Damn what's wrong with me for not using a giant, heavy, power sucking, room heating montrosity. Degauss that shit nigga

tfw i was almost about to be made homeless because my benefits were cut, i gave away / dumped all my shit, 12 years worth of shit.

One of the items I gave away for nothing was a giant CRT monitor from back in the day a really fucking big one, that was still functioning.

Recently looked them up on ebay, something like that would've sold for shit loads :(

I am, though. CRTs are great for reading visual novels since a lot of them use lower resolutions, and with a CRT you can play them in full screen without stuff looking blurry.

i should mention it was one of the really decent CRTs also, can't remember the specs but it was top of the line and i bought it at a good price after all the flat screen lcds were made available :(

because they can display color alot better than any LCD, they have much better black levels than any LCD. they also have input lag somewhere in the microseconds, LCDs litterally have 1000 times as much input lag due to having to map the signals to a matrix of pixels.

Do they make modern crt monitors yet? Surely it's a big enough meme for someone to be making a thinner and more efficient CRT monitor for the hardcore gamer audience

i left everything until the last minute, no time, i thought no one would pay for these massive bulky CRTs anymore.

well actually i dont know if that would work out very well since there would be more of a difference in distance that the electrons have to travel in the tube to reach the phosphor layer at the end of the tube.

I have to move a lot and like having big screens and high resolutions more than whatever tiny difference in color and response time pro gaymers need.

hmm well im pretty sure that electrons can travel at 300 million m/sec in a complete vacuum, a CRT monitor has a vacuum inside the tube, though depending on how good of a vacuum it is, the speed of electricity would be different.
currently my horizontal refresh rate is 91KHz and my vertical is 85Hz.
so with my current horizontal refresh rate there is a gap of about 10 microseconds for the electrons to go from the electron gun to the phosphor layer. the distance between the electron gun and phosphor layer is about 0.45 - 0.5 meters, assuming the CRT tube has a perfect vacuum then it will take about 1.5 - 1.67 nanoseconds to reach the end of the tube.
basically then the difference between electron travel times in a shorter tube would be negligable and if thats the only thing that changes then there should be no noticable difference on the display.

also another thing though is that for there to be a shorter tube, the electrons need to spread wider, which means that there would need to be stronger controlling magnets in the tube.
