Yes, it literally is, but don't expect to do a whole lot of exercise or lifting on /nocarb/. It's good to jumpstart weight loss, but eventually you'll plateau then you need to transition onto a different diet and exercise more.

But it's when your body's glycogen stores get depleted and there's no carbs or sugar coming in. Your body switches from burning glucose to burning ketones and breaking down the existing fat for energy.
This is why people go on CICO with carbs and feel sick or really hungry and irritable. Look up the Minnesota Starvation experiment; people got below their TDEE in carbs only and pretty much went insane.
I've been fasting for 40 hours now and I don't even feel hungry. This is because once your body adjusts to not having food, your levels of ghrelin (what makes you feel hungry) go way down. If I had instead eaten let's say, 200 calories of fruit, I would be extremely hungry and not go into ketosis.
I've lost 15 pounds in a week doing this (water fasting and one meal a day). At first I thought it was just water weight and I'd put it right back on after I broke my fast. But the day after I finally ate, I was actually down a pound.
CICO is definitely and always true, but your body responds to "no food" and "a little bit of food" in much different ways.
