Hello everybody this is the first thread for Japanese learning. The thread I posted yesterday got some intrest so I am trying this. We will start off by trying to master gramatical fluency. I think starting with grammar over the alphabet or any vocabulary is that both of those things are useless if you don't know grammar. It would be like learning what the different cards to in a trading card game before knowing the rules. In this thread you will post your english sentances with Japanese grammar. For learning grammar youtu.be/rUFExxTeZhU this is a good starting point, and is probably what is useful for now. Some people like Tae Kim's book, but I am not a fan, but here it is in case you really like it guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar.
Your homework for next time will be to write some intresting sentances using Japanese grammar. If you are ambicious you can write a short story in english using the best Japanese grammar. It can be about anything you like, and it will also help your fluency. If you want to improve fast you should try to keep a diary or write something else all in Japanese grammar.
Remember in this thread use the best Japanese grammar you can. The question for today is why do you want to learn Japanese?
I-wa start-shimasu. You-wa My Mistakes-o corret-shi-masu I-wa weeb desu.

Are u updating this? I'l give it a try.
Jaxson Long

>learning a shitty language contained on some bumfuck archipelago Time to learn mandarin to serve better in the future, white boi
Owen James
soon user, i will learn japanese when I achieve neet status
Logan Carter
>when you realize this is a bad idea because Jow Forums can't even use japanese characters
Juan Campbell
learning hiragana and katakana now for my trip to japan in 4 months. Will i be able to at least order food without pointing at pictures?
Owen Diaz
Should've considered that most users use English so the majority of keyboards are in English as well. Should've realized that before realizing Jow Forums can't use Japanese characters faggot
Christian Robinson
hey OP I have a better idea why not learn japanese with memes? everone knows omai wa mo shindeiru (nani) or anata no koto gaa su-suki!
look at this meme picture ,I learned this word just by saving/remembering it.
> think starting with grammar over the alphabet or any vocabulary is that both of those things are useless if you don't know grammar. It would be like learning what the different cards to in a trading card game before knowing the rules. Disagree. You need to start with hiragana and katakana because you literally can't learn anything without it.
Also, as someone who jumped into the Tae Kim book with no vocab, it fucking sucks and makes grasping even the basic concepts way harder. The book already doesn't have any practice exercises, so if you are unable to understand the example sentences it's literally pointless.
In my opinion, learning the first 1000 or so words in the anki Core2k deck makes learning grammar way, way easier because you are able to grasp the sentences in Tae Kim (he uses very basic words from the outset).
My suggestion on how to do it: >1. Learn Hiragana and Katakana (mandatory) >2. Learn 500-1000 words from Core2K while skimming over Tae Kim >3. Do a second read through of Tae Kim once you reach 1000+ words and slowly start reading basic shit like Yotsuba concurrently.
OP you sound like you don't know jack shit about the language, I suggest not steering people the wrong way when you think you can achieve grammar fluency without the base writing systems or any vocab.
Ryder Sanchez
Until China un-commies itself, I'm not learning fucking Mandarin.
Nolan Hall
you faggots are gonna sound super gaijin. those programs dont teach you the way that everyday people talk to you on the streets. sure theres a politeness protocol, but these are teaching you to be more like a businessman rather than a casual person just looking to make some friends.
Christian Ross
there is a thread for that on /jp/
Nathan Ward
thanks for posting this user. ignore the spergs
Aaron Russell
That's a terrible way to go about it. First of all, that's the formal way of saying it. Imagine some retard reading this then when he's trying to act tough because some street punks are messing with him, he thinks he'll be cool by saying watashi and ending it with ~desu. He's gonna sound retarded.
Isaac Martinez
>that's the formal way of saying it no it's the way everyone here will understand, ore is not as known. also it's still written desu no matter how you pronounce it.
Lincoln Baker
enjoy memorizing 2136 characters lol
Angel Stewart
First of all what do you not understand? I specifically said street punks, and yes they do. I'm saying in the context of the meme, it's out of place for someone to be saying "I am the danger" like that. If you were to say that, you would want to sound more aggressive, you sure as hell wouldn't add desu at the end, you'd add da for more effect. What part of Nihon are you even in?
Connor Gutierrez
i will! its been fun so far and ive gotten a job from it. and met a lot of cool nip friends
Aiden Rodriguez
It's really not that hard with SRS programs.
Adrian Allen
What's the job you get from knowing few kanji?
Joseph Reyes
Kanji is not hard. Learning all of their pronunciations and what they mean is very straightforward. Certainly better than Mandarin. Fuck their bullshit tones.
Alexander Phillips
They did this on /a/ for years, why are you here now?
>and yes they do baby steps user and WW was a very polite guy I'm not good at japanese, just wanted to say that memes could be easier to remember
Adrian Rogers
Alright everyone, if you're interested in learning Japanese pay attention because I'll give you the detailed steps in order to learn it.
>Download and install Anki >Download core 10k deck for Anki. Just type "Core 10k Sentences [v2015-10-17] [Full]" on google and it will likely be the first result >Download a very underrated open source software called Tagaini Jisho. It is a very comprehensive dictionary with stroke orders, kanji meanings, related words, JLPT level, and even review tools >Grab a notebook and a pen >Write the Katakana and Hiragana alphabet on the notebook daily and with the right stroke order (just google for the stroke order sheets) >Start going through the Core 10k deck and write down every phrase you study, not just the word highlighted >When you don't know a word or kanji in the phrase, look it up in Tagaini Jisho >When you find weird grammar that you don't understand, google it (it's very likely you will only need to google particles and verb conjugation) >Keep writing down every phrase and every kanji you find while doing the Core 10k deck By the end of this process, you'll have all the vocabulary and grammar you need to speak fluently. Don't fall for the Genki meme because it's pretty useless. Actually, any grammar book is pretty useless as well. Learning vocabulary in real-world-context phrases is what is going to teach you real world proficiency with the language. Took me a long time to figure out this process, so please at least try it before you dismiss it.
DO NOT USE DUOLINGO IT'S A CROCK OF SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chase Johnson
No, signs are in Kanji unless it's a foreign food. Those are in katakana.
Grayson Allen
Well that's what you wrote. "it's been fun so far"
Jaxon Mitchell
just because I'm not good at it doesn't mean the method is bound to fail.
