Heyo, friends of mine! How're you doing this fine Friday? What's on your mind?

What doesn't kill you only makes you stranger.

I know that widely-recognized quote! I'm excited for this Joaquin Phoenix feature, I'm hoping it'll be as low-key as they're building it up (down?) to be.
It's never too late to give up
I feel like shit. My life is going nowhere and for the umpteenth time i've completely blocked myself off from everyone. It's for the best.
As gay as it sounds, the only thing about Fridays I like is that I usually have off from work and I'll dress nicely and do some errands.
That's very true, my friend. However, "it's never too late to find contentment" holds just as much weight!
Going nowhere is a relative term, my guy! Have you been stifled in your efforts to try new things and find means of growing as an individual? I have no doubt that there are many opportunities of your liking lurking around the corner if you're willing to seek them out. That's very cool, there's nothing lame about taking pride in an opportunity to put on some sweet duds and go about town!
I need to write a 4 to 6 page report. I don't wanna. Just been dicking around here the whole day. I'm gonna watch some movies though. Under the Skin and the second story in Chunking Express.
I have a date tonight with my gf but it was after our first real fight so I feel nervous and awkward about it. We recovered but I still struggle from the cause of the argument which is me thinking I'm not good enough for her. Getting over self hatred is a lot harder than I thought, even after someone constantly tells me they find me attractive and that they are in love with me, I still can't believe it.
Procrastination comes naturally to me as well. What's the paper on, my man? Ubder the Skin was stellar in my opinion, though a little slow at times.
It's on a piece of US foreign policy in Asia of my own choosing. Planning to write it over the course of this weekend. I started the movie last night but didn't finish because I took an hour long fap break.
Excessive humility is not the most damning of traits, my friend. However, that isn't to say that you should make a constant and sincere effort to better your self-advocacy. You clearly possess the self-reflection and articulate nature of a powerful mind. If your girlfriend truly cares for you, which your modicum of pretext leads me to believe she does, this will be a minor and forgettable point of your time together.
Can it be within a historical context? You could touch on Richard Nixon's effort to rehabilitate U.S. relations with China in the early seventies. You gotta do what you gotta do, dude. I just barely trudged through "The Fellowship of the Ring" last night.
It's a neat topic but I'm gonna do it over the TPP because I'm a bit more familiar with it.
Very cool, my man! I have near no familiarity with international policy but I'm doubtless that you'll nail it.
hey op. I was talking to this qt3.14 in my law class because she seemed cool. She offered me to come to her house and smoke weed, I thought was into me. but when I got there she told me I looked like her boyfriend and that she used be a coke addict.
>my taste in women
Sorry to hear that your romantic hopes didn't pan out, my dude. That said, if she was willing to share her bud with you, I feel there's no reason that her relationship or former habits should bar her from being a decent friend. Unless she was hitting on you, in which case it may be somewhat immoral to spend time with her given the boyfriend.
Where's this picture from? Also, nice thread op, you seem like a great guy.
I believe it's one if the background paintings from a Hayao Miyazaki movie, but I'm not sure which. I appreciate that, dude! I've got my strengths and flaws like everybody else. G
Forgot to include a sweet piece of art!
I looked at some cows. it was a good friday
Cows are pretty cool animals, though I feel I've never given them enough appreciation. Was this a circumstantial thing or purely for your own enjoyment?
Thanks, friendly user. You're right that she's a decent friend. We've gone for lunch a few times so far and she's pretty interesting. I've never even seen cocaine in person before but I also used to be addicted to harder drugs so we have a lot to talk about. I don't know, it just feels bad to think someone is into you and then find out they only like you as a friend. And yeah, I stopped flirting with her when I heard she had a boyfriend. I'm not trying to wreck some poor dudes relationship.
I went for a walk and there were some highland cattle along the way!
are you keen on landscapes?
That's the spirit, my dude. You should maintain your friendship as long as it's mutually-beneficial, because it sounds as though you have a lot in common. It is a tough conclusion to come to, but it's both experience and an opportunity to better understand your relationship with others. You're certain to find other, and more mutual, romantic opportunities as time goes on.
Indeed I am, my friend! I'm not quite the photography type, but here's one I took in my local area somewhat recently.
cool! that picture has a kind of reformation low countries landscape vibe, especially with the centered gnarly tree. a centered tree like that would sometimes imply a cross, but not actually be a cross bc of iconoclasm
Woah-ho! That's quite the interpretation. It is a beautiful area, and rich with prehistorical and historical relevance.
Nice picture dude! What country is it?
Man I have so much to do today, but I just want to lie in my comfy bed and surf the web. Is that really so bad?
here's an example of an implied golgotha scene. I might be wrong about the motif being dutch though. idk much art history desu
Good advice kind user. I always like having friends to talk with who are interested in the same things as me and she's relatively smart for an ex-coke addict. She asked me if I had a girlfriend and got surprised when I said no. I'm six foot, average looks, I play a few instruments well and I'm a pretty normal guy besides social anxiety. I've never had a girlfriend before and it's mostly because the girls I've liked are always in relationships. feels bad man
>they always think I'm a great guy though
here is another example. albrecht altdorfer also uses the central gnarled tree a lot
It's the Southern Appalachia area of the United States!
Don't fret, friend. There will be time to be productive. Just be cautious not to mire yourself in creature comforts for too long!
Ah, I see, with the connotation of triple crosses I'm assuming? It's very cool and it seems you have a more extensive knowledge than you may admit!
