Might be a retarded question, but why do people on eBay sell clothes, for example, that were once over $1000 for only half the price?
Obviously the people selling it didn't get buy it for the retail price, but how does something that once went for $1000 suddenly become only $500 after 2 years?
I always figured older shit that manufacturers no longer make would increase in value, not decrease.
Is this just exclusive to clothing or something?

Usually fakes, sometimes stolen, vary rarily depreciation in price value or production imperfection

Why would I pay $900 for something that's old when I could pay $1000 for something new?

I considered that possibility, but they have the original tags and the tags sewn on the shirt match up and everything. And the guy has been selling designer clothes for years and has 100% feedback. And I mean this dude has like over 200 feedback from all kinds of different users. But I guess it could be stolen.

The guy listing the product has listed it as a new item with the tags still attached. He is going to send it in its original packaging and everything. And I'm talking about a $1000 product being sold for HALF the price. If it was only a $100 difference, that would be understandable.

Presumably he buys up lots of old clothing that are liquidated for cheap once they go out of style and there's not enough of a market for them to be worth stocking in a store or holding onto in a warehouse. Manufacturers/distributers do volume, so it's not worth it for them to sell off small amounts of leftover goods. He must have some connection with one of them, or a liquidating company.

I see that as a possibility. Here's the link to one of the clothes he's selling. ebay.com/itm/NWT-SAINT-LAURENT-PARIS-Yves-Collar-Viscose-Twill-Shirt-Flamingo-Print-XL/153127819155?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=52935&meid=167401ce3f894f59811e4deef52d85ea&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=12&sd=153117557954&itm=153127819155&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

It obviously isn't fake. And he is transparent about the original price and everything. But why is it going for $300 less than the original price when it's brand new with tags and everything?

Because why would anyone buy a style from two years ago for $1000 when they could buy this year's for the same price? What said, in other words.

So it's just out of style now and there's something comparable and a bit better, and therefore it loses value? So clothes in general must be a horrible investment?

He is transparent about the MSRP, not the price he (or she) would have actually paid for it.

The seller probably bought it at wholesale/discount prices when a shop cleared its stock.

Also when it comes to fashion, people (normies) will pay more for newer designs, and be less willing to pay high prices for old designs.

Um, yes and also yes? Have you never had to wear clothing before?

Clothes in general are a consumable good. They wear out. The styles go out of date. It's like food, almost. You wouldn't invest all your savings in a thousands of hamburgers (well, technically you could). It's very rare that clothes will increase in value, unless they're very high-end or otherwise rare and desirable (like limited-edition sneakers)

I knew Jow Forums users were dumb, but not this dumb... seriously this is some sub-50 IQ bullshit

most of the time they just want quick fast cash to pay bills or something

they are ALWAYS fake. I found some jordans and they said they shipped from taiwain instantly noped. I found a site that sells the actual replicas labeled as replicas would rather do that.

no one going to get a new release as soon as it comes out and then when it goes out of stock and then lower the price of it lol. just had this issue today was looking around for shoes on ebay now im too scared to buy shit. at least the cheap Chinese sites label them as replicas and the price reflects the qualities.

just look up repshoes on reddit and shit like that and you'll find better sites for replicas. new unused clothing for hype designer brands will ever ever go down unless its a seasonal thing or something I assume

Do you think this is fake

This is the actual true answer in this thread.

Also if it's an auction, the final sell price depends on demand and supply

thiss user

the people buying that know its fake and that's why its cheap and they leave the positive review. some people just too stupid to tell its fake etc. I think I don't actually know.

is it a hype/popular brand or just something funky? does it say authentic or 100% authentic in the description? message the buyer and ask about its authenticity.

ask for live pictures of the product ESPECIALLY if its a 1000 dollar product and there's reddit and facebook pages where you can authenticate items. be very weary because from what I read ebay has a shitty policy about returning shit and refunds because ebay staff doesn't know for a fact if its authentic or not and pictures can be fake.

you'd have a good case for a chargeback on paypal though but you'd be risking a lot of cash and you'd probably just end up with some fake replica and your money back which is okay but still sketchy as hell.

use stockx, they have professional authenticators in their stations and they test every single product that comes through. i'd always be weary though today looking on reddit someone said they bought a fake yeezy boost pair and they uploaded it to an authenticating facebook group and it passed their test lol.

some replicas are really cheap and obvious shit and some replicas are expensive and come in really really nice realistic quality but there's almost always something that gives it away.

if its louis Vuitton or something and for 1000 dollars im assuming its something like that you can tell it to an actual LV store and the staff there can authenticate I think for free. but half price probably not happening. look at box logo tee shirts they go for like 30-40 bucks on the release date for supreme but sell for like 120 bucks on ebay.

same with everything. cheap on release date, high resale. its gotta be a fake.

>pay for brand
>shoes

I'm talking about stuff like this. I mean it's not half the price, but the original retail price is supposed to be like over 800, but he's selling it for 500. It just makes you wonder.

I meant to refer you to this post

I found the original shirt for 220 at neimanmarcus and that one is 500 bucks? yeah it probably is real. dont quote me on that I dont see that shirt in any other site

where did you see the original for 1000?

