Shaving thread

How the fuck do I not get razor burn?

My current shaving routine

>use beard clippers to get rid of most of the growth
>wash face with warm water
> apply shaving cream
>use new disposable razor
>shave with the grain of the hair
>wash face then do skin care routine etc

Get razor burn on my neck

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to upgrade to a more expensive razor?

what kind of blade do you use?

buy a safety razor and don't look back

get one of the electric razors with the three little circular blades on top

im gonna shave right now

Simply stop shaving with a fucking rock. How do you even get razor burn? I use warm water constantly while shaving so maybe that's why I've never had that problem.

absolutely this.

Fuck no, electric razors are god awful!
Just look at pic related...

Left is safety razor, right is electric razor.

Safety razor or straight razor

What kind of shaving cream do you use? Switching to this stuff helped a lot with my razorburn.

Safety razor, clean shaves and cheap blades. Would never use clippers or disposable razors again

I use a cutthroat razor. Steep learning curve , you can seriously injure yourself but once you learn how to use it, it's a great shave.

I'm a broke uni student so this is all I've been able to afford lately.

Is a safety razor more cost-effective than cheap disposable razors?

Attached: IMG_4785.jpg (4032x3024, 1.92M)

shit genetics
I use a shit gillette blade and shave with, sideways and against the grain, all over the face. Smooth shaves throughout nigger.

>Tfw when your deadbeat dad was never around to teach you how to shave properly :,(

Attached: IMG_3963.jpg (389x379, 31K)

Remove the strips, they do more harm than good. I use gillette foam, it really lathers up and makes me look like pic related before I start shaving. Shaving gel and other crap never works for me. If your face isn't covered fully like that then you're doing it wrong. Try that out, shaving foam is cheap as shit.

Attached: brush_gentleman_lather.jpg (400x455, 19K)

you can buy a razor for 20 bucks and 200 blades for another 20

get the gillette with 2 lubrication strips so you have more room for error

shit is so nice I go against the grain and I don't get razor burn

>Is a safety razor more cost-effective than cheap disposable razors?
100% yes. You only have to buy one razor for your entire life, then the blades are like $0.10 each. One sharp blade is way better than 5 dull blades. You can get around to buying the brush and shaving soap and all that, I personally like to run a boar brush under hot water then brush it across all the hairs on my face. Helps the hair soften so it's easier to cut. Plus you'll never need the scam that is exfoliating cream, since you're doing that every time you shave.

Cut downward first.
Clean with warm water.
Apply shaving cream again.
Cut upward.

That's it

Anyone know a good way of getting rid of razor burns? I was shaving the area above my crotch and below my belly button and ended up with some minor scarring.

quit having sensitive skin like a bitch

I recently bought a safety razor thinking that it would give me a closer shave, but it turns out that a regular disposable is better for that. I've looked up tutorials on how to shave on YouTube, but to no avail. Any tips from my fellow Anons?

This. Disposable razors are a HUGE scam. And all those extra blades fuck up your skin more. Imagine being able to control how many passes you do with a razor instead of insta-gibbing your fucking face with 20 fucking blades. Imagine that one razor actually being sharp and doing the job.

Use cold water.

use warm water

This. lol at shaving with cold water, you splash that on your face after you've shaved.

I've been thinking about getting a safety razor instead of shaving with disposables because I only grow hair above my upper lip and a little on my chin, is it still worth it?

Here is my routine and I never get razor burn:
1. Wash face with warm-hot water for 5 minutes to soften the grain.

2. Apply shaving cream to my face ( I like the gel from Nivea)

3. Shave with the grain and then shave against it. Every 4-5 strokes while shaving against the grain I wipe the blade and keep it dry( not rinse the blade! Otherwise applying water to shaved areas will cause irritation)

Hope that helps man.

idk man, my stepdad swears all his skin problems went away when he got a decent electric razor. my roommate shaves with a straight razor and he always has razor bumps

yes

Shave in the shower. Put shampoo in your hair, shave, and then rinse your face and scalp at the same time. You'll have less irritation and it saves time.