I wouldn't say there's necessarily a correlation between a lack of intelligence and addictive tendencies. Those seem to occupy different neurological realms. A few instruments, you say? That's badass, my man! What instruments in particular?
this is a good thread from a jolly user
I apppreciate it, my luminous friend!
>I wouldn't say there's necessarily a correlation between a lack of intelligence and addictive tendencies
yeah I agree, I just meant that a lot of the cocaine addicts I've met have some kind of brain damage. Everyone in my shitty city shoots it up or freebases, it's sad stuff. I've had guitar lessons for about ten years and I like to play instruments that are similar to guitars. Mostly mandolin, bass and balalaika but I took piano lessons for a few weeks as a kid. I taught myself everything else I learned about the piano from theory books. I also have some harmonica's, a recorder and a flute. I'm not a great singer but I really like to sing.
Ah, I see, that's a very sound reasoning. I've always wondered sights in the city might weigh on my mind. That very impressive, my guy! The mandolin is a well-appreciated instrument around my area and, in my opinion, it takes quite a bit of skill to play.
OP, I like your pictures. Can you recommend any more art/film etc that gives the same sort of feeling as when looking at these mystical landscapes
>about to buy new phone
Feels so good. My old one served me well, but its barely functional at this point
you're very encouraging, user. How would you recommend I find an interesting and nice girl? I don't really like parties and I don't like one stands. I want a girl who will listen to music with me and actually have things to say.
Oh and also if you wanna know about city life, earlier today outside one of my classes a guy was rolling on the ground, punching things that didn't exist and screaming. All while five people and a cop watched without holding his head off the concrete.
Thanks, my man! I would suggest the animated films of Hayao Miyazaki as well as Samurai Champloo by Shinchiro Watanabe, though the latter may not be for those looking for visual art alone. Most of the pieces I've posted are ukiyo-e woodblock prints in the shin hanga style. There's a German (or maybe Austrian) illustrator who also has work you may enjoy, give me a bit to find his name.
Congrats, my guy! I hope your new device serves you well in the years to come.
There are innumerable environments in which you can flex your charm, my friend! I have to admit that I'm a big fan of hanging out at the bar, though how conducive that is to meeting a romantic partner is very dependent on the situation. I'm a bit wary of the increasingly-digital nature of relationships, but I can't deny that I've had fair luck with mediums like Tinder. It might be best for you to seek romance in areas outside of your comfort zone - you never know what environments you might be at home in.
I'm preparing an adventure for a TTRPG.
That's wild! I can't imagine such a lack of intervention or personal involvement in the country. My sympathies to that poor fella, be he drug addict, cognitively disabled, or otherwise unfortunate.
bro where do you get these images from? THey're very nice.
Oh shit, this is a serendipidious post! I was just discussing with a friend whether we should purchase the Dark Souls tabletop or just build a narrative around a more established game like DnD. What do you play? Any advice for an especially green newcomer?
most of the major fast food places in that downtown area have syringe-disposals in their washrooms. I'd bet that he OD'd on some heavy shit. By the way, I'm in Canada.
Look up "shin hanga" on Google images and I'm sure you'll find some things you enjoy!
Playing minecraft and listening to lofi
I suppose it just comes with the territory. What part of Canada, if you don't mind me asking? I've been planning a trip with a backpack buddy of mine for parts of BC.
My man, I love lo-fi! I play it at work all the time.
South Ontario near Niagara Falls, basically the U.S of Canada. The northern territories are really cozy and working class but every urban place in Ontario is full of homeless people, addicts, violent idiots, immigrants who don't speak French or English and people who feel disenfranchised.
Have you given any thought to a move? I went to Niagara Falls with my family a good while back, some drunk fellas yelled at me off their porch! I enjoyed it otherwise, though.
I started with DnD 3rd edition, then moved to 5e. They're very simple to understand and so are pretty easy to get into. However that very simplicity also makes them pretty unsatisfactory for certain things in my opinion. Combat feels too simple, since mostly you roll to hit, and roll a single D20, then add all your modifiers, and then if you surpass the target's AC (Armor Class, the armor value) you deal Dwhatever damage. I'm not a terribly big fan of the all or nothing approach to armor, or the inability to parry or block. Shields are just a passive increase to your AC instead of something you actively use to deflect blows.
Mythras is better about that, and other things as well, like magic. Like DnD, it's rather easy to understand, but better made imo.
Now a really interesting one that is still in development is Song of Swords. It's not officially released because the editor works at a snail's pace or something, but the beta is available for free on their webpage. It doesn't have any magic system yet, but it has some interesting looking fighting mechanics. It uses dice pools, and every round you allocate your dice to whatever action you want to make. Damage isn't done by overall hit points but instead wound levels to specific body parts, so you can lose specific parts like a hand or an eye. It also doesn't have levels and XP that you just get for doing things, it's more narrative focused. Essentially you have "Arcs." When first making your character, you come up with his desires and ambitions, his fears, etc. You progress your character by completing things relating to those goals, hopes and fears. Although I've read the system book, I haven't actually played it though, since my players don't just want to drop everything and try something else in the middle of another game.
yeah I want to buy cheap land in a Northern Province and build a house. My family owns some old farm and a few fields in Ontario, I try to help with the horses whenever I'm free. People in the cities here are insane but they're weird and competitive in the countryside, so it's not much better. I want to live far away from Ontario people and just try to memorize my bible and write my music. Then maybe come back, I don't know.
i love these kinds of art. i always imagine a story to go along with them
RIP OP. I hope I helped him at least.