I only like jordans I buy the replicas lol. also fuck you.

wait the neemans one is a different size flamingo print. idunno man show me where you're seeing the original one for sale off an official retailer

It wasn't this shirt in particular. I was being more general about it. But I think this is another good example. ebay.com/itm/NWT-SAINT-LAURENT-PARIS-Je-taime-Cursive-Print-Wool-Blend-Shirt-40-L/153117557954?_trkparms=aid=111001&algo=REC.SEED&ao=1&asc=20160908105057&meid=4750e410630e4277a501ef8015a200be&pid=100675&rk=2&rkt=15&sd=153127819155&itm=153117557954&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci:19ca1122-9d44-11e8-b04d-74dbd1801a3f|parentrq:28314fd21650ab66d7c6f99cfffec6ac|iid:1

The MSRP is 1150, but he's selling it basically for half the price. And it's from 2018. How does that make sense?

i cant tell you any information unless you link me to a retailer where the shirt is actually selling for that price.

show me one where you have an authentic verified listing for and the cheaper ebay version. its a seller outside the US and if its really half price like you say it has to be fake no ones plugged like that.

even if they were why sell it for 600 instead of 1000?

It's called FASHION, clothes also show signs of wear and age pretty quickly.

I can see what you're saying, but the fact that he's being so transparent about it makes me believe it's real. On top of that, he has photos of the tag which match with the tags that are sewn on the shirt as well. I don't even see it on the official website anymore. Must be out now.

well duh hes gonna make it look real look at whats at stake there. 600 dollars. you gotta go hard for that kinda money. I cant tell I cant even find these shirts outside of that one listing or a sold out one on the YSL site. call YSL themselves and show them the listing?

I saw a thing today looking up the same exact stuff and I found a post on ebays site saying they paid 850 for a LV scarf and found out it was fake.

also with this stuff don't people buy it at a cheap price using online shopping bots or on the release date at the store and just sell it for whatever they think they can get for it? maybe one guys trying to squeeze out 1000 because he bought it legit and maybe this guy bought it legit and is just selling it for 600

also ysl has that same shirt listed on their official site for less.

ysl.com/us/shop-product/men/ready-to-wear-classic-shirts-yves-collar-shirt-in-black-and-white-je-t-aime-printed-wool-etamine_cod38653914bm.html?tp=62442&targetid=aud-384938230533:pla-96778433088&location=9005315&gclid=CjwKCAjwkrrbBRB9EiwAhlN8_JUjr9nE_ZMnr7S4sLOxpExNmMrlP5tkIev8cVZ98UctnniS9agZyhoCm3UQAvD_BwE

Well wouldn't you think he'd have at least some negative feedback? Given how many different people he's sold shit to, you would think one person at least would've caught on and said "fuck you I'm gonna give you negative feedback"

idk I saw a seller today selling every type of #1 Jordan you could imagine for a really good price with a 99.6% rating and I checked the bottom few ratings and it was like 3-4 people saying fake. also that seller has no returns. that shirt is on sale from the official YSL site, you should cop that

Yeah, I just saw. Thank god

nice cop man glad you found that half off instead of buying that shit off ebay. he might be legit I dunno his listing is 200 bucks more than the official YSL site so it might be real

Can you explain this shit though?
item.fril.jp/0b54efc24eeb32f85af0477397273656

I'm going to assume you can't read Jap.
Basically he claims it's not fake.
He bought it for roughly 1200 dollars.
But he is now selling it for like 550 dollars.
What the fuck is up with that?
Is it because it's from 2015?

I cant say for sure but that sounds like total bull shit.

look at this listing: stockx.com/jordan-4-retro-black-cement-2012

it costs 315 bucks but the retail is 160. I was under the impression once something goes out of stock its worth more not less. I really cant say much unless I see an actual authentic official retailer version with the price for sure.

also forgot there's different seasons for everything that might have something to do with I don't buy much designer I just buy some replicas and jordans and stuff so it might change with seasons. I know supreme shirts have like ss18 and ss17 and shit not sure if they become worth more or less or the same after the season is up. usually once something goes out of stock and there's a demand for it it goes up. way up.

According to the tag, it's from 2015. So I would think it goes up. But the shirt is also pretty simple in design. You couldn't really tell that it's from Gucci either. So I guess that's why?

that doesn't matter it IS gucci therefore it's worth as much as a gucci shirt. trust me designer people won't pay less for something because it's not obvious gucci.

that listing just seems like bull shit to me. why buy something let it sit in the closet for 2 years then sell it for way less but it does happen. i just saw a rapper who was selling all his box logo shirts and some of them he's never worn he might just be a rich fuck emptying out his closet.

i think maybe reddit has a subreddit for autheticating clothes maybe you can upload the images there. it might be worth less because its not a notable gucci shirt or something.

you can see on the gucci website they have a lot of tees and polos that don't have a tiger or the gucci logo plastered right on the front but they sell for a shit ton. also make note that ysl, gucci, etc are all heavily replicated.

also it might be worth less because it did just sit there on a hanger or something? seems like it would retain value if it was kept covered in plastic hanging or something instead of just hanging by itself.

maybe he does just stock up on a ton of shit or something and then knows it wont go for full retail but i'd just be really weary when buying something that expensive

If you're selling clothing that cost 1000$ it's either in poor condition or you're in dire need for money.
Or you just wanna get rid of it.
It makes sense in either instance to sell it for a low price.