For aftershave I've been using Pacific Shaving's caffeinated aftershave and am really happy with it. If you don't want that then go the drugstore and get a generic oil-free moisturizer to put on your face afterwards.

Loosen up the razor and grasp firmly.
Should change the angle of the razor.

Shave after finishing shower, use your gf hair conditioner as shaving cream. Rinse off when done.

Try safety razor.

And some after shave.

I don't think safety razors work better than a decent disposable for closeness. There 90% as good for 10% of the cost of a disposable razor.

Mostly depends on skin in order to not really get razor burn. Some guys in the military actually get a 'no shave chit' because shaving fucks their shit up bad.

I have tough skin, so I don't lather anything. Still get bumps from time to time, but that's from not showering first.

>take shower
>lather up
>have a decent razor
>shave with the grain first
>shave against the grain afterwards
>knock the hair out after a few strokes

I use a can of air to blow out the hair from between my blades so that I don't have to run water over them. I've stretched out my blades a long time that way. I don't think I've bought any in over a year.

Here’s the solution:
For a lot of people, the hair on the bottom of your neck grows in a different direction than the rest. What you think is “with the grain” for the rest of your face and neck, may not be for your problem areas. I fixed this by shaving the opposite direction on the bottom of my neck. Try feeling the way your stubble flows on the top of your neck vs the bottom, i bet it’s different.

two tricks i use to make shaving easy and simple:
youtube.com/watch?v=5ADaRIqy0Dc
do this to keep your razors sharp for months. yeah it's an old fat guy but i shave 3-4 times a week and buy razors maybe once a year.

that and shave in the shower.

If you have to start with electric clippers you are probably going too long between shavings. Start shortening the time between days until you never go more than two or three days, then your skin should get used to it.

Bruv get one of these if you got the money. its replaced all my other shit, absolutely no irritation

Attached: 50845016_Alt10.jpg (520x520, 16K)

This shit work good around the edge of your jaw bone and your neck? Thats where I always get razor burn

I bought the cheapest electric Norelco off amazon and it cost me so much less than buying blades. Also I can do it dry while taking a shit.

I might try that oneblade thing one day if this 3 circle blade thing ever dulls. It's been like a year and it still works pretty well.

I have one of these and it's probably good if you like the 3 day stubble look. Definitely doesn't get close enough

Appreciate it lads.

>buying into the safety razor meme

Enjoy cutting yourself and looking stubbly and uneven as fuck

Dollar shave club nigger

>buying into the procter & gamble scam
enjoy pissing money into the ocean buddy

6$ a month for a clean comfortable shave sure is expensive boy howdy

in comparison yeah

My dad was an alcoholic by the time I needed to shave my first time. My younger sister had to teach me by demonstrating on her legs. I'll never forget that anger.

youtube.com/watch?v=wgC-UZYtMPo
Have yourself some fun

In comparison to what? A shitty as relic from the 50s that you can't get a clean shave from, takes twice as long to use and will cut your ass once twice a month? Nobodies using those pieces of shit

6$ a month is cheap as shit, a small price to pay for a pain free good looking shave. Pussy 50's LARPers are the only ones using those safety razors

It's like using an IBM from 1985 as your PC

>i dont know how to use a safety razor therefore no one else does as well
had a hearty chuckle user; feel free to spend as much money as you want

I'm trying to avoid single use plastics, and I don't want to use some shitty estrogenic scented foams.

Whats a good choice?

While I basically agree, those "Art of Shaving" razors are just safety razors. And I guess those most be poplular with lots of people because how the fuck else does a razor blade chain exist.

wash your face with an actual soap before hand, it'll soften the hair.
Change your blades often, and dry the blades after each use.
Moisturise.

Dude, this I will never use anything else then a Safety Razor.
Cheap as fuck.

