Does owning a belt or straps as a beginner lifter make you look bad or do should going raw be the only option?

Use a belt once you get to mid 300's on any lift. Straps at 500+ on deadlifts
Thanks i have no need of buy one now
you can use it, up to you.
on deadlifts, grip strength might hold you back at first but you will get better if you just tough it out.
chalk made a world of difference for me in the pulls. belt not so much, but it helps on squat. i use wraps for high rep power shrugs or heavy partials. idk if you want to do this type of stuff as a beginner but you're free to do whatever you want. youre your own man
straps are a must if you're not a competitive power lifter imo. Your grip will always be the first thing to go, and there's no reason to leave gains on the table because of it.
For instance, using straps or reverse grip chalk adds 100 lbs to my deadlift
Using them too early hinders forearm gains tho
I started wearing a belt at 2pl8 squat and 3pl8 diddly
What are some good belts Jow Forums recommends?
If you do manual labor for a living like me then they are a must even with beginner lifts. I just can't afford not to.
nothing looks worse then huge arms with tiny forearms. workout your grip strength and dont use straps unless your hitting elite levels of strength
>that 20 year old boomer who needs a belt
Here's the gear I have
>Rom 2s weightlifting shoes
>really good quality elieko belt
>elieko straps
>elieko wrist wraps
and I use none of them anymore.
For some reason the weightlifting shoes ruined my squat. The wristwraps made my wrist joint hurt, the straps weakened my grip, and the belt (while giving me an extra few % on my total) is painful to use, it is so much more comfortable just lifting without a belt, maybe it's just me, but thats how i feel.
This is after 6+ years lifting. I just do everything raw, beltless, barefoot, no straps, no wraps, and my body just "feels" better.
The belt is only the only thing I see a difference in total weight moved, but again, the belts hurt to use, and I just don't like having all that additional pressure building up, it hurts.
Also - in a real life situation where I need to use my strength, I'm not going to have a raised heel, or a belt on, or wraps, or straps, so yeah, I decided I wanted proper carry over to real world strength, which was another reason for dropping the use of all those items as well.
Any questions?
Just do farmers walks
I also do manual labor. Never used straps, a belt, chalk, even lifting shoes for that matter. Why would you need straps?
I did mixed grip deads my first year and hook grip my second year of training. Now I use straps because I only do Romanian deadlifts in training.
Grip strength is important so for deadlifts you should be double overhanding with no straps for as long as you can. Do lots of rows and pull ups/lat pull downs for grip strength too.
that is how you use those?
I thought they were for wrist support; I bought them because my job was fucking up my wrists and these helped
This is a meme, straps literally make no difference in forearm gains. If you're that worried then chuck in a few sets of forearm work at the end of your session, don't hold back gains over silly meme tier shit like this.
It's not a meme. Theres a reason you can lift more with straps.
Can you even show me an example of someone who uses straps, has a decent dead, and small forearms?
yes
Nobody in your gym cares if you use straps or belts but if you wear gloves they're all laughing at you behind your back.
Straps don't entirely eliminate the grip component of deadlifting, they just prevent the bar from rolling, like the mixed grip. The bar isn't literally tied on to your wrists, you still need to grip the bar for them to work.
Most people at the gym are retards, dyels, or people that only lift conventional with the big three. Most just dead and bench. Fuck em
I've started using wrist braces because I fucked my wrist doing something like 6 months ago, it's just gotten so weak I can't lift without it.
U gay, bro?
Nah, because they either train their forearms or didnt use straps until they got to 4pl8
