/NightWalk/

This thread is for the discussion/sharing of night walk photos and experiences. Flaneur discussion is welcome as well. Keep it comfy everyone.

What's a Flaneur?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flâneur

Basically an urban explorer or one who walks leisurely with no destination in mind.

Flaneur/walking tour Youtube channels (recommendations are welcome. I mostly watch tours of Asian cities):

Some nightwalk tips:

Prepare for the weather.
Bring a snack or drink.
Make a playlist ahead of time.
Do some simple stretching before hand.
Explore somewhere new.
Be cautious of your surroundings.
Have a relaxed/comfy mindset.

How's everyone doing tonight? Did you go on a nightwalk recently? Plan on taking one tonight?

>tfw still didn't get another bike so i can nightride

why did that person have to steal. It was a shit rust bucket and it was locked up. What was the point?

Some people are that desperate or wicked. They enjoy other peoples suffering.

I really want to know where the bike is now.

Seriously, it was a fucking 10 year old walmart bike rusted up. Who the fuck would want it? Maybe $30 worth of parts, but literally who would need that? I feel like I was targeted.

Sorry for going off topic on this thread. I might nightwalk myself soon. 1am is prime nightwalking time.

I hope you get a new bike soon. No nightwalk for me sadly. Tomorrow i might do one but friday walks are different. Especially on a college campus where normies go out late at night.

Weather has cleared up so Im gonna take my first nightwalk tomorrow

Wish me luck

I hope you enjoy it. Its a great way to get exercise and helps ease your mind.

Would anyone be interested if I posted webms from my nightwalks in the ghetto?

I'd be interested. Stay safe.

>live in san bernardino
>ghetto
>meet passerby on bike named cj
>share smokes (he asks for 2)
>talk about his (possible son)
>asks if he wants to smoke weee
>no thanks

Thats why i dont go out

I meant he asked me if I wanted to smoke his weed with him out of my bong. He also said next time he sees me he'll get my number or email. Sure, man.

Must be tough for anons who live in the ghettos. I haven't meet any strangers on my night walks.

Tfw live in poor drug addicted suburb so I cant /nightwalk/
What do bros. I can walk during the day but it just isnt the same

I just walked down to the beach and smoked a joint on the last rock of this comfy jetty thats got a nice view even at midnight

nightbumping

If you value your life or health then I strongly suggest not walking out at night

>TQ
It's been a long time since I took a nightwalk. That time was also the most creative time of my life. Not planning one tonight to fix my sleep cycle and I have plans this weekend

maybe 2 months ago over the summer here, I went out on a drunken nightwalk with just a packet of cigs and a lighter, incase I got mugged like.

Then I got to a 3 younger guys (around 20), immediately thought I was about to get mugged, so.. I sat down on the bench. Right next to them. The logic was to 'show them I was a local, and was indifferent to them'

2 of them were polish and the other from Scotland, who met eachother about an hour before.

we were all drunk so this helped the conversation, we walked about the city drinking and shooting shit, talking about 'our stories' and how they found themselves in this country or situation or whatever. and they shared their weed with me. it was actually really fun. The most fun I've had with people in years i think.

i sperged out when we started getting into an area i didnt recognise and split, the scot gave me his telegram but i lost it. went out looking for him the next 2 weeks on the same night but nada.

that's my /nightwalk/ story.

I don't socialise very much at all

Just moved to Riverside to my parents, it's just neighborhood upon neighborhood. Only saw one other person walking over 3 my hours, visited 5 different parks, not a single group of teens smoking weed or fucking around on a playground? What a lazy generation, anons.

Found a comfy public hill to chill at. Can hear 3 cop cars going off in the distance.
Any /riverside/ bots up for a beer?

Attached: Screenshot_2018-09-28-00-44-28.png (1280x720, 759K)

Ill ask everytime I see these threads, are there any anons in the San Joaquin Valley (preferably Modesto) that would like to plan for weekly /nightwalks/? I feel like I'm going to go fucking crazy if i dont get any change in my life soon

Attached: 1537214364561.gif (500x379, 1.13M)

working on some stuff sipping canned coffee tonight but I'll be out tomorrow. Stay safe guys, and post some pictures if you can.

