The only protein actually worth a 1-1 ratio from the nutritional information is shit like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, whey. The protein in cereal and bread is about 0.25-1 ratio of quality. So for every 1 gram of protein you eat from the extra you should count it as 0.25g in reality.

You can have a protein lacking tons of essential amino acids, which is what low quality proteins are.

Protein quality is like this.

Imagine you have 100g protein. The following indicates the quality of the amino acids present and the total list of amino acids present.

Protein in bread - 25/100
Protein in rice - 30/100
Protein in beans 35/100
Protein in chicken breast - 85/100
Protein in tuna - 90/100
Protein in whey - 95/100
Protein in eggs - 98/100

As you can see the meat and diary as the highest possible sources of protein available. Focusing your diet on getting protein from non-animal sources is fucking retarded because they're all have low quality amino acid profiles.

This is why you only count high quality sources of protein for your total daily intake.


To count that 10g protein from a serve of that cereal would be retarded, counting it as 5g would be pushing it.
