just learn how to do the roll of shame and you'll never need a spot
1. are you retarded?
2. you bench as much weight as you can and if you struggle, you finish the rep and make a break
use your will to live to not fail
but at very high weights wont that hurt you?
Why don't you just get there first.
You'll find out how to deal with it along the way.
I honestly don't get why it's a roll of shame, it shows you did everything you possibly could.
Unless it's a one rep max of course. That might be 'shameful' or whatever faggots who care about others' opinions call it.
I always bench in the curling rack with those safety bars in place. I push myself as hard as I can on bench press, so failing a rep is not uncommon.
i mean it certainly wont feel good but it wont hurt you.
I have thus bench press set that has these little catch bars in case you bail out. My lifts are way higher knowing that I can set the weight down if I need to.
the only rack with any safety stuff at my gym is the squat rack
should i just do it there?
Do you bench very high weights?
I honestly believe that moving a heavy bar over your face is not worth the risk. It happens. People drop the bar and crush their fuckin faces and necks.
OHP exists. It's a safer and more useful heavy compound. It doesn't injure your shoulders or require a spotter. Also it impresses people more than bench. And gives you the godly traps and delts bitches crave.
Develop chesticles via deficit/weighted pushups, flyes, dips, and yes, machines. Bench is an unnecessary risk.
Refute this, Jow Forums
>protip: you can't
Yes
OHP doesn't hit the lower/middle chest as well as benching does. retard.
Bench is pretty pointless especially if you’re doing weighted dips.
>t. poverty bench
Barbells scare the everloving shit out of me. Deadlifts are ok. I use an assisted squat machine too but dumbbells are so much nicer.
I have no problem with squats
squat racks always have bars so if you fail you can just sit down and you'll be fine
never, ever, ever gonna make it.
>using the smith machine
Enjoy never building your supporting muscles.
>Develop chesticles via deficit/weighted pushups, flyes, dips, and yes, machines
or instead of doing all of those, you can just bench. which is superior in every way to all of those you just listed.
wont people bitch?
just do both you imbecile
One of the reasons those bars are there is so you don't die. If you feel like you might die benching then you should be benching in the rack, no matter what people say.
Not worth doing by yourself. Even then you can't bench with safety pins and being the bar to your chest. Just use db's.
Bench in the squat rack and set the safety pin height to just below your chest
I have the safety bars in place every time I bench and I get the bar to my chest. When I fail a rep I rest the bar over my stomach and the safety bars catch it
Be strong enough to lift the weight
arent you supposed to set the pins to catch when you go flat?
>still has a spotter
Fuck that would piss me off.
>his gym doesn't have benches with adjustable safeties
>but at very high weights wont that hurt you?
I've dumped, rolled and zerchered up 330lbs three times now and 345lbs once.
Only hurt a bit once on a 330, since I sat up too early and the bar bumped up on my illiac crests.
>over your face
This is your fucking problem.
My gym only has one power rack.
Only other option is Smith machine.
So I just go when no ones there and bench in the power rack and set the safeties low. That way if I fail I can just drop it or lower it onto the safeties and not have to roll out.
fag. Barbells are god-tier. The only thing more satisfying than lifting heavy ass barbells is submitting some cholo with an armbar.
That's a hype man.
He's supposed to yell at you so you get it up at the point of no return, or what would be the point of no return if the catches weren't there.
Dumbells!
fpbp
I've personally done it with 245 and was fine, I did the rest of my workout no problem. This dude did it 347 and was fine afterwards. You can also try not being a pussy.
>wasting all that time setting up and cleaning up BB bench
>not just using db
What a waste of time
>Bumped on iliac crests
OW
I've done the roll of shame three times. I'm still under 2pl8 now.
>tfw i exclusively PR at times with nobody but me in the gym
really, i think the last time i dumped was 335 and my left shoulder (the side the weight catapulted to) hurt for about a month.
