Jow Forums addiction

What is it about this site/imageboards that makes it so addicting? I don't even think I enjoy much of the content here but I can't seem to stop mindlessly browsing through all of the mundane shit here. I keep telling myself that I hate it here but I just don't do anything about it.

The combination of words and image reaction make it similar to socializing, more-so than just looking at words or just looking at pictures.
Or at least that's my prediction.

Plus the simplicity, it's not all over the place like other sites that throw a million sidebars at you. This is literally just boxes on a plain background.

social interaction without consequences

you can say whatever you wanted to say that you couldn't in a place where you had a name.
as a result you get used to speaking your mind, which makes you feel comfortable.
you get comfort from talking to a box that won't judge you but will talk back

It's the purest form of interaction, aside from tripfags.

Fuck you say dawg

This place is shit but everywhere else is even shittier.

Don't give this faggot (You)'s

People from all over the world putting their minds on screen. A heavy flow of data.

Normalfags go out with their friends, I stay here with you guys.
It kinda sounds sad, but it isn't. It's comfy.

Aside from the functionality and the purpose of imageboards, it feels to me like there's a general "feel" that tends to draw me and other anons here, though I wouldn't know if this is just me conditioning myself by daily visiting here to the point where I just automatically open the site whenever I turn on the PC. I feel like there's something more just than being anonymous that draws people here.

(You)s of course.

normalfags love groupthink
people who are alienated from the group because they disagree with the groupthink don't feel like it's worth it to speak their mind so they go here to do it.

that develops into a tribe mentality where feeling welcome here is essentially feeling ostracized from normalfags by definition

What you're feeling is the lack of upboats/points/post count. It's freedom. People can say whatever they want, for better or for worse. This leads to more "real" posts and less "obligatory" posts.

Not all boards are the same, but honestly all the porn spam and soft core spam is a component

Is there not groupthink around here too? Of course it's much more when you have an identity, but the fact that you need (though I wouldn't say it's obligatory, because no one is forcing you) to get accustomed to board culture and the general kinds of posts would indicate that you must adopt some sort of herd mentality to "understand board culture".

Looking forward to comfy posting all fall and winter with you lads again
Nice pepe user

what if i only lurk user

Here's your fix, you damn (You) junkie.

Jow Forums is the only consistent thing in my life, I love my fellow anons

it's not Jow Forums I'm addicted to, it's something else entirely.

Yeah, board culture is a form of groupthink.
I'd say a lot of it actually comes out of the memetic properties of image boards. People tend to repeat shit that's low effort and generates lots of discussion.

in r9k a lot of it is influence by discord jew psyops though.

have you ever watched a tv show where you felt immersed?

this is the same thing

Yes there is groupthink here as well. However, the lack of upboats/post history means nobody knows if you participate in the groupthink, or if you are "ironically" participating, or if you disagree completely. If you fuck up and misunderstand board culture, nothing happens. Thread gets deleted or archived, everybody moves on. Nobody knows it's you. Do you see the point? It's freedom.

Open up a reddit post and you can pretty easily guess the top 3 replies, because it's all for upboats. Open up some retarded thread on /b/ and you will never be able to guess the first 3 replies. Sure, images get reposted and some boards often have the same thread with similar replies on a regular basis, but the freedom remains. I could go to Path of Exile general on /vg/ right now and shit up the thread telling them all they need to make new characters to fix their loot seed. I can't go to r/pathofexile and do the same, because I'd have to make an account or new accounts as they deleted/banned me. You have freedom here, everyone has freedom here.

For me, it's novelty. Refreshing the catalog is addicting because it's interesting to see what sort of threads you will find, even if you have to search through a lot of garbage to find anything decent. My brain's already used to releasing dopamine at the mere anticipation of getting some new information. YouTube's addicting for the same reason since it has personalized recommendations that make you keep coming back.

you for you user? ;)

(You) are my hero and I love you UwU

Because the majority of Jow Forums users are bitter lonely people with no family of their own or real friends so they come here to ignore their harsh reality even if it only lasts a few hours

Essentially this. I'm free to say pretty much anything here no-holds-bar without having to worry, and I get to discuss things with like-minded people who have the same freedom. Throw in the memes and all the different images and the fact that I'm a sperg who can't socialize in real life and this fills in the void, and you get an addiction.

People tell the truth here.
