I don't recall but it's nothing that breaks the character or anything. The director would add more kurapika time because he was in love with him. In some occasions, for example when he's training his conjurer abilities they add some scenes of him living with chains and his daily life under the tutoring of that dark haired teacher after he learns nen and is practicing to succesfully conjure chains
some argue that it added more to him and it was better than the original story where he just describe it to gon and the others, but a lot of shots were influenced by the edgy animes of the time.
I particularly prefer the 2011 version that stays entirely faithful to the author's vision but the 99 version is not bad
