As in reduced fallout, an h-bomb doesn’t produce nearly as much as earlier bombs and nuked have never done anything nearly as bad as a meltdown would. The fallout angle is overstated in media, the damage to weather and loss of arable land is more of a worry. Aside from civilisation being destroyed obviously

The fallout is just the radiation, the atmosphere is damaged by the explosion. That many nukes leads to nuclear winter and that shit ain’t fun. That being said the radiation released into the stratosphere has long lasting affects despite the kill you radiation running out after a short amount of time.