Im out in California now, at a Mad Max festival called Wasteland Weekend. They get really exciting around the night time, but my mom had locked the keys in the car and we had to wait for a dude to get them out (didnt even end up finding them in the car, another camp found them). While I was waiting, I took a night walk, and got probably one of my favorite pictures Ive ever taken. Looking forward to getting more tomorrow night.

can we have a dsicord or IRC channel for this? gone are the days I used to lurk r9k, but I'm glad we finally have /nightwalk/ I'm happy to make one if someone wants. Just say discord or IRC

Attached: hebei11.jpg (1067x600, 115K)

Heres another fun nightwalk pic from a little while back. I ran into two guys, and I guess I must have been looking at them cock-eyed because they told me upfront they werent gonna hurt me.

Flaneur sounds comfy except where I am most of the stuff to see are strip malls, stores, and gas stations. The cool stuff is downtown but you need a car to get around.

Attached: wdxhZYj.jpg (4032x3024, 607K)

Guys you should combine your nightwalks with Photography. IT can be really comfy and also give you more reasons to go out at night.
Additionally the process of developing pictures which were taken on film is really cofmy

Attached: 0017_17w.jpg (1000x1000, 454K)

A couple of pictures which were taken on Kodak Color 200 (if i'm not mistaken)

Attached: 2342342w.jpg (1000x1000, 511K)

it would be nice in theory. If you really wanted to irc is less cancerous, but chances are either would end up dead after not too long.
So really, these threads are good enough I think.

fellow /p/hotographer? I decided to quit /p/, mostly overrun with gearfags now but my thread is still up.

how about a Signal group instead? private, mobile, media sharing and potentially could make friends?

I quit r9k after 5-6 years, with all the nonsense on here now it feels so redundant, but seeing this thread made me happy to konw there are other like minded people on here.

Yeah been on /p/ for quite some time, but i don't post there anymore. As you mentioned - partially the fault of all the gear fags and also the highly toxic community. Like seriously it makes absolutely no fun to post your pictures there. I'm open for criticism and everything, but this is just ridiculous

Attached: Vollmond Rathaus.jpg (1000x1000, 157K)

Whats an affordable film camera for a broke robot? Do you pay somebody to develop the pictures?

Attached: tumblr_oxzydfuGsv1wouj45o1_500.jpg (500x625, 119K)

don't be scared of other nightwalkers.

even if you're white, if you walk around at night, you're just like them.

>Walk to park
>(At night of course)
>Sit on bench.
>Smoke cig.
>Live in nice side of town so no homeless.
>Hate myself for smoking.
>See light hint of the stars above.
>Walk home.
To me it's all about the journey.

btw user seriously nice photos, feel free to r8 mine hell I'd appreciate it if you did. I'm really excited now I found this thread, makes me really want to get out more often.

Not him but I have a decent cheap film camera called Minolta Uniomat, nzd40 but doesnt really matter what film camera you get, they're just light boxes anyway

Attached: gor12.jpg (1067x600, 89K)

I can recommend you pretty much every camera that is aviable on the market!
Well i'm using the Yashica FX-D Quartz (extremly comfy little camera) with a 50mm f1.7 yashica lense. (i also have some more lenses, but you're good to go with this setup. Sadly Analogue photography is kinda expensive and a horrible rabbit hole to stumble into.
Yes i'm paying someone to develop the negative and also to scan it. As far as i know there are many really cheap negative developing services. (1Euro for 1 roll) and about 0.12 Cent per scanned picture. Which is a net cost (+5 Euro for 1 Film Roll with 36 Pictures) of 10Euro per 36 pictures.

There are many other alternatives, but photography in general can be really rewarding as soon as you are past the "i don't know the technical aspects or how exposure works) aspect

Attached: 0016_21A.jpg (1000x1000, 257K)

ok fuck it made a group on Signal if anyone wants to join.
its called /nightwalk/ - my number is +64221508364

You have excellent pictures, but you shouldn't waste your time by posting on /p/. As you can see many of the pictures which you posted didn't even got a single reply. I have moved onto small photography forums and stopped altogether with posting on /p/ (just once every 3 months or so). Local communities are much more fun and you get some actual criticism. The likehood of meeting someone there who can be your friend is also far greater.

Attached: 0008_29.jpg (1000x1000, 149K)

thanks user
>The likehood of meeting someone there who can be your friend is also far greater.
I absolutely agree, although I've been lucky to meet a few people off /p/ a few years back. One of them's now a really good friend, others are internationally based but still. Thats the only reason I still keep hope for that board.

>tfw no comfy job in a dark room developing photographs

Thanks for the answers anons. I wanted to throw $300 on DSLR but analogue is where is at. The images have such a comfy fuzziness, it reminds of those old vhs national geographic documentaries.
What's the learning curve like for analogue photography?

