Its perceived that way because the (media) pushes this whole thin idea and some people get too deep into the rabbit hole of trying to be as thin as can be. Women get pretty damn vain about their looks and there are countless stories one sees about this happening where a girl goes bulimic and thinks she is some top model. Im not saying being fat is good, but there is a healthy slight pudge that is in no way detrimental to one's health as a girl needs that for childbirth, and even a men need that.
