Are people who collect useless shit autistic?
I don't understand the point of investing money into anything unless its property or resources like gold/oil.

But I thought psa 8 - 10 cards were an investment? Sure, if they are collecting them just to throw them into a box and to look at from time to time, then that is a waste but I thought cards, even yugioh cards would rise?
>I have an investment property, and also own some gold and silver.
Nice man, I am mirin, good work, teach me how to be awesome like you.
>I have a collection of TCG cards made for kids as an investment
Uh, are you a pedo? get away from me, you cringey fuck
True, most of the time it is a waste of money.
I bought a playset of foil champion of the parishs for $5 a few years back and sold them for $22 each now.
I bought a whole bunch of other $1-$5 cards to play with as well and they are not going any where but I had fun with them.
How strange, I think I was watching the same video this past weekend. It's the one where the guy goes through his 25 most valuable/rare Yugioh cards, right?
>I don't understand the point of investing money into anything unless its property or resources like gold/oil.
You must not live a fun life. There are a ton of things that people spend money on just to get enjoyment out of. Ever take a vacation somewhere or attend a concert/sporting event?
Protip: you can't take your money with you once you die.
Speak for yourself, poorfag
Eh, I collect cards, but, I actually intend to use them.
Valuable cards are like wearing gucci; they look nice and get attention.

Are you getting any inheritances at all?
My grandparents and parents both taught me that I should collect shit to pass onto my own, to ensure future generations in the family have it easy.
My grandparents on my fathers side left me and sister and brother $500,000 each, which I bought my home with in cash and invested the rest.
My grandparents on my mothers side are still alive in their late 80s, but they have left us another $750,000 each which will be more by the time they pass.
My grandparents could have spent that money on themselves but they wanted us to have it so we can have a much easier life to not worry about money.
My parents are also following the same path. They have enough money to do a lot of fancy things to throw money at, but they're keeping it so by the time they pass, our own kids (their grandchildren) will be able to inherit from them so they wont have to worry about the property market.
This is how the upper-middle people stay financially secure for generations, those who spend everything they have for the now end up having poor as fuck kids who have to struggle week to week and it takes a miracle for them to get out of that rut.
I used to be this way until I realized that everyone was having fun except for me.
Yes it's called TF2 hats. My most expensive hat sits at just over 200 keys.
collections are fun conversation starters, and they can teach you a lot about something.
it goes without saying that rock collections are objectively the best kind.
There's a difference between "spend everything they have" and not living like a penny-pinching Jew. There's a happy medium between saving and actually buying (or paying to do) things you enjoy during your time alive. Paying for some Yugioh cards (like the OP suggested) isn't going to break the bank and it obviously provided the guy a lot of happiness collecting these cards if he made a fucking Youtube video about it.
Also do you know where you are? You're on r9k. Like half the board won't ever have kids and any $$ we have left over once we die will probably be taken by the government.
Reading this post made me realize how nice life could be if my parents weren't retards who took out a second mortgage on their house to pay for shit I didn't need without telling me, leaving me with basically nothing when they do die, and who saved nothing in advance for a family.
I hope things go well for you, and for your children, but this post really is quite depressing.
I have never seen the point of these things. Don't you guys dream bigger, how do these little faggoty things keep you satiated?
I admire the Greeks, the Romans, the Mongols, the Ottomans, the Franks, or even modern super powers like the United States, the big oil companies, the big tech industries, those are essentially the modern day power of the world. If you own shares in an oil company you're essentially backed by the might of the US military. That is what I want to be apart of, not some bugmen shitty cardboard TCG game or pop vinly's.
Why would they take a second mortgage out? Did you need some serious health treatment or something? If so that makes sense, but if it was for useless shit, then thats pretty dumb.
I got nothing from my parents and had to fend for myself. There was an entire month living alone where I ate nothing but canned tuna with Mac and cheese. I'm almost glad I did get to experience poverty though compared to how some of the rich kids I know turned out.
I know a girl from high school who had all of daddy's money in the world yet is still a drug addicted spoiled retard with a useless nigger bf. Inheiritence is often wasted on those with no real life experience.
That isn't to say I wouldn't help my kids out with things but if they never learn responsibility it's all a waste.
Conversely though I have no problem with people who collect things even if they lack value. It's not always about the money and some poeple just love certain hobbies enough to become super fans.
sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't, it depends on what you mean by "investing" don't you just mean buying? Yugioh cards serve the purpose of playing the game but it's sort of like a stamp collection so if you can understand one you can probably understand the other, gold is useless btw.
I collect magnets from old hard drives. Have around 300 now. Sometimes they are useful. I used one to attach an Ikea PIR light to a wall.
this war on males is relentless
>no fun allowed
Shut the fuck up, boomer fuck.
t. someone who doesn't even collect anything
I'm probably autistic, so yeah. Shit I collect:

>weeb bullshit
>pipes
>mugs/cups
>image macros and screencaps
>gothy bullshit and halloween decorations
>small toys

Not all of the things I have are top notch rarity, but I do have quite a few pieces of oldies.
>autistic
I don't know, never got checked.
and here you are on Jow Forums /robot.
Go tell storys somwhere else
Something like that. I feel i grew out of collecting stuff the same time i started to calm down (16 ish)
>why do people want things I don't care about
You might be autistic, Oh-Pee.
op is actually just fighting his urge to collect things he's embarrassed to say he likes
Vanity and hobbyism. That's all there is to it really. People collect all sorts of shit from playing cards all the way to high art. I mean shit there's even private collections decomissioned tanks and everything too, people like to collect different things from their hobbies.
>Are people who collect useless shit autistic?
I got rid of my yugioh cards years ago and i regret it, i wish i would have just kept them
>leaving me with basically nothing when they do die
Why should you get anything they worked for when they die? Why shouldnt they spend it all and enjoy it when they can?
Because you can actually buy cards and have fun, but you'll never be the president of an oil company. It's not that hard
lmao, collecting money for the sake of it is the same as collecting yu-gi-oh cards. Life has no meaning, we just need to do something in the meantime.
You are on Jow Forums, and you give a shit about what normalslime think?
>I dont understand the point of investing money
buy low, sell high = profit, user. you'd do well to learn this.
I suppose it's just the gratification of having shit isn't it. Im perhaps a bit too materialistic, and I've bought dumb shit I'd rather have the money now instead of. But I unashamedly like stuff. I like nicknacks and clutter. I collect taxidermy butterflies and moths, creepy vintage soft toys, 80s my little ponies, old consoles. I hoard candles and books and house plants, I pick up rocks from the beach, find them months later and wonder why the fuck I took them. But keep them all the same.
It's just little things that give you a small rush of gratification. It's very human.
I have around 500 dollars worth of d&d miniatures. I use my collection every week and its value will only grow with time. Still got like 20 grand in the bank, too. Checkmate faggot.
I collect old retro consoles and hotwheels cars, also music cds and vinyls
I think everyone likes to collect to some extent. It's very satisfying for me and I would probably kms if I didn't have a steady stream of stuff coming in the mail. I would say moderate collecting isn't anymore autistic than any other hobby, but people with huge fuck off collections probably have some form of OCD or autism that compels to hyper focus on it.
Not everyone cares about getting rich and prefer doing what they enjoy.
Having a collection of something is fun and satisfying
I buy some cards for my yugioh deck every month and it just feels good to have your deck play smoother, have more foil cards and increase it's value.
>tfw 6 of my cards almost doubled in price last month
Yugioh isn't useless shit, it's fun
Good to see users on r9k enjoy Yugioh.
Recently sold my collection would it be worth it to buy into the game and play SPYRAL or ninjas? The new ninja link support looks interesting and the ash blossom reprint is welcome.
spyrals aren't that bad and i've seen some variants where you actually prefer going second rather than first which is nice (game isn't decided at cointoss)
Not sure about ninjas
>gave away my Gen 1 Yu-gi-oh cards to some kid I had known for 10 minutes, cause he said he liked Yu-gi-oh
Fuck me man. I hate being so impulsive and nice
This is the same stupid logic that retards put towards those funko pop toys
>I spend $20 on this now, it might be worth $40 in 40 years when $20 inflates to $40 anyway
>WOW I MADE $1 PROFIT
chances are you're just hoarding crap
this thread is funny because the only thing i actually find myself collecting are those golden dollar coins and silver dollars.
it's like finding actual gold and silver for me and it's actually currency. it feels different than collecting other junk.
If you know how to read the meta you can make a decent amount of money. Buyouts are done all the time as well on older cards due to shifts in the meta or speculation. One being appointer of the red lotus or luster pendulum the dracoslayer. If you stocked up on luster you could easily make $4 profit on each since everyone and their mother needed a playset.
I think it depends on the collectability of their shit as well as how extensive the collection is. Shit like having full sets of Pokemon cards including errors and both first editions and unlimited and holos and non is ridiculous and most likely autism. Simply having a Pokemon card collection is much less so, in that cards are designed to be collected. Collecting retarded tchochkes like bottle caps or buttons or something is inherently autistic.
Still have my spyral core around. Do i need to buy the knightmare core and some evenly matches?
I have a lot of collections and I'm proud of all of them, and I don't think any of them are "useless".