Attached: MEX254_Arp-ZEBRA_Fluorescences-Video_MS-News-PostArtboard-1.png (1272x714, 1.23M)

So if any of the photograph anons are still lurking here, I just saw pic related on ebay. Should I go for it?

Attached: Screenshot_2018-09-28-05-29-34.png (1280x800, 253K)

Well the likehood of learning Photography instead of "photography" is far greater with analogue. It forces you to understand it, otherwise your pictures will turn out underexposed and you just wasted some money on a black picture. There are much more good analogue cameras on the market, but the yashica absolutely gets the job done. If you really want to get into it, be sure to understand what every button on the camera is good for (google yashica FX-d quarth manual.pdf) and then understand how Exposure works (exposure triangle) as soon as you're past that point you will probably love photography.

M8 just go for it i mean 20 bucks for a camera + lense? why the fuck not. Every picture that i've posted here was taken with my yashica, besides this one,
which was taken with my Nikon D7100.
Hell my first camera was the Nikon D80 (which is also a really comfy camera)

Attached: 0003_0Aw.jpg (1000x1000, 297K)

film photography takes a while to get used to compared to digital. I used to be the film adivsor at my university's photo club and I couldn't help but steer new people away from it because of that learning curve and financial investment. Buy any old dslr, it'll do the job fine. I'll help with basic settings too if you'd like. Although if you wanna do some really cheap film work, get HP5 film, its black and white, and you can get your own DIY developing kit with a dark bag (lightproof bag) to do it at home.

it's a great deal although you'll need to buy a smaller lens (look for 50mm f1.8 or 35mm f2) for it, which are usually cheap too but if you wait a a few mins I'll find a decent deal for you.

Any Hong Kong fags in here? Just moved here last month and have been wandering around at night.

Attached: MVIMG_20180926_192233 1.jpg (1920x1440, 1.23M)

also as mentioned the d80 is a really decent cop, esp for its price now that with an old 35/2 or something is just fantastic

also regarding film camera here's what mine looks like

Attached: Screenshot 2018-09-28 at 22.31.11.jpg (1474x978, 205K)

Got another one from a little while back

Attached: imge 2.jpg (1920x1440, 1.38M)

Yeh you can take wonderful pictures with the Nikon D80. I used that camera for 9 months with just a 50mm prime lense.

Attached: P Picture 11.jpg (612x1000, 523K)

This is one of the first landscape pictures that i have ever taken. Without a tripod or remote shutter realease

Attached: P Picture 17.jpg (1001x679, 834K)

lot of californians, anyone /victorville/ /hesperia/ /applevalley/?

looks like amsterdam, pardon my ignorance but i've only been to netherlands in mainland europe, I know lots of places look like that but really reminds me of it. I mean regardless, thats really comfy photo user.

i know they aren't /nightwalk/ anymore, but i just have to show you the capabilities of a 13y old camera (which i didn't extend, since it was my first camera)

Attached: P Picture 7.jpg (671x999, 988K)

Just get out of here here man. This max comfy night time walk gets me jelly in a good way. This pic kinda looks melty, how things look like when you take 2cb. Out here in Texas the night time is just empty, dark, souless streets.
So I've been saving up a budget of $300 for a DSLR but this thread has made me fall in love with analogue. How far do you guys think $300 would get me? I know absolutely nothing about photography, but I got plenty of time to learn.

how are the streets there in the early morning?

Early morning is chill. Any time between 3am-5am is nice. Nightlife here is insane so there's always packed streets before those times. Any area near smaller villages have some nice hiking trails too.
Pretty chill place, everyone keeps to themselves except near the bar/club streets.

nightwalker and photographer here. maybe it's where i'm walking but i don't really see any reason to bring my camera out most of the time. the types of images that i can capture are pretty limited unless i carry a tripod and always make me wish i did have one anyway.

Well the other user wants to bring you away from analogue, while i'm trying to get you to analogue photography.
You won't need something fancy desu, which is why the yashica is excellent. Sure you can go overkill and buy a rollei 35 or some shit, but other really good cameras are:
>Canon AE 1
>Olympus OM-2
>Nikon FE

I would recommend you to look into the topic a bit more and then decide whatever might fit your needs. The Yashica FX-d quartz has an "exposure helper" which is a tiny dot in the viewfinder that shows you what exposure is recommended in the situation. You don't have to use it, but it is definetly useful as a newbie. As far as i know there are also other cameras that are "better" than the yashica which i'm using.
camera-wiki.org/wiki/Yashica_FX-D
Just read about it yourself.

