Thing is you also have to take into account who the users of these services are; normalfags, and their taste in music/film/TV is about as wide as my tiny cock, I see normalfags going on about Netflix/Spotify like it's some holy grail of movies/music but they don't actually watch or listen to a lot of variety in the first place so they don't bother questioning how much content is actually on there.

Independent artists that put their stuff on bandcamp, lots of techno labels, lots of house music, barely any japanese music, especially older stuff, older music in general, world music, stuff that was only released on cassette, etc. It's got a good selection if you're a normie. I don't expect a streaming service to have all that stuff anyway.

It has plenty of the obscure artists I like and it lets me download shit so I can listen to it on the plane or when my shitty internet is down so I like it. Yeah it doesn't have absolutely everything but that's due to copyright issues and what the owner of the music allows them.

one of the main points of spotify is creating playlist and sharing them and getting recommend new music based on what you listen to. that's probably why it is so big compared to other equally shitty music streaming services. not saying it is worth paying for it though.
