I'm extensively tattooed and people always think I'm weird because i'm disillusioned with tattoo culture.
I've gotten a tattoo for every 6 months i was deployed and every single one of them is larger than a foot in pure length. A few of them are close to 2-3 feet long and almost as thick.
I just don't care at all about getting any more and I really don't give a shit about other people's tattoos.
These are reminders for me, friends that died, events I went through, I look down and I see these things every day.
Another person's tattoo is like reading a synopsis of a book and if the first sentence is "I got this because it looked cool." I doubt I'd be very interested in the book at all.

I've been deployed 4 times in a 6 year period anywhere from 6 months-12 months not including retention change over month. I deployed to the Haitian disaster. I was deployed also in Korea for two-3 month exercises.

Everyone in my unit outside my Platoon SGT had a tattoo.

Anyone grandfathered in or with the ability to completely cover their tattoos if they fit into 670-1's criteria of what was considered safe at the time was legally under UCMJ law allowed to keep their tattoos.
The worse that could happen is that you might not be allowed to re-enlist.
