This is Life

Sometimes my managers try to do "nice" things for me. These seems like role expansions but they're not in a positive direction. They've given me some new administrative tasks to perform but they're basically easy-but-boring chores no one else wants to do. They want me to help them with expanding the service but in the end my role will be very small, probably limited to inclusion by name only with some pseudo-technical manual labor thrown in. They gave me a raise, half of what I planned to ask for on my own, to incentivize me to keep doing what I'm doing and nothing more. It's not hard to see these things as a cheap ploy to keep me happy. It's not hard to see their flattery or carefully crafted comments as vain attempts to conceal the reality of the situation. The support role has proven notoriously difficult to fill, and the empty seats have been empty for months. They do not view my motivation or plasticity as a value to be added to the company, but as an adverse side effect of my work that needs to be managed. It is in their worst interest to give me more glamorous roles within the company, even though I may be ready for them, because that experience would increase my employability elsewhere and they need me to fill my current role. I'm acutely aware of this. To them I will always be the support monkey no matter how many unrequested automation scripts and patches I write. I will always be the support monkey no matter how much I understand our system architecture and toolchain. No matter how much time I spend after work honing my skillset to be a productive, complete person, this is my life.

user you have to kill your bosses it is simple as that. You will not be a monkey but a man- even if they draw parallels to a zoo animal gone mad you and I will know the truth- that you were an emasculated man, a slave graduated to the promotion of top eunuch. But that is not that the place for any real and true man. Kill your captors please do it and let the workers be set free by your example. Imagine a world with no work, no deadlines, no meetings no slavemasters, no commutes no overtime no banks no cars no phones no responsibility! Do it user do it goddamnit just fucking do it!

Shouldn't you just be glad that you have some job security?

I am not seeking liberation. This is my role in life. Understandably, not everyone can live the good life. Even if I can never achieve self-actualization I must chip in and do the dirty work so that at least some of us can. It's important that we complete our daily 8-hour chores to keep the dream alive. This is the bedrock of society and I'm proud to provide for the chosen ones. If my words have inspired you, I know a place that's looking to fill a few technical support roles.

Damn, user, was literally just about to make a thread saying the exact same thing. My managers gave me a "promotion" and a pittance of a raise despite how they always say I'm hard working and one of the best employees there. My hard work and dedication to improving myself for the sake of my job outside of work only makes me "dependable", which is the absolute worst fucking thing you can be if you value your days off. I'm on call 24/7 because if anyone gets "sick" on a holiday, I'm always the first pick to fill the gap. I know the truth is they don't want me to leave. I just got on neetbux though from all the hallucinations my job gave me so maybe this wasn't such a bad deal after all.

Threaten to resign.

I was in the same boat as you and they offered me significantly more money after I handed in my resignation letter. I left anyways because my bosses were pieces of shit and I had a year's worth of salary saved up.

Tell them you plan on going back to school for a graduate degree because you want to make more money down the line.

Note: There's a 50% chance they'll accept your resignation letter without a counter offer of some sort. So be prepared to leave if you do this.

Your lack of ego and subservience is disgusting, and none of your oppressors will succeed, nor is the so called good life that they achieve something worth working toward. It is a materialistic and selfish life. To feed the system that enslaves you willingly is equivalent of DaVinci denying the world his talents or Washington denying the United States his leadership. You do not inspire me but you do ignite the hate within me. To be a wagecuck...willfully...you are meant to be on my side! Anarchy is your home. You are not meant to perpetuate the cycle of enslaving robots to the system- you indirectly support the system Chad and his nepotism is founded upon socially, and directly support the conglomerates and oligarchs ruling us from the shadows. On the day of the rope souls like you, offered the sword but deny and cling to the hammer will be killed and no one will regret it.

Why not negotiate for higher wages since you clearly deserve them? Just walk into your manager's office and start with a firm handshake.

>My managers gave me a "promotion" and a pittance of a raise despite how they always say I'm hard working and one of the best employees there.

Corporations never promote their best employees. They depend on them to keep doing what they're doing. Corporations instead promote people who are good at playing office politics and stabbing their competition in the back.

>dependable
It's the boss equivalent of your crush telling you, "You're so nice! I wish I could meet someone just like you." They're afraid to take your relationship to the next level because they need you to be their rock. Damn, I miss Kaitlyn. Might check out her Facebook account later on. I think she's still in grad school for biochem. My, how time flies.

How old are you and what did you go to college for, OP?

What exactly is your ideal expectation then from an employer? What are your expectations?

Attached: 1492612028962.jpg (641x530, 32K)

My expectations? I expect exactly what I'm getting. My desires? They're completely unreasonable. Not everyone can live life the way I wish I could live mine. The transaction I'm making with my employer is completely fair and consensual. Every day I show up I'm agreeing to do the work. It's not a question of how good my life could be anymore, I'm emotionally invested; married to the job, as they say. They'd ask me tough questions like, "Were we not good enough for you? Could we have done something better?" What would I say to that? What if I tell them how I feel and they don't think I'm being reasonable? Plus, I'd feel bad to leave them in the middle of an ongoing project. They might tell my new prospect that I bailed out at a critical moment for the company. Wouldn't that be embarrassing! Besides, who's going to do the work if I don't? I'm the last one working tech support.

College? Nobody asks me about college anymore. I've been in this industry for nearly 6 years! There's no turning back for me now.

Who's ready to make today great?!

I appreciate any and all catgirl posting. Thanks, user

So you're basically substituting the neglect of your passive-aggressive mommy and daddy issues with your employer?
Then you go online and substitute the neglect of your mommy daddy employer issues with passive aggression to anonymous strangers online?

If there's one thing that working tech support has taught me, it's that the customer is always right. I can't abandon my customers! Here are a few other things I've picked up along the way: I must show the customer how special they are. I must remember to never let the phone ring more than three times before answering. I must remember to smile when answering the phone because the customers can hear it in your voice. I must always answer the customer's one word emails in full paragraphs. I must not say things that make the company look bad. I must not scream while others are hard at work. Doing otherwise would be unprofessional.

Tell us more about the situations you've encountered at your job, Fresco. I'm sure it'll help you unwind and maybe make you less red in the face.

Thanks but I've given up on finding a woman to settle down with.

Sorry friend, gotta hit the hay. Big day at work tomorrow! I have to get there on time so my coworker Stacy can play a full 8 hours of Mahjong uninterrupted.