Think for a second in Jow Forums terms.
> selling Razor once a life for 30$ and selling Blade 0.1$ each
or
> selling fucking 3-5 blade greatest thing ever module for 5$ each cartridge (with lower shaving quality)

That is the reason why the industry dropped safety razor so fast $$$

Stop using multi-bladed razors.

Ranking of shaving quality:

1) the one single razor blade
some space
2) safety razor

long fucking nothing

3) shaving your face with gasoline and fire

(Eternal space)
.
those fucking blade cartridge things and anything esle

> can't get a clean shave from
> cut your ass once twice a month
lmao at you faggot
when I used those 3 blade systems I cut myself hard and had a shittier shave.

Stop shaving you pathetic basedims

how about some razor/blade recommendations?
I got the standard beginner merkur but it doesn't shave as close as I want, been using gillette blues

When you lather up you need to rub water into the shaving cream. If you just put shaving cream on your face like in your pic it doesn't lubricate nearly as well.

Also disposable razor blades are a meme spouted by people who don't get skin irritation. Use a 3 blade razor.

open comb vs closed comb

You want the open comb

this

Wash your face at night every day for 2-3 days even if you've applied shaving cream, it worked for me.
Use a razor that's actually good, not some disposable shit (gillette Mach 3 worked for me, it's kinda expensive, but you can always buy new razor heads and one head usually lasts me for a year)
I can't believe people have problem with shaving...

Shower first...gets your skin ready

This seems to be a returning question user.
Definite guide to shaving like a man:

>Drop all commercials into the trash bin. No Mach3 product will actually help you achieve what you want.
>Get an old school safety razor
>DO NOT use shaving foam or gel. Get a cream and make your own foam with a brush
>Prepare your skin for shaving with hot water (hot shower is even better)

>Apply foam with your brush
>Shave WITH grain
>Wash your face with warm water

>Apply foam with your brush
>Shave ACROSS the Grain
>Wash your face with warm water

>Apply foam with your brush
>Shave AGAINST the Grain
>Wash your face with COLD water

Protips for better life and shaving:
Make it a ritual not a rush
Keep your foam mug in hot water to keep the foam warm
Rinse your razor under hot water
Keep your shaving shit in a dry place. Humid air in the bathroom is not good for it in the long run. Lock it up in a cabinet or something.

Fucking try a mach3

Yeah these "hurr Durr I'm a maaaan" safety razor hipsters are spouting their crap, but fucking try a decent disposable for $3 before going gung ho on some shit.

A mach 3 should do a bazillion times better than that bullshit. If it's too expensive just shave less often

I’ve been shaving my head for 6 years. This is my routine currently:

I shave in the shower. I use a Merkur 34C razor load with Astra Superior Platinum razor blades. I use red Gillette shaving cream. I used to use proraso, but honestly the gillette is bretty good for me. Shave WITH the grain on your head. The weight of the razor alone should be enough pressure to shave with. I start with the top of the head going back to front. Then do the sides of your head, starting at the temple and shave top to bottom. For your face, do three passes. 2 with the grain, one across (90 degrees, NOT against the grain!) the grain. From here, get any spots you missed.

Finish with aftershave. There are many types of aftershave, but Aqua Velva is my favorite as it prevents razor burn the best. It does have a scent, but it fades to nothing after 30 minutes.

(You)'ve made your point.

just this.

i am never looking back

This. Get some better cream/soap while you're at it. Generic canned stuff was bad for my skin.
You can go full meme and get a nice aftershave and an alum stone as well. My skin is at its best right after I've shaved now, when before it was the opposite.

>take hot shower first to relax skin
>use good razor
>use good shaving cream
>do it more frequently
much easier to shave .001" stubble than a buzzed-down beard. /cleanshave/ is a lifestyle, not an act

my facial hairs grow really weird and in varying directions, can never get a good shave with disposable razors are good and cheap, but i have slight chicken skin on my throat so i tend to cut myself there
the only thing that works legit well for me is those gillette/whatever 3-blade razors
whenever i'm a bout to run out i just google for the best price of a 8+ pack of them (usually at like half the price of what they would cost in a store); though currently i only shave neck and throat and trim the rest so i can delay a purchase of new blades a bit more

aftershave, faggot.
cheap two blade razors are the GOAT, everything else tugs on my hairs
don’t know if it would help, but maybe shave more often? I get severe 5 o clock shadow so I gotta shave everyday (but I do it every other day)

Shave either right after or while you shower. The hair will be softer, more pliable and easier to cut.

