How much belly fat do you need to lose in order for visible abs? I have average belly fat, but I don't know if it's enough to hide my abs.

If you can't see your abs then it's enough to hide them.

But I don't really have any abs beyond the average type.

That's why I want to know if I should lose fat first, or work on my abs first.

Idiot, you are not gonna make it

Explain.

You are most likely around 25% body fat, this means that you will need to lose at least 10% if you want to have good looking abs in good light and 15 % if you want to have sexy abs in every light.
In other words, you will need to cut down, work out and be patient.

Thank you for explaining instead of just insulting me

working out wont make you lose weight over night

I know

Anyway OP it seems that you are still a dumbass and need some help, lucky for you I am bored.
Go measure your body fat percentage:
>fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
Give us a full body picture of you, front and back.
Also, tell us your lifts.

Work on abs while loosing fat. By the time you get all the fat off you will actually have something under it.

>Also, tell us your lifts.

I don't lift yet, but there are some 20 pound dumbbells in my dad's garage. Would that do anything, or do I have to bench press?

20 pounds is nothing, get a gym membership or invest in heavier weights. You can find used dumbbells and shit on craigslist if you look around

>20 pounds is nothing,

Are you serious? Those things killed my arms the last time I used them

The five big lifts are in all routines for a good reason, but you can look for alternatives.
Also asking your father if he can pay for a gym membership or working for a month and paying it yourself would be a smarter option.

Not op but this calculator tells me I'm 16% body fat but Jow Forums tells me I'm 25% body fat when I post in the cbt...

I'm guessing you're quite young. Read the sticky man. Good on you for starting early, but do it right.

yeah but next time you use them they will feel easier, and the next time even easier. You're gonna outgrow them in less than a month.

At my college campus there's 's rec center with weights and shit, but I think there's a rule that you need to have somebody watching you if you bench press or something, and I've got no one at school that would do that for me

Use dumbbells, you can just drop them if you have to and you won't kill yourself with the bar.

+-5 %
The calculator is only a tool, you could make many mistakes etc.
also why don't you show us ur sexy body lad?

they probably just mean to have someone spot you. You don't need a friend, just ask someone to spot you when you're ready to bench and they'll be glad to do so. It only takes a few seconds, don't feel like you're bothering anyone if they look like they're between sets.

Do they have to watch me the whole time I lift?

I'd say I'm probably at 20% but I also thought I was at 20% like 20lbs ago...
>6'4
>202lbs

Yes. And if you ask someone to spot you they'll know what to do.

But you shouldn't be benchpressing if you don't know how, you'll have an awful time with balance and probably get an impingement anyway. Read The relevant chapter of SS for the biomechanics and technique.

A standard olympic barbell is 20 kilos (~45lb) without any weights added on. You can't directly compare something like a dumbbell press to a standard barbell bench press (since the dumbbells have more freedom of motion) but that 45lb bar is ~20lb per arm.

Everyone starts out somewhere, just know how long a road is ahead of you if you want to be lifting like some of Jow Forums does. I'm not there yet; not even close. But you have to remember that the whole concept of training is making what's difficult to you now something you wouldn't even think twice about later.

they'll probably just spot you for that set and then go back to where they were. They're just there in case something goes wrong and you can't finish the rep. They'll help you rerack safely. Pic related is how they'll stand until they see you need help.

>that file name
Kek

>tfw all my friends either don't lift or go to different gyms
>tfw it's ok because strangers spotting me at the gym are always supportive

>tfw all your bodyfat goes right to your stomach so i will never have abs even at 10-11% bodyfat

At least I dont get tits when I bulk up.

got a pic of your back?
But I would say that you are < 20%, in other words, you seem to do everything right.
