Even though it is practice, considering they're probably going into it to try and make friends I think they're just setting themselves up for disappointing results, the kind of people that are active on Discord servers are pretty much the norms of the internet and they will already have established cliques. I've tried joining a server myself before but jumping into a room with a bunch of people I don't know was just weird and I couldn't relate to any of them nevermind getting a conversation going with them.

I made my only friend in like the the last decade by talking to them on Jow Forums for a while before moving it to Discord, I always thought I was just very bad at conversation but it taught me that a lot of it just depends on the kind of person you're talking with, I was just lucky enough to find someone similar to me.