I've use shave gel and shaving cream and never get razor burn without having to trim first. I just go at the growth with the razor

>safety razor
why does it look less safe to me than a cartridge?

Attached: 1496278158527.jpg (409x409, 76K)

indoctrination

but i can angle a cartridge like my mach 3 at any angle on my skin and not cut myself

safety razor seems like an accident could cut my skin open

cant expect the same construction on an entirely different design
dont knock it til you try it

APPLY JOJOBA OIL TO YOUR NECK AREA PRIOR TO SHAVING AND AFTER. MIX A FEW DROP OF THE OIL WITH YOUR SHAVING CREAM, APPLY, AND LEAVE ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE YOU SHAVE SO THAT IT CAN ABSORB INTO THE SKIN AND ALSO SOFTEN THE HAIR. JOJOBA OIL IS ABOUT $5 AND YOU CAN GET IT ONLINE OR AT THE VITAMIN SHOPPE.

That was probably due to shafting

DE razors are a OK, but I've had equally good or better shaves with even a 2 blade disposable like a blue II. ultimately it's just a tool; how you use it is more important than the tool itself. Like some here have already said, shave in or just after a hot shower. Make sure you wash your face before shaving as dead skin can cause drag and irritation. creams/foams/gels all serve the same purpose so don't get hung up on that stuff. Shave with the direction of growth, this won't always be straight down. Use light pressure.

Alright men, here's how to shave and keep the stubble away.

Exfoliate with a facial scrub to strip away dead skin your stubble is holding on to.

Wash with warm water to open the pores

Shave with a GOOD razor, not dollar store shit and a good shaving cream

Follow with a toner to close pores and out anti bacterial shit on your skin to keep acne/razor burn from coming back.

This is my sure fire way to keep my skin clear. I use it on my bikini zone and under my arms.

this, its cheap as fuck as well to buy like 100 blades.

Grow a neat beard.

Or wait, you're not actually so much of a soiboi or beardlet to be influenced by the soiboi meme right?

Cold water and a broken pair of scissors you PANSY.

Safety razor to be safe. Straight razor if you're heterosexual.

For all of you people shilling safety razors, what about on your balls/shaft? I’ve only used disposables with success

can one of you faggots explain the difference between a safety razor and this

Attached: 61730011_1_640x640.jpg (640x640, 39K)

One is shit and the other isn't.

and if you do it everyday you can even get away with a single pass

i get bad razor burn on my neck as well. Nothing has fixed it yet, but my best results have come from the following: super hot water on neck and face for 2-3min, use cremo shaving cream (more than they recommend, well lathered, use brush), safety blade with fresh razor (2-3 times tops), dry blade thoroughly when done, wash irritated area with antibacterial soap, use nivea post shave balm for sensitive skin.

stainless steel vs. nickel

This
It's not perfect, but it's quick and doesn't irritate my skin.

I got myself an electric razor, way more convenient to shave. Also I don't look way younger like I did when I was clean shaven.

Get rid of the jew-cool-gel.

Unironically use shaving soap.

I used to get razor burn and tried all the shit above. When I used the shaving soap it all went away. Plus you save a fortune in the long run. One of these lasts like 1.5-2 years.

Attached: shavingsoap.jpg (364x256, 25K)

it was a mistake im so fucking ugly

Safety razor, my man. Use a pre-shave oil before and afterwards some moisturizer (before you apply the aftershave, if you're using any). Blades are super cheap, which is a plus- be sure to get a blade bank.

Edwin Jagger makes some good DEs for beginners, they're very mild.
