I tried but I'm just not interested in watching third worlders compete for my enjoyment, if you make it a bloodsport like Spartacus then mayB, but for now it's boring. I realized I enjoy reading awesome stories like berserk, death note, ect. I like playing games that challenge me like 20xx, dark souls, hollow knight ect. And I enjoy ripped for summer and shaving my head for my One Punch Man cosplay, it's what makes me happy. Hopefully one day I'll find a gf interested in all that but if not that's ok, at least I didnt give up my whole personality for some beef flaps in the end...

I agree, but there's really nothing wrong with engaging in activities that are mindless fun as well. In fact, I'd say those activities are pretty important for your overall mental health.

I play video games, but I also box competitively, am learning guitar, and volunteer as a math tutor. I really the latter three, but god knows don't want to do them all the time. They're enjoyable, they're productive, but they're not pure fun. Gaming is pure fun for me and how I choose to really unwind.

Compared to hobbies which better yourself video games are childishly simple and repetitive. With shooters all you do it run around looking for enemies then when you them you point and shoot. With R. T. S. games you keep doing the same builds over and over again with no creativity involved. Pretty much every game consists of the same basic operation over and over again with just a few subtle points to discovered then once again repeated over and over again.

With things like creative writing, writing songs or writing essays you actually need to engage your cerebrum (video games can probably be accomplished with your brain stem.) You need to understand the deeper meaning of whatever is going on, think of original thoughts and express your own opinions on the matter. Use the giant brain evolution has gifted us with.

You are just straight up generalising a hugely complex activity like video games, distilling it into it's most basically describable form isn't accounting for literally everything else going on. I can say "poetry is just reading words", or, "soccer is just kicking a ball". Games that are pure gameplay and mechanical are comparable to chess, especially if it is online, the exact same brain activity occurs. logistical planning and abstract reasoning of another human's potential behaviour. Wont even get into the fact that there are plenty of games that are indeed creative and require deep creative thinking.

There's a reason scientists have discovered playing games contributes to neurogenesis. I hate to be that one cringey person to defend video games of all things, but please don't generalise something so complex in such a way again.

I only play video games when a friend comes over and wants to. I don't have anything against it as long as you are productive in other aspects of life, but personality I haven't got the time to play them.

You can write about movies, music, T. V. shows or any other form of entertainment. Essays are the same thing as talking with the only difference being it's written down. If you have nothing intelligent to say, or emotional responses to comment on then The Demise of Guys is complete.

Poetry communicates deeps ideas so it's intelligent, but something like Soccer has very few variables. You need to look at where the ball is, read the defense then decide where to run. Someone could wax poetic about how complex that is but once someone knows how to do it there isn't much higher thought involved. Most games can be solved by a Turing Test you didn't give any examples but even Chess becomes formulaic when you're opponents play boring positions. Control the center, develop quickly, examine all captures, check for in-between moves, evaluate the different considerations for trading down and so forth.

Some games are good for stimulating brain activity but that's probably only compared to doing things like watching T. V. or working in a factory where you can cease all discriminate thought. Games are played for the dopamine release of winning or getting a kill and not creative or intelligent thought.

It seems that you grant a cerebral activity as intelligent so long as an artificial construct that is not organically human is incapable of doing that activity.

This really depends on the game. RPGs and other mindledd grindfests i can agree with. But i don't see the difference between learning an instrument and becoming really good at a rhythm game or speedrunning. Competitively playing vidya or actively necoming very skilled at it i would consider productive.