If i had 300 bucks to spend i would get myself:
>Yashica (or a different camera for the same price)
>3 lenses: 50mm prime f 1.7 / 28-70mm f2.8 / 70-210mm f4
>Film (buying packs from ebay is cheaper)
>a mini tripod (there are some really good ones for 20 bucks that fit in your pocket (i'm using this one and it was one of the best investments i've ever done )
enjoyyourcamera.com/Stative/Ministative-Tischstative/Rollei-Mini-Outdoor-Plus-Ministativ-inkl-Kugelneiger-und-Hochformatkerbe-Hoehe-14-cm::13897.html
>remote shutter (cable release)
>and just keep the rest to cover the developing costs

Also if there are any camera shops in your area, make sure to talk to these guys about film / developing. They can tell you how much it costs in your area

Attached: Straße in Keppendorf.jpg (1000x1000, 348K)

>$300
I take it that it's usd? honestly fuck it just get that $20 deal. Practice exposure and composition and shit on your phone first, easiest part about night time photography is that exposure is simple, so it wont cost you too much. This may not make any sense to you right now but take this as a note: for night time wiht streetlights/car lights/etc use f1.8-f4 and shutter speed of 1/30-1/80s if you're doing casual walk and shoot (so anything BUT long exposure like ) by walk and shoot i mean normal shit like , this was f2.5 @1/60s, lastly don't ever be afraid of grainy/noisy photos or fall into the gearfaggotry trap

I think I'm over explaining it but its a lot easeir than I make it seem haha. Read for DIY developing. Spend minimum on camera, a bit more on a lens and save up for more film and developer.

I travel the world with one camera and one lens - (regardless of digital/analog) having a prime lens (one that doesnt zoom) will be easier to hold and take photos.

I feel bad for over-diong this whole thing but take what you will form it. I'm gonna head off and as much as I'd hate to, I'll proabbly forget about this thread by tomorrow, I pray I dont though. My signal contact is up there if you or anyone wants to ask questions or share photos/playlists etc.

Other than that user, glhf, peace.

Attached: IMG_9653.jpg (2560x1440, 151K)

Thanks for the advice anons. Hope to see you guys around. I'm going to do research on analogue and see where that takes me. Maybe some day I'll be able to post a few comfy night time photographs of my own.

Nightriding on a commuter scooter is where its at.

Good luck on your journey user, it's always nice to hear that someone is interested in photography!
(not that meme kind, which is posted on masses on instagram). Instagram has some good analogue photography sites which are really comfy, just to name afew:
instagram.com/weltraummagazine
instagram.com/solarcollective/
instagram.com/analogue_people/
instagram.com/film.wave/
instagram.com/the.analog.club/
instagram.com/f1rstoftheroll/
instagram.com/35mm_look/

There are many more of course, but i use to lurke these ones (some of them even like my pictures which is kinda a nice feeling. Mostly because i got inspired by them years ago and now they use to like my pictures)

Attached: 0015_19A.jpg (1000x1000, 238K)

>tfw you already explored practically every corner of your greater neighbourhood

Attached: hmmiwonder.png (600x400, 158K)

walking around a city at night sounds like the opposite of comfy, if I were to go on a night walk, it would be going out into the woods, hills, anywhere rural and isolated. Why would anybody want to go out for a nice walk when full of bright lights, cars and people? it's beyond me

I'm to scared of waking up neighbours and confrontation, i live in a rural town and live about 17 kms out of my town so i'd be waling in my smaller suberb

#
Ask him if he has a brother named Sweet

i had a nice /nightwalk/ with a couple friends last summer
>summer after senior year of hs
>can't sleep
>go on discord
>2 friends on there
>ask them to meet
>meet at local park
>walk around and shoot the shit
>really fun
>get to watch the sun go up

haven't been able to get these kind of feels here in uni, just don't have the time

Incredible photo, user

It has its own element of comfiness. Its the contrast of the bustling of thousands of people combined with loud noise and heavy vehicle traffic to completely empty streets, no traffic and only the sound of the lights buzzing from the lamp posts.

>no where nice to walk in this sprawly suburban shithole of a town
>downtown is full of crazy hobos
>no riverfront

Gonna bump for fun

Sehr nice!
