The fertility rate is primarily falling in western developed nations, while it's rising almost everywhere else.
If the world sees a dip in the number of educated westerners born into stable societies and an explosion in the rate of uneducated births in the third world, there will be less people in a position to reduce overall suffering / develop technologies etc to mitigate future suffering, and more people starving, at risk of war + disease etc.

The last thing the world needs is a fall in the population of the developed world.
