Self-Defense while Running

So I am going to begin running at night instead of before work in the morning. Does anyone here have any recommendations for intermediate level, non-lethal self-defense weapons?

I have a S&W pocket knife, but I would like something that could keep some space between me and potential attackers. I have looked into mace sidearms, and they look rather effective.

I need something to hold me over until I have time to complete my CC course.

Have you considered moving?

carry a plastic water bottle, but instead of filling in with water . fill it with acid. anyone that tries to fuck with you splash them in the face with acid.

one of these
you dont need to know how to knife fight and potentially end up getting yourself killed and its easy to use with extra reach

I live in a rural area. I'm mostly focused on bears, coyotes, mountain lions, etc.

Pepper spray and only pepper spray.
Knife fights are stupid as fuck and your best defense is just to run even faster. CCing while running is not advisable unless your get some small .380 and strap it to your ass TIGHT. A few companies cater to this, so shop around. I don't like carrying in another other than molded kydex, but it also depends on the gun

Yeah those self-defense batons are pretty formidable. You can easily break bones with enough force.

Tactical pens are nice too. A pierce to the ribs can definitely crack them.

the best self defense while running, is running faster you idiot

Look into bear mace then, dont know why you didnt say that in the first place

You bought a knife to defend yourself against bears and mountain lions?

Pepper spray has been recommended to me the most.

I have a subcompact 9mm, and would rather not carry it while running, but I'm definitely going to take it with me when I go for hikes.

You can't outrun a mountain lion dumbass

No, I already had the knife. I was just taking stock of what is already in my possession.

If I thought that my pocket knife was enough to defend against bears, then I wouldn't have made this thread. Idiot.

Never know until you try. Remember, humans are the only animals on the planet that hunt by endurance!

Yeah let me just go test that out

those things are fast af and have good reach to knock someones kneecaps right off

you should run with that knife in your hand

And while you're at it, don't get into any armed confrontation you don't intend to finish lethally if necessary.

Gun. Duh.

Yeah I should have posted this in Jow Forums my b.

Hey Satan

Guns aren't considered non-lethal tho

You're already doing the one thing which will and is proven to get you out of harms way - RUNNING. Why would you try and increase the chances of getting harmed or even killed by trying to fight - just run faster and further until you get away and if that's not possible then you're fucked whether you have a knife or not.

This. Easy to carry in one hand, and there's no real stopping it once it's swung.
Coyotes won't generally fuck with adult humans unless they're rabid. If a mountain lion jumps you you're fucked; your only hope is to see it before it sees you, and good luck with that. If a bear decides to attack you you're fucked no matter what. For predators your best bet is mace. Even better than guns, actually.

Pretty sure wolves are too, and who knows what else. Sure endurance will win in the long run, but you won't have much time to run from a bear or a mountain lion.

ex nihil domine

I'm not trying to fight. And you seriously can't believe that if you're pinned down, that it makes no difference at all if I have a knife or not

Look, I understand that wild animals typically don't pick fights with adult humans. I've lived in the countryside for 25 years now. My philosophy on self-defense is to prepare oneself for any possible hazard that might present itself. Of course, there are many variables in a confrontation that you can't account for, but all other things being equal, one is better off having a self-defense tool than not. You can't deny that.

you‘re not going to outbattle a wild predator with a puny weapon
confronting any of those animals you listed above is a sure death/life threatening injury

You're not going to outrun a bear or a mountain lion.

run faster or wear armor while running

Which is why I said that your best bet is bear spray, carried somewhere easily accessible (preferably actually in your hand, with a strap so that it doesn't get knocked off if you're knocked down by surprise).

Yeah but a lucky shot with a knife to a bear might be the difference. It doesn't matter if the odds are slim. They're even slimmer w/o the weapon

Carry bear spray, become bear's prey.

yup. I've gone ahead and ordered some bear spray. Also, while all the focus has been on animals, I pass other runners and hikers who may or may not be armed. There's no reason not to stock up if it's within your means.

>self defense
>non lethal
pick one

Tie some little jingle bells to your feet. The noise should keep animals away. Or attract them. I don't know. Shit.

I'll be fully equipped for lethal self-defense once I get my phone hooked up to these orbital lasers.

I'm just going to start running with a boom box and blast some Migos. The animals will probably stay away-- I know I would
