Wait why? That shit is basically just a basic PC that uses the steam in home streaming feature. It doesn't cast your fucking desktop to the TV, just the game you launch using in home streaming. I'd be more worried if you were using a Chrome cast or some shit.

It actually does cast the desktop too.

ID change

Really? Well shit. I have a basic little i3 machine I use for the in home streaming feature and I've never seen that option. Is it a specific feature of the Steam Link or could I be casting my desktop if I wanted?

I haven't tested it with gnu/linux yet but I'm sure it would still work, all you have to do is minimize Big Picture Mode or alt-tab out of it.

That's not how the in home streaming works though. My HTPC is running good Windows 10 like my desktop, and you open steam on it, it shows that my desktop is also online and on the same network, then I select a game and click Stream and it opens the game. Big picture mode doesn't open at all and alt tabbing out just takes me to the HTPC desktop not my main rig desktop. I guess the steam link machine works completely differently.

Hm, maybe it is different. With the Steam Link you select the PC that you're using on your network, then you select a game, and it mirrors all video output from your PC like a chromecast.

Yeh the that's fucked then, I'd be paranoid as well. Thankfully I have my own apartment so I don't give a shit. Why not just power off the Steam Link when you're not using it? Seems like trading a tiny bit of time for it to power on when you go to use it versus having your parents see your degenerate filthy porn would be worth it.

That's what I'm currently doing but I could still leave it on and forget about it
