This actually happened to me. I work in an office that goes 9 to 5. I usually get in around 10:15 a.m. and leave at 6:15 p.m. (Actually, I pretty much never get in before 10:15 a.m.)

So, I said I'm an earnest and sincere worker. I put in solid work, fulfill every deadline and obligation, mentor the younger employees, and serve as a second opinion for the older employees. I also maintain the office network and serve as the go-to guy for all computer questions and issues, even though it's not remotely in my job description.

If you think it's worth firing or reprimanding me for coming in late but working the exact same number of hours, then go ahead. That would be a foolish decision. Is this some kind of "form over substance" issue, or is it based on an actual problem? Because I spend my day here solving plenty of problems that aren't my own. Yet, if the message here is that I shouldn't go above and beyond and rather work to the letter of my job description, including office hours, then let me know and I'll do it.

Yes, I come in over an hour late every day, but I also stay equally late. However, we don't have an official flexi time policy.

My office would be screwed without me, and they know it. They're a bunch of lazy Boomer fucks who can't use computers, and they constantly ask me about minor issues like inserting images and tables into MS Word documents. I work really hard, but I'm sick of this shit. I'm also underpaid for what I do.

So my message was like yeah, go ahead and reprimand me if you think it's a really good idea. I do all kinds of work and solve problems that aren't my own. If you really think I should punch in 9 to 5 and do my exact job description, let me know.

I'm late by 20-30 minutes all the time.

No one gives a fuck because when I'm really needed, I make it count. Like we took over 3 big contracts toward the end of last year and I worked two weekends owing to it.

So although I'm supposed to do 37.5 hours a week, between the tardiness and the time I'm not really doing much while at work, I'm actually doing ~30.

And I'm on salary.
