Are lat raises a meme? I want to build up my lats for that upside down triangular shape (currently only have visible lats when I raise my arms). It seems like this exercise doesn't do much though, the lats are such big muscles and lat raises are hard to do even with 20lb dumbells. Will such a low weight exercise actually build lats up?
Are lat raises a meme...
I'm not baiting, I've been told that this exercise will build lats. Please help me understand, I'm a new fag but I'm currently way more fit than the average fag but not quite hitting 1/2/3/4 yet.
Working up to 1/2/x/y and just these days starting to take deadlifting and squatting seriously. They're intimidating exercises, 3 and 4 plates is fuckin scary.
if you're strong like you say you are, you should be able to lat raise 50 lbs per arm. it will smoke your latissimus dorsi bud, make you flying squirrel mode.
Not strong yet, man. I genuinely could not do double lat raises with 25lb dumbbells, not trolling you.
>OHP: 105lb
>Bench: 165lb, doing low rep sets with 175lb these days
>Squat: 165lb
>Deadlift: 115lb
I'll start doing these lat raises more frequently, we'll see how it goes.
I'm pretty sure they're called lat raises because you raise your arm laterally, not because it works your latissimus. Works your deltoids.
>Squat and Deadlift intimidating
With solid technique you only have like a 10% chance of injury tops. Very likely you'll make the lift if you choose appropriate weights.
look at this troll. fuck off with your broscience dude
the higher you raise it the more lateral it is, the more it works
>If you do it perfectly, there's a 1/10 chance you'll become injured
That is not reassuring in the slightest.
OOOOOK. Listen here, buddy. You are confused. Very confused. I know they are called "lateral raises" and your "lats" sound similar, but the exercise works a completely different muscle group, which is your deltoids. But yeah, if you want bigger deltoids, use them as an accessory to other deltoid exercises, such as the overhead press and upright rows.
Also, you shouldn't raise your arm above 90 degrees if you're lifting weights without rotating it medially. The articular surface of your humerus isn't shaped that way.
OP you're being trolled, don't be confused by these two
I think it may be closer to 5% but Im being generous since most people (myself included) have crap for technique.
Lets say your form is bad -- you'll probably develop some form of "tendonitis" before you snap your shit up. Gives time to correct and prepare yourself for heavier lifts.
To be fair, the bench is just a grind sto e on your shoulders.
Yep, I see now. Thanks guys.
Good point. Is lifting a one-way ticket to hellish arthritis?
>I want to build up my lats
raises are shoulder exercises. You want rows.
Powerlifting is a one way ticket to hellish arthiritis.
Strength training and bodybuilding will prevent their issues as well, but less so.
All physical activity gives the body wear and tear but the benefits outweigh the damage that inactivity and obesity cause.
You wouldn't leave a car to rust in a barn would you?
just in case its not bait dont listen to this lol
For lateral raises always go low weight and never let your arm be completely vertical during your set.
They're pretty effective, also the only exercise I can't do heavy without it feeling like my arms are going to fall off after the first 5 reps.
Checked.
What's your a/b/c/d and how much weight do you use for lat raises?
Completely true. You've got to supinate your wrist and arm in order to use the more inferior surface of the humerus's articular surface to lift it safely higher than your shoulder.

>I'm currently way more fit than the average fag
Have you not been anywhere except your home and your gym in the past 5 years? I don't understand how you could think that the average adult male is fit.
no, you should train at all rep ranges to get the most out of muscle growth( 5 reps, 8-12 reps, 15 reps)
I'm doing OHP 3x5, seated dbb press 4x10, lat raises 3x12 and face pulls I was doing 15 reps but switched to 3x12 for time management reasons
you deadlift a little over 100 lbs OP. unfit women do better than that on their first day in the gym. you think you're better than average, but you're not. average male certainly has high BF%, but with that fat comes some muscle and strength, much more than you have after a sedentary unhealthy life.
also you're a brainlet who thought lateral raises were for your latissimus dorsi.
Is this the broscience general thread?
Unfit women do not do better than that on their first day, lol. I already said that I'm only just starting to incorporate deadlifting into my routine.
>Your dumb because you didn't inherently know the muscle groups a certain exercise works
I obviously felt that it doesn't hit the lats hence I asked about it. Damn, why are you even replying to me? Must be pretty fukkin insecure to get off to flaming novices on Jow Forums. Get a life, faggot.
literally brought my sedentary skinnyfat girlfriend to workout at homegym and on her first day was deadlifting 1plate for many 5-8 reps. you're a skeletor and a brainlet, come to terms with it
Fuck off with your fancy science words nerd. Lats means back bro!
