just have a regular powerbar
Doesn’t make sense. The diameter is smaller, you should be pulling more regardless of whip, purely because of the smaller diameter.
Pendlay Row with a DL bar? Yay or nay?
Should be fine. DL bar I have has no noticeable whip or bend until about 405, if you're doing strict pendlay rows with 405 quit posting on fit and enter world's strongest man
If I'm going to do rows after I DL I usually don't even change bars
Cheers cunt
Gona test it next Monday
you're a retard
the bar is not damaged from deadlifts
the bar is bent and this causes it to "want" to sit a specific way (with the bend facing upward)
deadlifts dont damage bars dropping from overhead, ot dropping the bar onto safeties or other shit liek that is what damages bars
Oh my slut if you call me an idiot again I’ll suck your dick so hard it will become degloved.
I think this is the accurate response. After once nearly having a disaster squatting with a slightly bent bar that forced itself to roll off my back I'm always careful about bent bars. I do think heavy as fuck deadlifts will bend a bar as much as Crossfit fucks who throw the bar down at the gym
He should have had these digits
Mate you can get up to 4pl8 deadlift without ever needing your own personal bar. That’s why it’s not in the sticky.
