I'm NOT a Peterson fanboy but I read Maps of Meaning because I read a lot.

The book is a lot like the rest of his contemporary work and his bible lectures etc. It's a lot of multi-disciplinary analysis of symbolism. The overarching theme is basically finding all of the parallels running between things without necessarily going in depth regarding each individual aspect. If you watched his lecture series (the recorded UoT lectures pre-internet fame) on his class of the same name those are very similar.

Honestly my only big takeaway was that there's a non-verified but strongly implied biological aspect to the symbolism that recurs constantly across religions even when those religions aren't directly connected the way christianity and judaism are. It's thought provoking but not mind blowing.

It's not that Peterson is a moron per se, I think he's more just intellectually dishonest. I mean this in the sense that he probably has the capacity to understand the various philosophies he criticises (Marxism, "postmodernism", etc.), but he would much rather paint inaccurate caricatures of these said philosophies to suck the dicks of the halfwit "anti-SJWs" that are his target audience.

I mean, you don't have to have your masters in philosophy to hear what Peterson is saying and tell that it's complete and utter nonsense.
