Why do customers treat service workers poorly?

Just by looking at the picture, it's not even that infuriating that the customer is so far from the window, it's the fact that the asshole behind him thinks it's funny and decides to take photos of it.

Yes. If you work customer service a lot of people of different backgrounds are rude. It's not just black people. No one is rude for no reason. Customers are people with jobs and no one gets good jobs by being a jerk to everybody. They have friends and a family. Customers are only rude when:
-service is slow
-you are too energetic
-shake machine isn't working
-parking lot/dining room is dirty
-your store is out of something
-you look like you don't want to be there
-you are rushing them or you sound rude
-you are taking too long to finish the order (you're upselling the new promo item, asking if they want dessert when it's clear they finished their order, asking if you got the order right)
-you aren't speaking clearly
-you interrupt them
-you don't realize when they are done ordering
-you take their long silence as a sign that they are done ordering

Every customer is different and you go to read the subtle signs to learn how to treat them without pissing them off. Learn when not to be overly nice or bubbly and learn when to be super friendly.

When there's an excess amount of feces, urine, or blood it becomes the manager's job to clean it up because they have some form of hazmat training and access special cleaning equipment. It's not an associate's job to clean up that sort of mess.

Generally speaking OP it's just because they can. They can be as much of a dick as they want and you can't say anything back, because you have to be polite and professional. There are a lot of reasons, but I think this is the biggest one. Take a police officer on the other hand. He's also working a shitty, no-skill, low-paid job. He's a public servant, a glorified bureaucrat, he's working for YOU the taxpayer. But people are a lot more reluctant to be assholes to cops because the cop can actually do something about it.

I'm a bartender/waiter in a fancy shmancy hotel and very rarely wait on blacks but last night I had this really old as shit black couple who were on their 40th anniversary and they were honestly one of the best tables I've ever had. They were very old though and probably liked seeing a young white boy taking their orders and not being a dick about it but still, they were really nice.

I love talking to the service people and waitors and waitresses and when getting haircuts. It helps me practice my social skills without having to be close to the average person. Plus they have no choice but to talk back.

-ordered food in a way that our machines don't have a button for (you want sauce on both buns or you want the vegetables layered in a different way or you want some special sauce or you are ordering off menu items)
-you got here when it was busy
-you got here when we are understaffed (there is only a fry cook and cashier )
-you ordered a sandwich "with mayo" even though it comes with mayonnaise

if it's not the cashier's fault, then it's grill for reading the monitor clearly . Special orders aren't highlighted on the screen so it can be easy to miss things like "no mustard" especially when it's busy and grill is trying to make everything fast as possible. Mustard gets put on by habit.

$8 for a sandwich, fries, and a drink which is only one meal vs $8 for the ingredients for potroast/soup/curry which can last you 2-3 days.

If your carwindow isn't working you probably shouldn't be going to drive through because:

-we can't hear you if your door is opened and your cardoor is blocking the microphones
-it makes it difficult to hand out your food
-it makes it difficult to take your money

The window sill is lubricated on a daily basis to make it easier to open the window. If we have to lean over to hand you your stuff we get our shirts stained by the lube and it's super difficult to get it off. We often have to buy new shirts when this happens.

But I like the convenience plus you guys defnitely prioritize the drive through just sayin.

If you are sitting in the dining area next to the front door and you see someone with a scooter park and quickly run in without turning off their bike , hide your run because they are most likely there to steal your phone and drive off.

Fast food is only shitty when you have a low performing store so you aren't allowed to have more than 3-4 people working at the same time. Fast food is super cozy when you have a full staff, working equipment, and people can actually do their job with no problems. Health inspections are always horrible experiences because everything has to be cleaned right away and you are expected to serve customers while all the equipment isn't in operation.