My bar is resting on two chairs and I start a set by pushing it up, so even if I fail I wont get beheaded
If you ever get to big boy dumbbells you will realize it's much easier loading plates on a racked barbell then it is deadlifting 250+ lbs just to start your dumbbell set.
i did this with 62kg, it's risky but at the time all i could think of was if i drop it on my ribs i'm going to crush my ribs or i can push it over my head and slide under super fast, i scraped my head as i slid under. honestly, i was about 63kg at the time and very lean with little fat, i understand people saying to roll it ontop of themselve but for a skeleton that doesn't seem plausible and it is way too heavy. if i have enough strength to lower it slowly and safely on myself and roll it down then i hvae enough strength to finish the rep in the first place, if you put in all your strength in the final rep and have nothing left you have no strenght to safely lower it and roll it off, so crush ribs or push over head and slide under fast as can.
what i learnt is if you hesitate before a final rep best not to do it at all, i'm improving my bench by 1kg increments after 60kg now and making sure it never happens again. i upped the weight too fast, i just hit 60kg the workout before then went for 62kg and in my mind i believed i could lift it but my body couldn't push it up all the way.
very true. the worst part is having to seated-clean the weight into position. after about 3 sets my shoulders are gone.
What makes it even worse is when you only have dumbbells that go up in 10 lb increments.
One progression in dumbbell bench means going up in 20 lbs total.
I can do sets of five with the 130s and to me it's not worth the hassle of lifting the 140s if I can only do 2 reps once I get in position.
You can fall back on OHP and kill someone though.
yeah i agree. i'm more in need of a spotter/lift off for dumbbell bench than regular bench
10,000 normie lives are not worth one user's fingernail
have a power rack
Reminds me of friday
>At the gym later than usual, completely empty
>Feeling good and think i'm ready to move up 10 pounds on each side of bench
>Almost 2 plates on bench smith machine
>After 4th rep can't make it back up and struggling
>I took out the safety things so the bar is hovering above my chest
>Use my will to live and somehow manage to arch my back and barely get it up
This.
I'm sure my ghost wouldn't feel too bad if I died benching 4pl8s.
>benching with a smith machine
Is this bait
nope, theres no normal bench at my gym, thinking about switching gyms eventually tho
Do weighted dips tho so hopefully it counteracts the smith bench
Bench in the power cage.
>go to the squat/power rack
>set safety bars to a bit over your chest
>If you fail, the safety bars will catch the barbell
>middle chest
This, but also bench with safeties in a rack. Personally, I always leave a rep in the tank so I can go heavy alone.
Yes. It'll hurt your pride
If you cannot finish the rep and the bar is now resting on your chest, should you ever rest and then attempt to push it up again or just roll it off every time?
Don't use clips. That way if you fail the rep, you can tilt the bar to one side and have the weights fall off. But if you are really not confident about the weight you are using, ask for a spot or use lighter weight.
>bench in the squatrack
Safer to just roll it.
Never bench to failure. Leave a rep in the tank.
DO NOT USE THE ROLL OF SHAME FOR HEAVY WEIGHTS
it can kill you
Rippetoe cited this story where a guy rolled the weight over his stomach and it pushed down so far that it raptured an artery and the guy bled to death from eternal bleeding
use safety pins or a spotter
always
>Eternal bleeding
The doctors were baffled. Some say he's still bleeding, to this very day.
Underrated
What the fuck? Just don't put clips on the bar and tip the weight off if you fail. Why doesn't every one do this?
I don't understand why not everyone is using this method
just ask someone to spot u if ur worried. i ask and have been asked multiple times, never a big deal.
Had to scroll a long way to find a post mentioning clips. This is the only post that matters. Thank you user.
Profoundly bad way to fling heavy weight I imagine. Never tried it though.
I think dumbbells are the correct answer.
>don’t use clips
>dip the bar to the left
>2pl8s slid off and hit the guy next to me doing inclines
>I’m warned by staff not to do this again
>it happens again
>I’m kicked out of the gym
Best to use them lads.
Use a power rack with safeties in
Do they not have a dedicated bench? And if that's is it, it's their fault putting the equipment too close together
Better getting kicked out of the gym than dying
Eternal kek bruh
>not wanting the fear of death to motivate you
>not wanting to hallucinate the grim reaper saying “bet you can’t do it, faggot” on your last rep
Bench whatever and just don't have the clips on. So if you fail and are close to death, you can roll and let the weights fall off.
Going to the gym with friends is for women and gays.
